El Reto del turismo frente a la oferta hotelera

Tourism challenges faced by hotels

Jaime Campuzano, prominente figura del turismo panameño, Gerente del Hotel El Panamá, y Presidente del Consejo Nacional de Turismo, señala que del 2008 al 2013 la planta hotelera ha crecido casi en un 100% debido al trabajo en conjunto del gobierno y el sector privado.

“Se ha incentivado al sector, y esto ha permitido que todos los indicadores turísticos, como la inversión, la llegada de visitantes, el gasto turístico, y la economía, crezcan.”

Jaime Campuzano, a prominent figure in the Panamanian tourism industry, El Panama Hotel Manager, and Chairman of the National Tourism Council, notes that from 2008 to 2013, the hotel industry has grown almost 100% due to joint efforts by the government and the private sector. “It has encouraged the sector, and thus has allowed growth in tourism indicators, investments, visitor arrivals, tourist spending and the economy.”

Este empresario, nacido en Bogotá, tiene 25 años de trabajar en el turismo panameño. Cuenta que todas sus inversiones están en este país. Es también el nuevo Presidente de la Cámara de Turismo, una entidad que agrupa a las más importantes asociaciones turísticas, entre ellas a la Asociación de Hoteles, de Agencias de Viajes, Restaurantes, Casinos, Operadores de Turismo y otras.

This businessman, born in Bogotá, has 25 years of working in the Panamanian tourism industry. He states that all of his investments are in this country. He is also the new president of the Chamber of Tourism (CAMTUR), an entity that brings together the most important tourist associations including the Association of Hotels, Travel Agents, Restaurants, Casinos, Tour Operators and others.

Campuzano señala que el turismo panameño tiene un reto, y es el de crecer a la velocidad que crece la planta hotelera. “Por lo pronto se han tomado medidas para incentivar la hotelería y la actividad turística en el interior del país. Y también se diseñan estrategias para elevar la ocupación hotelera en la ciudad.”

Estrategias para el desarrollo del turismo Campuzano menciona que el país tiene las herramientas necesarias para lograr el desarrollo del turismo.

“El Destination Marketing Organization, DMO, por ahora un departamento de la ATP, está resultando muy efectivo para atraer convenciones al país.

El nuevo Centro de Convenciones que se construye en Amador nos hará más fuertes en los mercados de “convenciones mundiales”. Además, la campaña ‘Stop Over’, que permitirá a millones de pasajeros en tránsito por el Aeropuerto de Tocúmen visitar Panamá, elevará los índices turísticos.

The new convention center being built in Amador will make us stronger in “global conventions” markets. Additionally, the ‘Stop Over’ campaign will allow tourism numbers to rise by allowing the millions of passengers traveling through the Tocumen Airport to visit Panama.

El nuevo Presidente de CAMTUR se muestra positivo ante el futuro del turismo, y termina resumiendo: “sin duda, es una actividad que beneficia a todos”.

LIZZ WRIGHT www.lizzwright.net Cantante y compositora estadounidense de jazz y R&B nacida en enero de 1980.

Su primer álbum, Salt, fue lanzado en la primavera de 2003 y alcanzó el número dos en el “Billboard Top Contemporary Jazz chart” en 2004. Su siguiente lanzamiento no fue un seguimiento de su debut, pero este disco mantiene la mezcla de jazz y pop. Picaña o Punta de Palomilla entera (aprox 3 lbs) 5 dientes ajo rebanado 2 ramas de romero entero Aceite de Oliva Sal Gruesa Pimienta al gusto

Procedimiento:

1. Un día antes, sazonar la Picaña o Punta de Palomilla entera, agregar aceite de oliva, ajo, pimienta y romero, y colocarlo en una bolsa hermética o en la bandeja donde se sazonó cubriéndolo con papel plástico y refrigerar.

Procedimiento: 1. En un tazón, agregar todos los ingredientes y mezclar bien. Realizar la salsa fresca el día antes para que tome mejor sabor. Luego de rebanar la carne, agregar la salsa fresca arriba.

Ensalada de Berro, Queso Nacional y vinagreta de limón Ingredientes: 1 manojo de Berro 1/4 tz de Queso Nacional 3 unidades de Jugo de limón Aceite de Oliva Sal y pimienta al gusto

Procedimiento: 1. Importante: en un tazón mezclar agua y sal, colocar el berro por unos minutos para limpiarlo. Luego secarlo bien para evitar que tenga agua.

2. En un tazón agregar el jugo de limón, sal y pimienta al gusto. Poco a poco agregar el aceite de oliva batiéndolo constantemente hasta lograr una emulsión (que todo esté bien mezclado).

3. Desmenuzar en trozos el queso nacional prensado y rebosarlo en la vinagreta.

Mezclar el berro con el queso rebosado y verter por encima la vinagreta preparada.

Place fresh salsa over sliced meat.

Watercress Salad with National White Cheese and Lemon Vinaigrette Ingredients: 1 handful Watercress 1/4 cup National White cheese 3 lemon halves Lemon juice Extra Virgin Olive Oil Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure: 1. Important: clean watercress by placing in a large bowl with water and salt. After, dry well to avoid excess water.

2. In a bowl add the lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste and slowly add the olive oil whisking constantly until emulsified (mixed well).

3. Crumble the national white cheese into pieces and sprinkle with vinaigrette over the watercress.

Las hemorroides son dilataciones de los plexos venosos hemorroidales superior e inferior, que están en el conducto anal y últimos centímetros del recto. Popularmente también se les conoce como almorranas.

Es uno de los procedimientos más comunes en hombres y mujeres, ya que alrededor de un 40% de la población desarrolla la enfermedad después de la 3era y 4ta década de vida, y su frecuencia aumenta con la edad.

A menudo, las inflamaciones de las hemorroides son consecuencia del esfuerzo para evacuar, aunque pueden ser causadas por factores tales como el embarazo, el estreñimiento crónico, la diarrea y herencia. También pueden ser causantes una dieta baja en fibra, envejecimiento, y factores ocupacionales, como estar de pie o sentado por mucho tiempo seguido.

Las molestias más comunes que causan las hemorroides son prurito, comezón, dolor, sensación de ardor, manchado de ropa interior y sensación de salida de protuberancia del área rectal. El tratamiento médico no quirúrgico contempla una serie de sugerencias en cuanto a los hábitos de higiene, corregir el estreñimiento añadiendo fibra a la dieta, frutas, verduras, y abundantes líquidos; evitar el consumo de grasas, picantes y alcohol. Observe su dieta y hábitos, y consulte a su médico si tiene molestias. De ser necesario, un cirujano es la persona idónea para realizar el procedimiento quirúrgico.

Inventario de la Flora y Fauna del Río Changuinola Inventory of Changuinola River Flora and Fauna

Entre diciembre 2006 y febrero 2008 se llevó a cabo un inventario de la diversidad biológica del Río Changuinola. An inventory of the biodiversity of the Changuinola River was conducted between December 2006 and February 2008.

Con el objetivo de respetar el medio ambiente en la construcción de 2 hidroeléctricas en el río Changuinola, AES Changuinola S.A, contrató a la empresa MWH para realizar un inventario biológico del área. MWH convocó una institución científica y académica de alto nivel, El Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). Para realizar el estudio, los científicos asociados a esta institución fueron quienes inventariaron la flora terrestre, la fauna terrestre y la fauna biológica.

Los datos de esta investigación indicaron que el bosque de Changuinola es un ecosistema en buenas condiciones estructurales. Además se pudo determinar que la región biogeográfica de Bocas del Toro es muy particular e incluye muchas especies de Mesoamérica y América del Sur, las cuales convergen en este espacio.

El estudio, que cubrió menos del 4% de la cuenca del río Changuinola y mucho menos del 1% de todos los bosques de Bocas del toro, tuvo descubrimientos excepcionales: se encontraron 4 especies de epífitas, que probablemente son nuevas para la ciencia, 2 especies de anfibios y una especie no identificada de serpiente. Adicionalmente, se encontraron 3 especies de árboles y 27 especies de epífitas que no se habían documentado en la flora de Panamá.

Además se reconocieron varias especies que se pensaban endémicas de Costa Rica.

Esta importante contribución a la ciencia, sirve como una plataforma para futuros estudios sobre la fauna terrestre en la provincia de Bocas del Toro y el Corredor Biológico Mesoaméricano.

AES Changuinola , SA y MWH esperan que la información recogida en este inventario, único en la región, se utilice para establecer criterios para una mejor toma de decisiones en relación con el uso y explotación de los recursos naturales en esta zona. En ese sentido, entendemos que los datos serán de utilidad para los responsables del diseño de medidas de mitigación para los proyectos hidroeléctricos que se construirán en esta zona.

In order to respect the environment during the construction of 2 hydroelectric plants on the Changuinola River, AES Changuinola SA, hired MWH to conduct a biological inventory of the area. MWH convened a scientific and high-level academic institution: The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). For this study, scientists associated with this institution inventoried terrestrial flora, terrestrial fauna and biological fauna.

Data from this study indicated that the Changuinola forest is a structurally sound ecosystem. This conclusion was reached due to the presence of large carnivorous mammals that require large areas to feed and roam.

It was also determined that the bio-geographic Bocas del Toro Region is very unique and includes many species from Middle and South America, which converge in this space.

The study, which covered less than 4% of the Changuinola River and less than 1% of all forests in Bocas del Toro, resulted in exceptional discoveries: 4 species of epiphytes, which are probably new to science, 2 species of amphibians and an unidentified species of snake. Additionally, 3 species of trees and 27 species of epiphytes were found that were not reported in the flora of Panama. In addition, several species were recognized that were previously thought to be endemic to Costa Rica.

This important contribution to science serves as a platform for future studies on the terrestrial fauna in the Bocas del Toro Province and of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor.

AES Changuinola SA and MWH hope that the information collected in this regionally unique inventory can help to establish criteria for better decision-making in relation to the use and exploitation of natural resources in this area. In this regard, we understand that the data will be useful for those responsible for the design of mitigation measures for hydropower projects to be built in this area.

on la lista de artistas invitados finalmente completa, la octava edición del “Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival” es ya una realidad. El Festival, a celebrarse en el precioso pueblo montañoso de Boquete, es organizado por un pequeño grupo de voluntarios, quienes se han encargado de la búsqueda de fondos y patrocinadores, así como del plan de marketing y merchandising, además de toda la logística implicada para llevar adelante el Festival.

El Festival dura cuatro días enteros, iniciando el 13 de febrero y culminando el día 16 (2014). El primer día, jueves al medio día, un desfile a lo “Mardi Gras” da inicio a la festividad; el mismo atraviesa el pueblo y culmina en el histórico Hotel Panamonte, lugar donde tendrá lugar la “Jazz-in-the-Garden Party” (Fiesta Jazz -en el Jardín-).

With the performing artists’ lineup complete, planning for the 8th Annual Boquete Jazz and Blues Festival in the beautiful mountain town of Boquete, Panama is well underway.

A small planning committee of volunteers has been busy with a series of fund raisers, sponsorship searches, marketing plans, merchandising and all the complex logistics that make an all-volunteer-run festival come alive.

The festival takes place over four days, Feb. 13-16, 2014. A traditional Mardis Gras type parade through downtown Boquete at noon on Thursday kicks off the event that culminates at the historic Panamonte Inn and Spa, the site of the Jazz-in-the-Garden Party.
