Encouraging Participation

Space-saving and money-saving, a MUGA pitch is essentially an outdoor space carefully designed to incorporate a number of different sports and games activities. Its installation means schools can offer a wider repertoire of physical activities and, through this, encourage more children to take part.

The Educational Advantages of a MUGA

MUGA facilities provide schools and colleges with a range of useful benefits. One of the most important is the ability to develop a wider PE curriculum. By fitting out a single space with multiple pitch markings, schools are able to deliver a wider variety of sports for pupils to take part in. This flexibility is ideal for schools with small outdoor spaces that are currently only able to offer limited provision, though even those with extended grounds have discovered the benefits of having multiple MUGAs.

The Educational Advantages of a MUGA

There is a range of MUGA sports pitches available, with different surfaces, including artificial grass, and a variety of pitch markings, such as football, hockey, netball, tennis, basketball and cricket. There are also other features you can include, such as goal posts, basketball/netball nets, ball walls and wall targets. What’s more, the pitches can be sized to fit the space you have available, letting you maximise the use of your existing outdoor area. Children can also use MUGAs to play on during break and lunchtimes. This provides all students with the opportunity to participate.

Our unique system challenges children across a range of abilities. A Trim Trail from ESP can combine simplified, intermediate and advanced versions of products, each offering progressively more risk and challenge to complete. The flexibility of our fitness Trim Trails enables you to pick and choose each item according to how appropriate it is for your children. You can also create bespoke Trim Trails courses, setting the items out in a course that compliments your school environment. Components can be installed in a line, a zig-zag format, a circular arrangement or each can be positioned as an activity station.

Installation Services

Where ESP install the Goods, ESP guarantees the workmanship of the installation for a period of 12 months.

The Goods are comprised of various materials, all of which have the different guarantee periods set out below.

Timber

- 15 years: Timber Rounds (Radiata Pine & Laminated Redwood)

- 15 years: Sawn Timber (Fifths Redwood)

Thermoplastic

Our playground markings are all installed using thermoplastic. When applied, thermoplastic will last for many years with little to no maintenance required. We use a glass bead additive on every installation so the markings have extra grip. The warranty only applies to the adherence to a tarmac surface in accordance with installation instructions.

- 3 years: Thermoplastic Playground Markings

Surfacing

- 5 years: Artificial Grass. Applies to all sports grass materials and play grass materials.

- 5 years: Wetpour Surfacing. Applies to workmanship and materials when laid onto an approved appropriate sub-base with precast concrete edgings.

The rope-work is made by binding steel wire inside a polypropylene twine which makes it ultra durable and long lasting. All the eyelet fixings are high-impact plastic and the ferrules are all aluminium for the highest quality.

Your playground design starts with a visit to your school from your regional ESP representative. Our representative will listen very carefully to your specific requirements and vision, whilst also providing you with the most up-to-date expert advice on how you could develop your playground. Following a full site survey and thorough assessment of your playground areas, your ESP representative will brief one of our in-house playground designers.

The designers will get to work in producing an outstanding design that will clearly illustrate the proposed layout and flow of the new development.
