Muscat. “We are again calling on everybody to not risk their lives by driving through fast moving waters,” said Daryle Hardie, CEO of Safety First Oman. In the recent past, accidents and casualties have been frequently reported in Oman due to careless vehicle drivers indulging in daredevilry on slippery roads and while crossing overflowing wadis. Hardie said that motorists should exercise caution while driving. “Citizens and residents should drive slowly on slippery roads and maintain a distance between
two vehicles as they have to think about themselves, their family and their vehicle while driving in such adverse conditions,” he told the Times of Oman on Monday. According to the DGMAN, a low pressure system, brought on by a trough in atmospheric pressure over Iran, is likely to bring rain to different parts of the country for the next three days. “It will start from Musandam on Tuesday and then slowly cover areas like South Batinah, Dhairah, Dakhiliyah, South and North of Sharqiyah, as well as the Muscat and Al Hajar Mountains,” said a senior DGMAN official. A senior official of the Royal Oman Police also called on drivers to exercise caution. “Wadis can fill up very quickly with rainwater and result in flash floods. So, we urge everyone to be cautious and follow the weather forecast and warnings issued,” he said. “People should stay away from the wadis and fishermen should not venture into the sea till Thursday, as the waves could reach three metres. Weather will gradually stabilise by Friday,” he added. >A4
