Well, Mother Nature didn’t let go of May without a little kicking and screaming. Between the second half of April and the first half of May, we certainly had our share of weather challenges.
As you probably noticed, the projects scheduled in May were greatly impacted. Some were simply delayed while others had to be pushed back going into June. Some of the projects impacted were the cart path repairs and the bridge renovation on hole #7.

Upcoming projects to look forward to this month are the completion of the installation of Sox erosion control/lake bank restoration on holes #17 and #5. A new flagpole monument with landscaping by the clubhouse, along with a slew of landscape enhancements along the entrance road up to and including miscellaneous areas around the clubhouse grounds and practice areas. Announcements will be made as each project approaches and get scheduled.
As for the course, June represents the magic 150 (temperature + humidity) number in the Agronomy world. Translation: we are officially in growing season, and it is truly game on. Our cultural programs are in full swing, our nutritional and PGR programs are continuing throughout the month and all of the growing season, and our detail programs are full steam ahead. We have recently added staffing to our Agronomy team and look to add several more individuals to help us consistently maintain the course at the highest level possible. Exciting times!
Lastly, I’d like to take a moment to say thank you to all the members that take time out of your schedules to reach out with questions, concerns, and observations. Although sometimes the tone of the conversation may be a little uncomfortable, I genuinely welcome and encourage all interaction. It is not only a blessing, but a privilege to be a part of the Escalante and Shadow Hawk family, and I’m very excited about what the future holds for all of us.
On behalf of myself and our Agronomy team, we thank you for your patience and continued support.
GOLF UPDATE
Justin Engel

As we approach summertime the golf staff would like to remind our membership of some helpful tips during the heat. The first is to drink plenty of water while playing. On average your body will lose around 64 ounces of water during a round. To help combat dehydration you should drink plenty of fluids the day before a round. Once your body has become dehydrated you will be able to catch up during your round of golf.
With summertime comes pop-up showers that can produce a lot of lighting. We recently installed the Perry Weather system to help with lighting detection. It will pick up a lightning strike within 5 miles of the property and requires no strikes within that radius for a total of 30 minutes before issuing the all-clear signal. The system will sound the alarm with one long siren that can be heard when there is lightning in the area. Three short sirens will be used when the storm has passed and will signal that we are all clear and safe to continue to play. You may also access our portal of the Perry Weather system using the Shadow Hawk app. Here you can find updates on the amount of rain received and how long it will be before the all-clear is given among other meteorological information.
Event Results
Couples 1-2-3 Best Ball
We would like to congratulate the team of Mr and Mrs Anderson and Mr and Mrs Schmitt on winning the Couples 1-2-3 best ball contested on May 6th Thank you to all who participated in the event and if you see them, please wish them congratulations on their fine play!
Pecan Shaker
Our 2nd annual Member-Member was plagued by the weather Mother Nature did not cooperate fully on the second day of the event, but we were able to finish just before dark! The 2023 Pecan Shaker shootout winners go to the team of Mike Bass and Lasse Petterson who defeated the team of Rob Macchi and Erik Kingshill in the shootout The final matchup required two extra holes to determine a winner! It was an exciting event, and we want to thank everyone who participated in it but not just for playing but for being willing to grind out a day of weather that did not want to cooperate We would also like to recognize the flight winners
1st Flight – Rob Macchi and Erik Kingshill
2nd Flight – Jim Hearn and Andy Rowe
3rd Flight – Mike Bass and Lasse Petterson
4th Flight – Lance McIntyre and Robert Colmenares
