and the police launched a rescue operation, initially finding eight of the party. However, four were missing, including Bushra. Late on Saturday evening, three more walkers were rescued by the police but Bushra was still missing. “The rescuers with the helicopter failed to find her in the

first two attempts. Bushra was finally found dead at the base of the Samini Mountain near Hatta Border on Sunday in their third attempt,” Sohaib added. According to the official sources, Bushra, a prolific trekker who had been to the base camps of Mount Everest, K2 and scaled

Kilimanjaro in Africa, died due to dehydration. While responding to a query on whether Bushra had left any message before breathing her last, her brother said they are still not in possession of her belongings. “So we do not know. I guess signals are not available in the Samini Mountain so mobile phone contact is being ruled out. We will come to know of other possibilities only after we receive her belongings from the authorities concerned,” Sohaib added. Bushra was also involved in the London Olympics of 2012, where she worked as the manager of Aquatic Centre. Her brother said the death of Bushra is a big tragedy that would be felt by friends and family across the world, all of whom are in deep mourning, particularly those in the United Kingdom, the UAE and Pakistan. “Our whole family, including her six sisters, is completely heartbroken. I shared a very special bond with her as she was elder to me. “We cannot come to terms with the fact that she is no more with us,” added her brother. >A6

MUSCAT: Drivers of private vehicles earning extra cash by ferrying people to their workplaces will be penalised, said police officials. Punishable offence “Transporting people regularly in private vehicles is a punishable offence. However, carpooling is

not,” said a senior official from the Royal Oman Police (ROP). Recently, the Times of Oman learnt that some drivers were caught and penalised by the police in different areas of Muscat. “I was stopped by the police while travelling along with friends. The police suspected that I was transporting people. However, when we clarified that we were just returning together from a friend’s house, we were allowed

to go,” an Indian businessman told the Times of Oman. In another case, the police fined a private taxi driver for transporting people. In and around Muscat, some people, especially expatriates, hire private vehicles to visit their workplaces. “In the morning, we see many private vehicles transporting people to their workplaces,” said John Paul, a resident in Ruwi CBD area. >A6
