WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
Max Gooding April Sharp Wendy TheraultTENNIS
At any level of the game, the goal is to keep balls out of the net. For newer players, this can often be more challenging on the backhand side To keep more backhands in the court rather than in the net, think “air the armpits " (or as Phil would say, “ATA”)
![](https://assets.isu.pub/document-structure/220922130336-1287d4a723be6a5803c05192942507cf/v1/f91f57575af09a35c662c7c49b3f6d6a.jpeg)

When you hit a two handed backhand, finish with both armpits “aired” and your elbow of your non dominant arm pointing across the net. For a right hander, this is your left elbow. If you're a left hander, this will be your right elbow
By using this tip, it will force you to lengthen the follow through and, as a result, give you more height and allow you to clear the net with a comfortable margin.
Phil begins his swing a little higher than the ball for a slice backhand return
Note his arms are extended away from his body and will continue this path through the finish of the stroke
“ATA” TO IMPROVE YOUR BACKHAND! Myke Loomis Landauer

HEART HEALTH
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)Trusted Source, heart disease is the leading cause of death for adults in the United States.
The American Heart Association (AHA)Trusted Source states that almost half of U.S. adults live with some form of cardiovascular disease
High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a growing concern in the U S The condition can lead to a heart attack, heart failure, and a stroke.
It may be possible to prevent up to 80% of premature heart disease and stroke diagnoses with lifestyle changes, such as increasing physical activity and healthful eating
The foods people eat can reduce their blood pressure and help keep their hearts healthy. The DASH diet, or the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet, includes plenty of heart healthy foods.
The program recommends Trusted Source:
eating plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains choosing fat free or low fat dairy products, fish, poultry, beans, nuts, and vegetable oils limiting saturated and trans fat intake, such as fatty meats and full fat dairy products limiting drinks and foods that contain added sugars

restricting sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams per day ideally 1,500 mg daily and increasing consumption of potassium, magnesium, and calcium
High fiber foods are also crucial for keeping the heart healthy
The AHA Trusted Source states that dietary fiber helps improve blood cholesterol and lowers the risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, and type 2 diabetes.
The medical community has long recognized the link between trans fats and heart related illnesses, such as coronary heart disease Limiting certain types of fats can also improve heart health. For instance, eliminating trans fats reduces the levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. This type of cholesterol causes plaque to collect within the arteries, increasing the risk of a heart attack and stroke
Reducing blood pressure can also promote heart health. Most adults may achieve this by limiting their salt intake to no more than 1,500 mg Trusted Source per day.
Food manufacturers add salt to many processed and fast foods, and a person who wishes to lower their blood pressure should avoid these products
