WELCOME GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Hello Members, "Take a Break at the Lake” What makes Carolina Trace Country Club so special? A devoted membership with unwavering loyalty! Our Professional Staff is striving to make Carolina Trace Country Club a safe environment filled with dynamic social interactions and fun activities. I have personally grown exponentially over the past 5 years serving as your Assistant General Manager and Director of Golf and I am grateful for that experience. My confidence was boosted by the positive members feedback, and I will continue to work and improve myself in those areas. My goals are now to lead our management team towards achieving happy member experiences, nurture the culture of the club and identify areas of improvement or concerns. As a team, we will continuously ensure the development of this Club. Sincerely, Raymond Reyes, GM

WGA PLAYS FIRST MAJOR The first major of the Women’s Golf Association, Trace Classic, was played on April 12 and 14 at the Carolina Trace Country Club. The format was better ball of partners for 36 holes with players stroking at net. Each 2-person team completed playing the first round on the Lake course and the second round on the Creek Course. The winners of the First Flight were Ginny Breuer and Mary Keith and the winners of the Second Fight were Linda Daniels and Carol Philbin. In the First Flight, second place winners were Jackie Cummings and Sally Krey; third place winners were Carol Burgess and Ellen Ollett. In the Second Flight, second place winners were Sara Napier and Susan Thorn; third place winners were Theresa Boyd and Jan McDonald. Congratulations!

ADOPT-A-HOLE PROGRAM UPDATE Our members really show how special they are and how much they value our golf courses by their participation in the Adopt-A-Hole Program. If you are interested in assisting with a hole(s), please consider joining the Adopt-A-Hole program. This program enables our members to take active “ownership” of one or more holes on the golf course with a commitment to providing extra care on your adopted hole whenever the opportunity arises. This will involve taking a sand bucket out and filling divots on the tees and in the fairway; fixing as many ball marks on the green as possible; picking up any trash; and notifying the golf staff (Eric Graveen at egraveen@carolinatracecc.com) If there are any specific maintenance needs or issues that may arise on your hole throughout the season. The golf maintenance staff provides the needed sand. (Maintenance will leave sand on some holes for you to pick up or you may fill your bucket/sand containers at the maintenance building.) PAGE 4

GOLF PRO SHOP GOLF RULES & TIPS Michael Carbaugh

The more volunteers who participate, the less time any one individual has to put in. The program is welcomed by the club and it really contributes to keeping the courses in excellent condition. A realistic goal is to “spruce up” your adopted hole at least once a month but any contribution is welcomed. Volunteers do not necessarily have to be golfers. If you are not a golfer but live on one of the holes and enjoy the beauty of the course you may also want to consider becoming a volunteer. It’s a great way to spend time as a couple, family or group and it is good exercise. To volunteer, please contact Mary Keith at marykeith@charter.net. Thank you.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT- MARY KEITH (LEFT)

Mary Keith, who is a WGA Trace Classic Champion, is one of our Club's biggest advocates, all the way from the Women’s Golf Association to the Communications Committee, Advisory Board, Art Club, and Adopt-aHole program. Carolina Trace Country Club is grateful to have a member like her and her husband Jerry as Golf Members. In 1992 Mrs. Keith and her husband entered Traceway to view the club for the first time and he said, “This is where we're going to retire.” Her favorite menu item is the Trace Burger and her favorite course is the Creek Course.

FOOD & BEVERAGE CHEF UPDATE Dennis Durkin

Carolina Trace Country Club Food & Beverage Department proudly hosts a variety of Member activities and events. Each of these events represent our warm, southern hospitality (even though I am a Yankee) for which this Club has a rich history. Our tradition of weekly changing menus continues utilizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We are also hosting our monthly social events like our popular Sunday Brunch, two for $50 Dinners and our Beer & Burger Night. I am working on our Marathon Bar menus for our Summer Pool schedules. Chefingly yours, Dennis Durkin

WELLNESS HOW MUCH SHOULD THE AVERAGE ADULT EXERCISE EVERY DAY? Answer From Edward R. Laskowski, M.D. For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends these exercise guidelines: Aerobic activity. Get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week, or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. The guidelines suggest that you spread out this exercise during the course of a week. To provide even greater health benefit and to assist with weight loss or maintaining weight loss, at least 300 minutes a week is recommended. But even small amounts of physical activity are helpful. Being active for short periods of time throughout the day can add up to provide health benefit. Strength training. Do strength training exercises for all major muscle groups at least two times a week. Aim to do a single set of each exercise using a weight or resistance level heavy enough to tire your muscles after about 12 to 15 repetitions. Moderate aerobic exercise includes activities such as brisk walking, biking, swimming and mowing the lawn. Vigorous aerobic exercise includes activities such as running, heavy yard work and aerobic dancing. Strength training can include use of weight machines, your own body weight, heavy bags, resistance tubing or resistance paddles in the water, or activities such as rock climbing. As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day. If you want to lose weight, maintain weight loss or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more. Reducing sitting time is important, too. The more hours you sit each day, the higher your risk of metabolic problems. Sitting too much can negatively impact your health and longevity, even if you get the recommended amount of daily physical activity. And some research has found that people who've lost weight may be more likely to keep off the lost weight by sitting less during the day.
