WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE It has been a great month weather wise for golf, although a bit windy at times. With the difficult conditions, I imagine everyone got to knock off some rust with your short game. Let’s hope May is just as nice! I want to address our cart situation here at the Club. Over the last couple of years, circumstances led to the acceptance of the single rider cart. Our Club, like most across south Texas, has moved back to two players per cart. This is our policy and we will be enforcing it more as we move forward. Please do us a favor and pair up before you get to the first tee. Our golf carts were worked double the amount in recent years and as we get back to managing our fleet hours, we need your help. Again, this is the policy and it will be the expectation that all members and guests follow it. I thank you in advance for your support. As of now, our new fleet is expected to arrive in July, so better days are ahead.

MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP UPDATE Neil Sherrod It's amazing to look back just a few short years ago and think about how far we have come as a Club and specifically membership. While we have continued to grow in the number of members, we have also been able to enhance the membership feel.

participate. We plan to host our first event on May 18th at 5:30 p.m. While we are calling it "Couples", any member can participate as long as you form a co-ed team. It's going to be a lot of fun and I hope you will join us!

This enhanced feel has been a combined effort of everyone at the Club taking a more member-centric approach to our day-to-day operation. Our former Head Pro, Trent Peddy, said it well; "We are a semiprivate club with a country club feel. Hopefully you have been able to participate in the monthly member events, and if you have not, May would be a good time to start.

If you have anyone you think would be a great fit for our Club, please don't hesitate to come chat with me about it. Our membership is in a strong place which allows us to continue introducing new programs like the "Couples". Thank you for the continued support.

On the topic of events, we are planning to launch a Couples Member League. This will be a 9-hole co-ed event with a relaxed and fun feel for all who

One piece of housekeeping information; we have a handful of members every month that have expired credit cards for billing. If this happens to your card, no worries, we will reach out and obtain your new information or you can call and update it with us.

GOLF COURSE COURSE MAINTENANCE David Franks Before we discuss what’s going on around the course, I’d like to offer a friendly reminder to adhere to all cart rules, ropes and stakes on the course. Also, please continue filling divots and repairing ball marks on the greens. We have had Cypress Tree Company out a few days in April. They have been working on the South #10 tee area, removing small to medium size trees and lots of brush. They will continue to work here and have targeted the area behind South #11 green. They removed a few large trees that have caused turf loss on South #11 green due to shade. This will expose the green to more sun throughout the year and better turf coverage on the back quadrant of the green. We also plan to have South #1 and #10 tee boxes sodded.

TREE WORK BEHIND SOUTH #11 GREEN More pre-emergent herbicides are being applied and we should have those completed in the next few days. The entire South course received a granular fertilizer application this week. The results from this granular application, an increase in turf growth and color, should be seen next week and should continue to feed the Bermuda turf for the next six to eight weeks. The North course is scheduled to receive the same application May 4th.

PLEASE REPAIR YOUR BALLMARKS!

GOLF PRO SHOP GOLF RULES, TIP OF THE MONTH & MORE Taylor Mingen Rule of the Month: On the Line (Penalty Areas & OB) As we know, golf rules can sometimes be confusing. One rule that get's mixed up often is knowing when a ball is in a penalty area or out of bounds. When any part of the golf ball is in the penalty area (i.e. touching the line), the ball is deemed to be in the penalty area. For out of bounds, the rule is the opposite. If any part of the ball is in bounds, the ball is deemed to be in bounds. This is the case even if most of the ball is on the line. Next time you find yourself out of position, you can now have confidence in knowing exactly what situation you are in.

Tip of the Month: Putting with good speed Putting is all about the combination of two things: line and speed. Most golfers take a practice stroke or two to help establish a good rhythm for the speed they want to hit the ball. Next time you play, try taking that practice stroke standing behind the ball, facing the hole. This allows you to view the area you have to putt through and get a better view with both eyes on the distance you have to cover. Try this and see if it helps your distance control. We have another Club event coming up this month on Saturday, May 14th. Participants of this event will earn BlackHorse Cup points. This will be open to all members and is our modified alternate shot format. It should be fun, so make sure you find a partner and get signed up. If you have any questions, feel free to let us know.

EXTRA NOTES FOR THE MEMBERSHIP As many of you already know, Trent Peddy, our former Director of Golf has moved to Black Hawk, a sister club in the Escalante family. While we will miss Trent at the Horse, we are excited for him and wish him well in his new endeavors. I wanted to give you an update that our search for our next PGA Head Golf Professional is going well. The most important thing is to make sure we have a great Professional coming in that wants to enhance the membership and move the club forward. Based on conversations already had with candidates, I can confidently tell you our club and golf operation is going to be in good hands. Our current team of assistants are doing a great job and will continue to grow which only bids well for the membership. While there is no guarantee, my hope is to have our new Pro start toward the middle of May, which will be here before we know it. Craig Hicks General Manager
