Summer is just around the corner! Our team has been out in full force mowing the turf, applying fertility and pesticides, and working to hone in the conditions for a great golfing season. The bermuda grass is finally starting to jump with warmer temperatures We have applied fertility and growth regulators to the fairways, tees, and approaches on the courses to continue to push growth and color as well as suppress any seedheads that are trying to push through. This will improve the overall quality of cut on the fairways and will provide a better playing surface
We will be identifying and marking areas for sod work in the coming month. We will be selecting Zoysia grass for some of the areas that struggle with shade. Zoysia is a very dense and hearty warmseason grass that does very well in shaded areas As we approach warmer weather, we will be working with Riparian Pond Management to keep any algae and pond issues under control. We maintain what is known as a riparian buffer around the ponds to intercept any runoff from fertility and pesticides. This will keep excess Nitrogen and Phosphorus from running into the ponds causing the algae to flourish All our fountains on the Plantation course are back up and running. These fountains aid in circulating and aerating the water which in turn, will help provide cleaner, clearer water, keep the mosquito population down, and reduce any sediment from settling at the bottom
James PaigeWe are slated in June to do a light aerintine on the greens. We will be using a small, 1/8” solid tine. These tines will allow for oxygenation of the root zone while causing minimum disruption to playability Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to keep Kingsmill golf great!
Jimmy GabelThe flop shot can be difficult to execute on the golf course, but with a proper setup and technique, this shot can come in handy any time during your round. Here is how to execute the flop shot:
Open your club face to increase the trajectory of the shot When opening the club face you will see the club face point towards the right. (right-handed golfer)
Aim your feet and body slightly left of the target. This will allow you to compensate for the open club face. (Please see the picture above for the proper setup)
Move the ball forward in your stance off the inside of your front foot and put 60% of your weight on the front foot.
Use your arms in the backswing with little body rotation This will allow the club to get steeper on the backswing and create an outside-to-inside downswing.
Turn your belt buckle towards the target on your follow-through.
Thank you for taking the time to read our Golf Tips for June, and we look forward to seeing you out on the course!
Saturday, June 17: U.S. Open Player Draw
Members can register for the Golf Shop Games events through Golf Genius.
Event invitations will be sent two weeks prior to the event date. All events will be tee times on own.
