WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE As a club, we accomplished some exciting things in May. We have completed a lot of sod work on both golf courses. Most of the work was done on the South, but we also completed the big project on North #3. The range has also been sodded to help us establish good turf on the entire range. I look forward to the continued progress this year to make our Club better. We have some exciting things coming this June. The most exciting is the addition of our next Head Golf Professional. PGA Professional Graham Brannon will be joining our team on June 1st. Graham has visited a couple of times and is very excited to join our team and help make BlackHorse better. I look forward to getting him acclimated to the team and introducing him to the membership. Be sure to check out Graham’s bio on page seven. Also coming this month are some improvements to the driving range. We will be repositioning our targets to align with our new FLAGD Golf System. This system will provide digital yardages to targets on the range. Also, the old den caddies are on the way out. and will be replaced by crates. We look forward to another great month ahead at the Horse!

MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR Neil Sherrod

I hope everyone enjoyed the first Couples golf event as much as I did! We enjoyed it so much we have already planned another for the end of June. I witnessed several new friendships being formed, which is really what it’s all about. The golf was fun but the socializing afterward was a great time with great company. BlackHorse is blessed to have one of the best memberships around. We have so many different types of members from all walks of life and from all around the world - to all be here at the same place and same time is really cool if you stop and think about it. Some of you have been with us for many years, some for just a few months and some even from the beginning. As the membership has grown, we’ve made many changes along the way. One example is starting in 2019 we started charging an

initiation fee. In the beginning it was only a hundred dollars and now it’s up to fifteen hundred dollars. That number is sure to only go up, most likely sooner than later. Another change that started May 1st of this year was we no longer offer the Executive and Executive Plus membership. Everyone that has those membership types will see no change in their privileges, but it’s not something new members coming in will be able to get. Incoming members will only be able to join the Full or Full Family membership. This is surely to slow our growth which I’m sure most of you will agree is a good thing. We are conscious of tee time availability, and this will help alleviate that problem. We are appreciative of each of you and will continue to strive to offer the best membership experience…For what is sure to be the best group of people I’ve ever had the pleasure to be around.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE David Franks Before we discuss what’s going on around the course, I’d like to offer a friendly reminder to adhere to all cart rules, ropes and stakes on the course. Also, please continue filling divots and repairing ball marks on the greens. We started the month of May off by applying a granular fertilizer to all areas of the course. We have seen its benefits already with growing turf. The fertilizer should slowly continue to aid in turf color and growth for the next 4 – 6 weeks. There has been a lot of work on both courses as of late. RGR Golf Services has been out prepping areas and laying sod on the driving range tees, tee boxes on South #1 and #10, and several other necessary areas on fairways, collars and roughs. They also repaired drainage and sodded North #3 by the green complex. We hope to have them back for more similar sodding/drainage projects this year.

Cypress Tree Company continues to remove unnecessary trees and limbs, concentrating on the South course for the past few visits. They are currently finishing up on South 10/11. As for our staff, while our total number of employees isn’t where it needs to be, our small crew is dedicated to providing the best course conditions possible. Keeping up with mowing is occupying most of our time. We will continue to keep up with detail work as best as we can while continuing to find staff to fill our roster. My email address is dfranks@blackhorsegolfclub.com and feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your membership and continued support of BlackHorse Golf Club.

Pictured above and left is the newly sodded area on North #3 around the green. Please remember not to hit any golf shots from or drive on the new sod. PAGE 4

GOLF PRO SHOP MAY RESULTS & MORE Taylor Mingen As you are aware, we went through a very dry spell in the month of May. When this happens the golf course gets firm and fast which can be good for distance, but it also makes the fairways harder to hit. When conditions are firm and fast, it is important to think about club selection. Ask yourself where you want to play your next shot from. I bet the penalty area is not what you answered with. Firm conditions make the tee shot even more important on difficult courses like ours. Next time you play, put a premium on hitting fairways. You may have more success if you are not always reaching for the driver when it is firm and fast.

PLEASE HELP US WELCOME

Our New Pro! GRAHAM BRANNON, PGA HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL I grew up in my home town of Lake Travis, right outside of Austin, Texas in the rolling hill country. My siblings and I were all introduced to softball and baseball at an early age, but I also took up an interest in golf and music. Throughout my junior years, I spent the majority of my free time practicing and playing one of my big three hobbies, while occasionally mixing in some fishing with my father. After playing varsity baseball and golf throughout high school, I found information on the Professional Golf Management Program at Sam Houston State University and decided to take my true passion for golf and turn it into a lifelong career. When almost finished with school, I chose to complete both my PGA certification and business degree while getting started working full time in the industry at Sweetwater Country Club. Over the next 5 years at Sweetwater, I worked my way from the cart barn to become First Assistant Golf Professional. From there I went on to be an Assistant Golf Professional at Sugar Creek Country Club before elevating to my most recent role as Head Golf Professional of Quail Valley Golf Course. It was also during my time at Sweetwater that I met my beautiful wife and started my family. My wife Leah and I currently live in Sienna Plantation with my two daughters, Riley and Avery. The majority of our free time is spent with our girls attending one of their numerous activities, playing and teaching them music or driving down to Galveston Beach to spend time with my parents at their beach house to occasionally sneak in some fishing with my father and now my girls. My family and I look forward to the future and our chance to be a part of the Blackhorse family. - Graham

FOOD & BEVERAGE THE LATEST FROM ROPER'S GRILL Erin Roper Thank you to everyone that came to BlackHorse to spend Mother's Day with us. Our team debriefed the day and are already working on a great plan to make next year and even more enjoyable experience for you and your guests. The food looked good and we hope you enjoyed it. Thank you to everyone that purchased our member-togo dinners. It is always so tempting to take some home but this month we did not have any extras, which is a good thing. We will plan to have more of those dinners throughout the summer. We will mix up the menu next time to keep your out-to-eat rotation varied. As always, we appreciate your support in Roper's Grill and at the Club. We have brought in many new staff this year already and I appreciate your help making them feel welcomed.
