GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

Welcome to May and I hope everyone enjoyed the cooler weather last month. Thank you to everyone who joined us for Easter weekend at the club, it was one of our best-attended holiday events. The course has perked up but we ’ re still looking forward to a little warmer weather to push the turf. We’ve added a few more projects to our annual capital plan and we will communicate the updates over the next few weeks. The front gate project and pool renovation are underway. I hope everyone has a remarkable month, read on, and enjoy the department head updates. We have some great Member events on the calendar for May, please RSVP online or while at the club. This will be my final newsletter update and we look forward to announcing your new GM in the weeks to come. Thank you and it has been a pleasure to serve the Membership at Black Hawk! Spring is among us and what a beautiful time of the year. Working at a country club during the spring is the BEST! It is a time when all our members start coming back up to the course after the long cold months We can’t wait for the longer days, greener grass, and warm weather to welcome you all back to the club

TURF TALK

As we have turned the corner and are getting into May, you will start to see an increase in the cultural activity on the course

We will start getting more aggressive with our cultural programs such as verticutting, brushing, topdressing, spot aerifications, etc Our sod work on the bad spots on greens has been completed and we are now in the establishment or grow in period Now that our greens sod is complete, we will shift our focus to entry/exits to bunkers, some fairway spots, collars, and select tees This will be ongoing throughout the month until complete

Now that the temperatures are more predictable and stable, we will start lightly verticutting tees and fertilizing them accordingly to promote growth and recovery

With the turf truly starting to grow, you will notice that we will be re-defining fairways and tees. The Head Pro and I will be determining where the adjustments need to be made and will start mowing accordingly to create true definition and playability as was intended with the design of the course.

Members, Wow, who can believe we are already into May and the start of the Summer. With Summer approaching, the return of the scented iced towels is on the horizon

The Ladies, Junior, and Senior Club Championship will take place on May 6th and 7th so make sure to mark the date on your calendar and get signed up as soon as possible

Our Couples Twilight is in full swing Our next Couples Twilight is on May 19th and will be 9-hole 2 person shamble with a Mixology Class This event will kick off at 4:30pm.

Finally, to round out the month of May will be the return of the most electrifying golf show in golf entertainment today: “In the know with the Pro”! Keep an eye out for another episode of our show.

You will start seeing some new faces in May as our Summer employees come on board. They are excited to be a part of the Black Hawk Team and are dedicated to making our summer Remarkable.

May will also bring some big events at the Club. Get out your sombrero for our Cinco de Mayo Party on the Patio with live music, food and drink specials. We will be celebrating Mom on Sunday the 14th with Brunch. Finally, our Oasis Pool Bar and Grill will be opening on May 27th, with an updated food and cocktail menu. The Oasis will also be throwing pool parties during the summer starting with the Memorial Day Cookout on May 29th.
