Victims of human trafficking should contact authorities for their protection, says a top Omani official

hassan@timesofoman.com MUSCAT: Demanding money in return for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is “exploitation” and could be a form of human trafficking, the country’s Assistant Attorney General has warned. Nasser Al Riyami, Assistant Attorney General and
a member of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, (NCCHT) said victims of exploitation and human trafficking in Oman should approach the authorities. Al Riyami, speaking exclusively to Times of Oman, said money should not change hands for a NOC in the Sultanate. He added: “This is an exploitation

case and could be constituted a crime of human trafficking.” He told Times of Oman the NCCHT protects and supports victims of such acts with a multilingual
hotline – 80077444 - and that a dedicated committee works to tackle any cases brought to light. MUSCAT: Oman’s new dairy farm could generate not just employment for Omanis, but selfsufficiency in food for the nation, as well. Plans are underway to set up a new dairy farm in Buraimi, as per the Sultanate’s new Tanfeedh initiative to revitalise and diversify the nation’s economy. Named the Al Mazoon farms, this integrated dairy farm will initially have 4,000 cows and slowly expand to 25,000 animals over a period of 10 years. “This farm is supposed to produce 89 million litres of milk by 2020, and 202 million litres of milk by 2026,” said Mustafa Al Riyami, Coordination and Follow-up Specialist for the Public Authority for Stores and Food Reserves. “By 2020, we’ll have a selfsufficiency of 72 per cent, and by 2026, we’ll be at 87 per cent self-

In its forecast, the National Multi-Hazard and Early Warning Centre has said there are chances of isolated rain along the coastal areas of the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar during the next three days. New dairy farm could create 3,000 jobs
MUSCAT: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers will leave today for Bahrain to lead the Sultanate’s delegation at the 37th GCC Leaders’ Summit in Manama scheduled for December 6 and 7. This participation stems from the Sultanate’s belief, under the leadership of His Majesty the Sultan, on the importance of meetings that gather brothers to discuss all matters, which contribute in enhancing the cooperation march and meet the hopes and aspirations of the GCC people. Sayyid Fahd will be accompanied by an official delegation comprising Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas and Dr. Fu’ad bin Ja’afar Al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. -ONA
