MESSAGE FROM THE PRO SHOP
Billy Van Arsdale
The overseeded putting surfaces are open! We need to put our “best foot” forward with the ball mark repairs. To get the grass to come in fully David had to water the surfaces a lot more than normal so they are very soft and make a pitch mark even with a short pitch or chip shot. David will need to continue to water the greens through the fall more than usual due to the overseed. The U.S.G.A. has encouraged all golfers to make a personal resolution. I have attached a link that you can copy and paste into your browser and read the resolution statement. It has some very good information about the proper pitch mark repair method. We all need to buy into this. The more we all take care of the greens now the better putting surfaces we play on this winter! Repairing your ball mark is standard etiquette.

FROM THE MEN’S GOLF LEAGUE
In spite of the temporary greens on our course, the MGA has been playing a number of games conducive to accommodating the situation; namely, scrambles, and short game formats. Tournament Directors Jim Davis and Eli Smith have been doing a great job of scheduling games that meet the need of the temporary greens.
As the MGA enters the month of November, it is preparing for the Annual Holiday Classic Tournament, where the playing field is divided into two teams created through a Captains’ draft. The event covers Wednesdays, December 11 and 18. The event is similar to a Ryder Cup format in which the winning team is the team that collects the largest number of points during the two-week tournament. The MGA Annual Holiday Luncheon will be held immediately following the final round on December 18th .
The Co-Captains for each team have the main responsibility of drafting their team from the sign-ups of MGA members willing to play in the two-week event. The sign-up period for MGA members begins November 23rd in the Pro Shop. The two-week tournament will occur on our normal league days consisting of a front nine 2man Scramble-Match Play and a back nine 2-man Pinehurst Alternate Shot-Match Play on December 11th. The following week (December 18th), a 2-man team, Four Ball Net Match Play (Best Ball) will conclude the competition.
Scoring for the event will be based on points being assigned to winning matches for both days with the winning team determined from the total points after the two-week period. The month of October the MGA Spotlight Golfer was Gene Gilmour. His write up and photo can be enjoyed on the MGA’s award winning website www.ghmga.com. The November Spotlight Golfer is Mark Morache.
So excitement abounds for the MGA golf experience, more to follow next month. Until next then, “see you from the bunker”. ~ Mike Tebbano, MGA Communications.
FROM THE LADIES 9 HOLE GOLF LEAGUE
October has had it’s challenges with unusual weather that included hurricane Milton’s fury followed by gorgeous sunny, dry days in the upper 70’s
Our egos have been stroked by lower scores as we play on the temporary greens We have also been spoiled by the speed of play with the automatic 1 or 2 putts circles We’ve adjusted our putting with some heft to get our ball to reach the flag Caution: this too shall pass, and on the regular greens we’ll slamming our putts into the next zip code!
This season the Ladies Golf League Grand Haven was happy to welcome Leslie Guignet and Andrea Byrne to our league
We look forward to our annual Ghosts & Goblins tournament Our husbands and significant others are invited to participate in our ghoulish fun It promises to be a memorable event
