voices and responds,” Jeril Jose, father of Jestifer, told the Times of Oman. “We do not know what to say. We thank the Almighty for saving her life. But she is a girl child and she has lost her eyesight for no fault of hers. Why she should be cursed to lead a life without her eyesight, is worrying us. We are totally devastated by the accident,” said Jeril. “Even the elder daughter is unaware of the seriousness of the accident. She complains that her little sister is not looking at her and not talking,” added Jeril. Jestifer’s mother, who was standing across the road to receive her daughter, had watched in horror as the accident took place in front of her eyes.

After classes on April 8, Jestifer and her elder sister disembarked from the bus, but the bus lurched forward running over Jestifer. According to the parents, Jestifer and her elder sister were dropped by the bus opposite their residence. “The helper was supposed to escort the child to the parent, but he did not do so. The elder one crossed from the rear of the bus, while Jestifer walked across from the front,” said the parents. Meanwhile, seeing the road tragedies and to ensure the safety of children, the Indian School Mabela has hired a Dubai-based company to transport students. “We already had plans, but after Jestifer’s accident, we moved

fast. Tenders were called for and it was awarded to a Dubai-based company, which has experience in transporting 25,000 people in Dubai daily,” said a management committee member of the school. Trial run of bus “We will undertake a trial run in the first week of June, and it will be fully functional when the school reopens in August. “We have hired eight buses and already more than 10 per cent of students have enrolled in the school monitored transport system,” added the member. “The 65-seater buses will have Global Positioning System (GPS), IVMS, seat belts, trained drivers and attendants,” added the member. >A4
