saleh@timesofoman.com MUSCAT: Five critically injured victims of the horrific suicide bombings in Yemen are fighting for their lives in Oman after being evacuated in the Sultanate’s humanitarian efforts. Oman took in 40 seriously injured Yemenis on Saturday for medical treatment after they were hurt in Friday’s terrorist atrocity in Sanaa. On Sunday, Oman’s Foreign Ministry denounced the attacks which targeted Friday prayers at two mosques in the Yemeni capital.

A Government hospital source told Times of Oman, “We received yesterday (Saturday) in the hos-

pital about 40 Yemenis who have been injured in the attack in their country. They are receiving various treatments. “Their injuries range from loss of limbs to general body wounds. Most of them are serious and about five of them are in critical condition.” Discard violence In a statement issued yesterday (Sunday), the Foreign Ministry said that it, “Condemns this inhumane act, which has nothing to do with Islam and does not contribute to the success of the efforts made to resume dialogue.” The statement also said, “The Sultanate calls on all political parties to discard violence and give predominance to dialogue to ensure the success of the political process and lead the sisterly Yemeni Republic to stability and development.” Oman News Agency (ONA) said earlier that the treatment of the injured Yemenis was a gesture “in compliance with His Majesty the Sultan’s orders to respond to Yemen’s humanitarian demand.” Suicide bombers killed 142

worshippers and wounded hundreds more during Friday prayers at two mosques in coordinated attacks. IS has claimed responsibility for the mass killing. Power struggle The situation in Yemen worsened on Sunday as Houthi fighters opposed to the president took over the central city of Taiz in an escalation of a power struggle diplomats say risks drawing in neighbouring oil giant Saudi Arabia and its main regional rival Iran. Eyewitnesses in the central province of Ibb reported seeing dozens of tanks and military vehicles headed southward from Houthi-controlled areas toward Taiz, while activists in the city said Houthi gunmen shot into the air to disperse protests by residents demonstrating against their presence. Yemenis living in Muscat were horrified of the news. Many of them watched helplessly on television and feared the worse for their families and friends. “I was watching the massacre on television on Friday. It is sad my compatriots kill each other for the sake of political power. As a Yemeni living in Oman, I pray that the global powers will find a peaceful solution,” Mohammed Al Hadhrami, a Yemeni resident in Muscat, said. > A6 Latest on Yemen crisis > A7

TRAFFIC CONGESTION

Indian Social Club to relocate from Darsait REJIMON K FAHAD AL GHADANI

reji@timesofoman.com fahadnews@timesofoman.com MUSCAT: In a move aimed at easing the traffic congestion in and around Darsait area, the Muscat Municipality is considering advising the Indian Social Club to move out from its present location. “While discussing the plans to

ease the traffic congestion in the area, we found that on weekends, the traffic chaos is due to the social club’s activities. We cannot move out the school, but to ease the traffic congestion, we are planning to have more exits and entries in the area. So, we have plans to advise the social club to move out,” Salim Al Ghammari, Muscat Municipality Council member, said. “The social club has a piece

of land in Amerat. They have to construct a new building there,” Ghammari said while adding that in the coming meetings, the issue will be considered seriously. The Indian Social Club building is at present situated on the premises of the Indian School Muscat in Darsait. Residents are often annoyed by the traffic congestion caused due to events held at the club on the weekends. >A3
