rahuldas@timesofoman.com MUSCAT: Commuting to school is set to become safer for 30,000 children of Indian schools in the capital area. “We are coming up with schoolapproved and monitored transport system starting from the next academic year. The pilot project for this will start from Indian School Darsait next month which will be later implemented in all the schools in the capital area,” Wilson George, Chairman, Board of Directors, Indian schools in Sultanate of Oman, said. Indian schools in the city do not have buses and the parents have to rely on private operators for commuting. Accidents involving school children and growing traffic problem in and around Darsait have prompted the board to focus on safe transportation. Students from Oman asked not to pursue studies in Yemen for now Staff Reporter MUSCAT: Omani students will not be sent to study in Yemen for now, the Committee for Evaluation and Equation of Educational Qualifications and Degrees at the Ministry of Higher Education has decided. The committee said sending students for study will be resumed if stability returns to the country by the beginning of the academic year 2015/2016. The committee added that it will not recognise qualifications issued by the educational institutions from the Republic of Yemen. “Students who enrol in the Yemen educational institutions after the issuance of this decision will not be recognised,” the committee added.
The committee also decided not to recognise long distance learning science master degree in manufacturing management issued by the Birla Institute of Technology & Science of India in 2005. Also, PhD degree in engineering from the National Engineering Institute of Technology, India in 2011 as well as the non-equivalent degree of post graduate diploma in management (executive), issued by the International Management Institute, India in 2013, will also be not recognised. Medicine degree Furthermore, the committee also decided “not to equate bachelor medicine degree of Kharkive National Medical University in Ukraine in 2014”, because of an earlier decision of the Commit-
tee to suspend study in Central and Eastern Europe countries in 2003. Lahaye University Bachelor’s degree in business management issued by the Lahaye University in the Netherlands in 2007, will also not be recognised. The committee justified the decision that Lahaye University is not recognised by the Netherlands Organisation for Cooperation in Higher Education. The committee also approved a decision not to recognise bachelor degree of design graphics and advertising major, issued by the Frederick Institute of Technology, Cyprus in 2004. MUSCAT: In welcome news for commuters, the 18-km stretch between Muscat and Barka on upcoming Expressway project will be open in June, it was announced on Sunday. Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, accompanied by Salim bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Transport, paid a visit to Batinah Expressway on Sunday to check on the progress of the project.
