TURF TALK

w improvement project behind 9 green was a tremendous success. What was once a d overgrown forest is now a much cleaner and maintainable backdrop to this beautiful green surround. The remaining trees will now reach full potential and airflow will be much improved during the summer months when winds prevail out of the South/Southwest in GA. We look forward to more projects like this throughout the course over the next several months as time allows this winter!

We recently sodded our Nursery Green in the middle of #10 and the Driving Range. This will give us the ability to make rapid repairs to putting greens when needed. So far, the new sod is doing great and has been mowed several times. It will soon be ready for harvest and then we can make necessary repairs to wildlife damage on 2 green and any other areas needed. Next time you play feel free to swing by the left side of #10 (even with the start of the fairway on the left side of the rough) to see our new Nursery green!

Winter Annuals are in full bloom and have been planted at various locations throughout the club We hope everyone enjoys the addition of many new beds that haven’t been planted during the last several years It has definitely added a much needed touch of color to some high traffic areas frequented by members and guests alike Huge Shout Out to River Club M b L Cl k d th t t G d C th

FEATURED RECIPIE

Kale & Persimmon Salad with Pecan Vinaigrette

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup pecan halves

2/3 cup apple cider vinegar

1 1/2 teaspoon honey

Kosher salt

1 medium shallot, thinly sliced

1 1/2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

Freshly ground black pepper

1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil

10 ounces baby kale (about 16 cups)

3 ripe Fuyu persimmons, peeled and

cut into thin wedges

1/2 cup crumbled Gorgonzola

YIELD: 8 TO 10 SERVINGS

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the pecans out on a baking sheet and bake, tossing once, until very golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool and very finely chop.

2. Meanwhile, whisk together 1/3 cup vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon honey and a large pinch of salt in a small bowl. Add the shallots and let sit at room temperature, tossing occasionally, until the shallots turn bright pink and are slightly pickled, about 10 minutes. Remove the shallots and set aside (discard the liquid).

3. Whisk together the remaining 1/3 cup vinegar, Dijon mustard, remaining 1 teaspoon honey, 1/2 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of black pepper in a medium bowl. Slowly drizzle in the oil, whisking constantly, until the mixture is blended. Stir in the toasted pecans.

4. Combine the kale, pickled shallots, persimmons and Gorgonzola in a large bowl. Add the vinaigrette and toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

WELLNESS

FITNESS UPDATE

Dear Members,

With Halloween already passed (how much candy did you eat?), thanksgiving and the holidays just around the corner we are all busy gearing up for the “busy” time of year. Workouts tend to get pushed aside, other things take precedent and we forget to take care of ourselves. Inevitably, most people don’t really give much thought to being healthy again and getting back on track until January 1st Which is usually after most of the damage has been done making it that much harder to get back on track

One simple solution is to sign up with a River Club trainer now and with weekly scheduled workouts you will be held accountable and power your way though the next few months and start the new year already in a great place If you prefer group exercise classes to personal training we have a full slate of great classes for your to attend and keep you motivated

Either way, both of the above options will give you a jump on the busy months ahead and doing it now will give you a major health advantage over those who choose not to
