The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, in coordination with the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, closed the livestock farm as it has been quarantined. Precautionary measures have been taken to protect people in the area, said Badr Al Barashdi, Deputy Director of Heath Affairs Directorate in Ibra Municipality. “The expat who died was a butcher in one of the livestock farms, owned by his farther, and died as a result of the CrimeanCongo haemorrhagic fever. Oman has registered a steep rise in workplace related deaths during summer in recent times

HASAN SHABAN AL LAWATI

MORNING MINUTE

MUSCAT: As temperatures rise, Oman is bracing itself for a spike in work-related injuries due to the sweltering heat, leading health and safety experts call on employers to strictly follow official safety guidelines this year to

save lives and prevent casualties. An official at the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) said most work injuries are reported during summer, especially cases of workers falling off high floors at construction sites or having their fingers cut due to unsafe use of drilling equipment.

According to the latest figures, the number of people who died in workplace incidents in Oman increased by 60 per cent in the last couple of years. Of the 3,163 death pension cases recorded by the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI) in 2015, 386 cases were of people who had died at the workplace, compared to 521 in 2014. “Since some workers are exposed to direct sunlight, they might suffer a sunstroke while being in a dangerous location, which can eventually lead to death,” the PACDA official said.>A6

MUSCAT: After Thailand, Indonesia, and the Caribbean, Oman will be a fourth home to the Ritz Carlton Reserve, which the giant hotel company is planning for, according to Bob Kharazmi, Global Officer, Worldwide Operations of the company (pictured). In an exclusive interview with the Times of Oman, Kharazmi revealed plans about building up of this Reserve, plans for which are in the discussion phase with the ministry of tourism. “In terms of growth, we have a brand extension, and we call that a ‘Reserve’- it’s a very exclusive but small property, with about 100 rooms, and the service goes around the guest who want to have privacy and connect themselves to rich culture of the place. Reserves don’t have high towers, but villas with their own private pools, in a remote environment,” he said. Currently there are only three other Ritz Carlton Reserves in the world which are located in ex-

clusive locations in Bali, Indonesia, Phulay Bay in Thailand and on Dorado beach in the Caribbean. If the Reserve in Oman opens, it will be the fourth in the world. “I strongly believe that we can have a Reserve in one of the mountains in Muscat, it’s beautiful, where you have the sea and the beautiful mountains, if we can come up with a plan where we can build a fort, so the reserve will look like a fort on the top of a mountain, that will be absolutely something unique, not only for Muscat, but speaking globally, people will really enjoy seeing the forts, which is what this place is all about.” >A6

MUSCAT: When Ahmad Al Hadrami took the picture of a camel herdsman in his tribal village of Nakhal, he had little idea that the effort will win him laurels at the just concluded international photography world cup. “I can’t describe my feelings of happiness,” the school boy said. When the news came on Wednesday evening, the entire village erupted in happiness since its boy had bagged the honorary award at the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) World Cup in Germany. Participating for the first time ever, the young photographer com-

peted with youngsters from many countries. Al Hadrami told the Times of Oman that he only started his career as a photographer in August 2015. After winning the prestigious award, he is planning to establish a small business where he can make some profit out of his talent.

Asked about his favourite click, the young village boy said a picture of two old men looking at an empty space is the best photo he has taken so far. Ahmed identifies himself as a portrait photographer. “I love taking images of people’s faces to reflect their emotions and

feelings,” he said. The Oman News agency reported on Wednesday that Oman Photographic Society of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science at the Diwan of Royal Court had won two World Cups in Photography in 38th FIAP Youth Print Biennial 2016. >A6
