T
here’s a new ‘hood nestled between beauteous mountains and deep valleys, known as Al Amerat Heights. The place is known for its peaceful location in the western part of Al Amerat, which is near the mountain road of Aqabat Bousher, about 28 kilometres from Muscat International Airport. The 'Heights' is still considered a newbie in the world of Muscat properties, and the rapidly developing area features beautifully designed contemporary villas set on ample lots, that come together to offer
a more modern suburban atmosphere than other areas of Al Amerat. There are a number of new residential properties including villas and serviced apartments for rent and for purchase (for Omani nationals). Villas sell for around OMR60,000 and apartments range between OMR25,000 and OMR30,000. Rentals are incredibly affordable, ranging OMR200-350. here is simply no better way to bring warmth and life into both modern and traditional homes than reclaimed wood. The furniture designers at Marina Home Interiors have come up with beautiful, innovative creations that combine clean, minimalist modern lines with the warm, rustic vibe of antique or re-claimed wood. The addition of any single reclaimed wood designer piece can transform a space, bringing serenity and natural balance to a room, whether adding a single table or changing an entire bedroom set. You can't go wrong with wood, especially consid-
ering its durability and long-life. We spoke to Kazim Khan of Marina Home Interiors about the types of re-claimed woods they use, and why. A FURNITURE WOOD PRIMER Old Pine This is an old reclaimed wood usually imported from China. It’s collected and re-designed without any surface modifications. We like to leave it natural and raw, for a long-lasting, beautiful piece of furniture. It looks and feels rustic, and is available in light and dark shades.
Oak Wood This is a natural grey wood known for having a rustic surface with open wide grains that are just fascinating. Its unique colour adds a contemporary yet classic element to a home. Sheesham Wood Also known as rosewood, this is a solid honey-brown coloured wood from India that features wide-spread grains. It is popular choice due to its easy-to-clean, fine finish, and more affordable price tag. Sheesham is considered a sustainable and durable choice. You can pair these sleek, woody creations with classic and contemporary furniture in any room. Acacia Wood Acacia wood is a solid (harder than sheesham) and fragrant wood known for having a smooth surface with narrower grains, and typically comes in dark finishes It has excellent longevity, and is a sustainable choice. If you’re a fan of more contemporary settings, then this is generally a good choice, though you can sometimes find reclaimed Acacia furniture whose surfaces are much more rustic. Teakwood Teakwood is a reclaimed wood imported from Indonesia. It’s known for being the best hard wood there is in terms of quality, as well as durability against weathering. It comes in light shades and it fits in easily with modern and classic decor. Marina’s “Pure Collection” is comprised of carefully selected planks of teakwood put together creatively to create beautiful, rugged, mosaic patterns. Boat Wood This is one of the most distinctive woods we use, made up of the wood of abandoned boats. The patch marks, many cracks, and thick nails give it a totally unique look, and can lend a natural, oceanic feel to a home. Wood Care Tips: • For fine finish woods, use beeswax to clean and polish the smooth surface. If there’s a crack in your piece of furniture, it can be filled with wood fillers followed by re-polishing. • For natural finish woods, there’s no need for substance-based cleaning, just air blow it or use a hover or a brush to clean the dust and other stuff off. In case of liquid spill, soak it with a towel, and then clean it off without adding water.
