WELCOME A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER, THE GALLERY GOLF CLUB Jeremy Duda I am pleased to announce Ryan Marshall has joined The Gallery team as Director of Clubhouse maintenance. Ryan is replacing Jay Wilkerson who retired after 25 years of service to the Club. Ryan is in the process of hiring an assistant to help him with all the Club maintenance. In addition, Ryan is in the process of getting bids for some major projects around the Clubhouse and Sports Club. As we move into summer, I wanted to remind Members to stay hydrated and always be aware of your surroundings as snakes are more prevalent. In addition, please remember to fix divots, ball marks, and always rake bunkers. Please leave the course how you would like to find it. I am now in my second year of tenure as General Manager of The Gallery and I would like to thank all the Members as well as the staff for all we have accomplished in the last twelve months. We have made steady improvements to the property and the Member experience. Our goal is to continually improve every aspect of Membership at The Gallery. Please feel free to let me know of any suggestions you have for your Club.

GOLF AT THE GALLERY COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE Noah Gessler It’s beginning to feel like summer with temperatures starting to reach triple digits. We are wrapping up greens aerification and continuing to work on transition. To help with our transition process of removing ryegrass and encouraging bermudagrass growth, there are a few steps. The reduction of mowing heights helps allow the sunlight to reach the bermudagrass. Removing as many of these clippings as possible is important to prevent the accumulation of this material on the soil surface where it can inhibit water infiltration into the soil. Our next steps involve using selective herbicides that will chemically remove the cool season ryegrass and poa without causing injury to the bermudagrass. These products are developed by utilizing the physiological differences in cool season and warm season grasses. Depending on the temperatures, it may take 5-7 days for us to start to see them work.

Core aerification of all areas will also help with transition and is important for relieving compaction. During our greens aerification closure, we aerified all of the tees and we will soon begin the process of aerifying the fairways and roughs. Irrigation management and fertility are also important factors. Summer monsoons and the humidity are the final pieces to the puzzle. Plans are continuing to take shape for the South bunker renovation and the contractors are scheduled to begin in early June. The design plans are being finalized and the architects will be on site throughout the project to work together with the contractors. GOLF AT THE GALLERY GOLF UPDATE Mike Russell, PGA
Dear Members, As the month of May comes to a close and we head into June, I would like to remind everyone that the North Course and Golf Shop will be open seven days a week this summer! The South Course will be closing on May 30th for our bunker renovation project. Golf Shop summer hours will be 7:00am – 4:00pm beginning on Monday, May 30th. For the Members still in town, our upcoming 9 & Wine on June 17th will now be a 9, Wine & Dine starting at 4:30pm. We pushed back the start time to help alleviate some of the heat and to tie in a buffet dinner prepared by Chef John in the Clubhouse following play. The cost is $40 per player, please sign up in ForeTees. We hope to see you there! Our first Junior Camp is scheduled for June 27 – 30. The Junior Camp will be from 9:00am – 3:00pm each day and will include Golf and Tennis lessons, lunch and refreshments along with some fun at the pool! Please sign up for our Junior Camp in ForeTees. The cost is $240 per junior. $280 for nonMember juniors. Please have your children bring their own golf and tennis gear. Wishing you and your families a happy, healthy and fun summer!

DOVE MOUNTAIN UPDATE Matt Nuechterlein
We had a very exciting start to the month of May with the launch of our new MEMBERS MENU to be hosted in our MEMBERS GRILL. I know for both our tenured Members as well as our new Members, this is very exciting and long-awaited news. The Members Menu boasts more Member friendly pricing in the comfort and atmosphere of our private Members only Grill. My personal favorite on the new menu is the Short Rib Melt, give it a try if you have a chance! The Member Grill will be open Wednesday-Sunday from 11:00am-3:00pm for lunch through August. In the Fall, we will be adding dinner hours and a dinner menu along with some other varieties to the menu.
Opening Day of our Members' Grill! In May, we went through the aerification process on all 27 holes of the property. Thank you all for your patience as we work through this incredibly necessary maintenance practice. Nathan and his team have begun mowing out the original width of the fairways and green approaches. This will return the golf course to its original design and allow more tee shots to remain in the fairways. The new mow lines will also make the fairway and hole designs more visible from the tee boxes. Nathan and his team are looking forward to completing some de-vegetation projects this summer, as well as finetuning our maintenance practices for the season. Our Membership continues to grow with many new members and new homeowners joining are community. If you come across someone you have not met, please introduce yourself and welcome them to the Club. We are planning to add even more fun social events to our calendar for this upcoming Fall. We hosted a YAPPY HOUR and a Floral Arranging Class in May that were very well received! The golf team will be working diligently to add some even more fun golf events to our calendar for next season.

Summer has arrived in the desert! As we wrap up another incredible season and head into the dog days of June, I want to thank all of you for your support of our two clubs and staffs, and tell you how much we enjoy your enthusiasm for the game and for our Membership. We finished up our 2021/2022 season with our Beachin' 9 & Wine on May 13th. Members enjoyed wearing some more casual attire and playing a fun and unusual format. The winners of our final event of the year were Scott Balsam, Steve Mooneyham and Bob Unthank with a score of 6 under par 30. Congratulations to those three gentlemen and to all of our champions throughout the season!

As the sweltering heat of the summer begins to set in, please review some of the tips below to help beat the heat and stay safe while enjoying the courses over the next few months: Play early! - Tee times begin at 6:00AM beginning in June Dress Appropriately - lighter colors and looser fitting clothing can help keep you cool on the course Take a cart - Ask about our summer cart program Hydrate! - Drink plenty of water and electrolytes throughout your round Use a towel - Soak a hand towel in ice cold water and place it in your cooler for a quick way to cool down Be Aware - If you feel dizzy at any point, please call the Golf Shop for help or cut your round short. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT This month's Member Spotlight: Brad and Paige Kratovil Both Southern California natives, Brad and Paige met while attending the University of Southern California (USC). They married after graduating and spent the next 26 years moving around with the Navy, spending time in California, Florida, New York, Connecticut, Virginia, Washington and Hawaii. Brad is a former Submariner and Paige a Medical Technologist. Brad retired from the Navy after serving as a Captain and then worked as a VP for a defense contractor, and still works for the same company parttime. They have two grown daughters, Quinn and Dru. Quinn lives outside of Portland with her family, while Dru and her husband are stationed at Davis-Monthan Airforce Base where her husband serves as a pilot for the Air Force. The Kratovils moved to Oro Valley in 2019 to enjoy the good life! Their life motto is to "live life on the EDGE (Eat Drink Golf Everywhere)" so ICON 63 was a perfect fit for them! How true that motto is. We’re thrilled to have the Kratovils as part of our Club family!

FOOD & BEVERAGE RECIPE OF THE MONTH: SIMPLE SUMMER GAZPACHO Executive Chef John Wooters The Gallery Grille Ingredients: 3x 400g cans chopped tomatoes 3 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed 1 cucumber, roughly chopped 1 red pepper, de seeded and roughly chopped 75ml extra virgin olive oil 4tbsp sherry vinegar 1 sprig fresh thyme 10 basil leaves 6 spring onions, trimmed Steps: Pour the cans of tomatoes into a liquidizer. Add the garlic, cucumber and pepper and blend until finely chopped. Add the oil, vinegar and herbs and blend again. Season to taste with salt and black pepper. Chill until ready to serve, then pour into chilled glasses and serve with the trimmed spring onions.
