COURSE MAINTENANCE

I hope everyone had a great Holiday despite our first winter storm of the season With the winter season upon us, we unfortunately find ourselves in the season of frost delays There are many reasons for frost delays; I would like to elaborate on a few things that golfers should know about the importance of frost delays While golfers in the southern parts of the country are able to play golf year-round, they must contend with the inevitable frost delay Ice crystals form inside the plant during a frost The plant becomes brittle and can be damaged by walking or driving over the brittle grass This damage can lead to death or weakening of the grass All though the damage may not be apparent immediately, it can take as long as month to recover from the damage caused by traffic on frost laden turf The Green surfaces are at the greatest risk of frost damage Mostly in part to the fact that they incur the most amount of traffic than any other area on the course A foursome can take approximately more than 300 hundred steps on a green Each one of those steps can lead to damage that can seen for up to a month It should be noted that once the frost has melted, that does not mean the frost delay will be lifted Once the frost has melted, the maintenance crew will still need to setup the course for play It can take up to an hour after the frost has dissipated before the first tee time will be allowed to start It is our intention to get the golfers that are eager to play out on the course as soon as possible; but frost delays are important for the overall health of the turf

I hope that we do not have many frost delays this year; but please keep in mind that it is to protect your course

IN THE KNOW WITH THE PRO

Members,

As we move into the first of the year the first thing, I would like to highlight is the geo fence on the golf carts. Myself and my team have been working constantly to fix all the issues we have been having We are happy to report that you will start seeing some sticks out on the course that will help with denoting where the geo fence is set up The green top will denote where you can enter the fairway and the red top will denote where you need to exit the fairway. If you enter the fairway to early or you exit the fairway to late that is the only time it should stop, you are moving forward I am hoping that this will help make it to where the geo fence is not disrupting the round but just helping protest the golf course

We have a brand-new MGA and brand new player of the year point system associated with our events. You will need to download the golf genius app to access our tournament schedules The following are our GGID codes for Men Events (BHKMGA23), Ladies Events (BHKLC23), and Couples Events (BHKCP23)

Once there you will click on the member portal button, home, then register. You can also access the event registration page by clicking on the links below as they will give you a more detailed description of when registration opens for the events. If you have any questions please let me know Lets have a great New Year as we embark into a new era here at Black Hawk Country Club
