fahadnews@timesofoman.com MUSCAT: Expatriates working in managerial positions in all the sectors should be replaced with Omanis, members of the Majlis Al Shura have urged. Raising the issue of Omanisation at a session on Sunday, where Minister of Manpower Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri addressed Majlis Al Shura, members said, “Nationals should replace expatriates in all managerial and leadership roles and positions.” They also said Omanis with same qualification and educa-
tional certificates as expatriates should receive the same wages and benefits as they do. Majlis Al Shura members urged the minister to set up a committee that would offer a clear picture on Omanisation and provide statistics concerning different specialities and jobs. Tawfiq Al Lawati, member of the Majlis Al Shura, said, “Members raised the issue of Omanisation at managerial positions and urged the minister to work towards a policy for reserving top posts for Omanis.” As of March 2015, there are 202,136 Omanis working in the private sector, of whom 17,611 receive a salary from OMR1,000 to OMR2,000 and 6,705 receive a salary of more than OMR2,000. Nearly 1,594,464 expats work in the private sector. An expert on manpower issues who didn’t want to be named said, “The suggestion by the members is not a studied move. Omanis are still not ready to be replaced at top managerial posts. How can we replace all top positions with Omanis when they may not have the experience or qualifications?” >A7
