Grand Mufti opens Supreme Court premises MUSCAT: Delegated by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, Sultanate’s Grand Mufti opened the Supreme Court premises on Wednesday. His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed Al Khalili affirmed that justice is an urgent and essential need and that the judicial institution should be characterised by fairness, justice, integrity and high morals because it is accountable before Allah and the public. Within this context, His Majesty the Sultan sought to integrate justice and fairness among people by giving the judicial institution its due status. Sheikh Dr. Is’haq bin Ahmed Al Busaidi, Chairman of the Supreme Court, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council affirmed that this prominent landmark exemplifies His Majesty the Sultan’s interest in all components of culture in Oman. It is also an evidence of cultural, modernity and justice of the Omani society. Moreover, it also reflects the unique and splendid Omani architecture, as well as its
high status of justice. Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Minister of Justice said in a statement to ONA that the unique architectural design of the Supreme Court premises reflects the grandeur status of judiciary in the thought of His Majesty the Sultan, who accorded judiciary with major attention and care. The opening ceremony included a visual presentation on the Omani judiciary and poems. At the end, the chief guest and attendees toured sections of the premises. -ONA

It has been 12 months since the tragic drowning of three-yearold Marwa who was swept away while playing in the sea in Shinas. Public schools have ended their academic year with private schools following them soon. He also advised parents to take precautions and always keep safety equipment in case of an emergency. “Safety equipment is necessary if someone takes his family and children (to the beach). New mobile app to book taxis in Oman Times News Service MUSCAT: Taxis in Oman can soon be booked using a new mobile app, the Ministry of Tourism announced on Wednesday. These taxis will be available for commuters through a mobile app service and website, along with call centre services. “Through this solution, taxis will be at your doorstep anywhere and at any time with just the touch of a button. Along with the convenience of booking a taxi, the system provides a safe and secure environment for tourists, allowing locals and expats to use taxis for travelling within the country,” the Ministry said. “This solution will not only benefit passengers, but will also make it easier for local Omani drivers to do their jobs using innovative yet simple mobile technologies. The solution provides the drivers with enhanced exposure to commuter needs, thereby increasing their earnings, as well as increase their credibility and professionalism to gain the passengers’ trust,” it said. The launch date or the number of taxis has not been announced yet. The ministry also said drivers can also reap rewards of optimised fuel consumption as a result of the best routes suggested by the technology in the mobile handsets fitted in their taxis. “They will also be trained in every aspect to provide the best services seamlessly. The introduction of these services will also generate jobs for locals,” it said. “As a mission to provide the above benefits and much more to the masses, the Ministry of Tourism has done immense research and invested its efforts to partner with leading solutions provider, Ingenuity Technologies LLC.
