reji@timesofoman.com MUSCAT: Low pressure in the Arabian Sea is being monitored by Oman’s meteorological department, but so far there is no sign of a tropical depression, said an official. “We are monitoring the developments. So far, there is nothing concrete to announce to the public,” said the official. Global weather forums have forecast chances of a tropical depression forming in the Arabian Sea which is likely to head towards Salalah coast. However, an official from Salalah Port quoted weather charts showing the depression is not strong enough. “According to the weather charts it will weaken and is likely to hit Socotra Island in Yemen,” said the official.

MUSCAT: Most drowning accidents occur as parents do not monitor their children who are playing on the beach, an official from the Royal Oman Police (ROP) Coast Guard said. “There have been cases involving a large number of children on the beach where controlling them becomes difficult,” said a statement by the ROP. He also said that not wearing life jackets was also
an issue with children when they go swimming. The ROP advised parents to ensure that children wear life jackets at all times when swimming in the sea or pools. >A6
