COMFORT Adequate lighting and simulated daylight promote well-being. Does your infrastructure help to provide comfort for your residents?

SUSTAINABILITY EFFICIENCY To work effectively, doctors and nursing staff need suitable lighting that can be adjusted to suit the work they do. Does your infrastructure shed enough light on the work your staff are doing?

MAINTENANCE Maintenance of lighting systems means more than a quick wipe to remove the dust. Stocks of different lamp types are also an important factor. How easy to maintain are your lighting systems?

The range of light sources available is virtually endless. Comparisons based on cost, however, are obsolete. Only Total Cost of Ownership - the price of buying, operating, maintaining and recycling your lighting infrastructure - is truly relevant. How sustainable are your lighting systems?

ENERGY EFFICIENT Lighting accounts for 21% of a hospitals' energy bill. With automated systems for day and night, occupancy sensors, dimmers and the correct choice of lighting for every area, you can make significant savings on this important item. Is your lighting energy efficient?

FOCUS ON CARE LIGHTEN THE BURDEN

BETTER LIGHT, BETTER CARE ABOUT MODULAR

The world of hospitals and care homes is constantly changing. Patients not only demand the best, personalised care. Their temporary environment also needs to be homely, inviting and comfortable. More and more care homes are therefore letting the outdoors in. The sector is becoming warmer, more positive and more colourful.

Perhaps a light comes on when you hear the name Modular Lighting Instruments. If so, it is no coincidence. We have been designing innovative, architectural lighting for major projects for more than three decades. We are perfectly at home in the industrial, service and care sectors.

All our designs embrace our special care for the environment. In every design we find ways of saving energy by using smart, flexible systems. We look for ways of using materials that will last a long time and are reusable. The aim is to make a sustainable contribution towards a green planet.

Our designs are characterised by their forward-looking character, attractive forms and functional design. We are also innovators in the area of technology.

We provide perfect lighting for your working environment. So you can lighten the burden for those in your care.

Managers, doctors, nurses and care staff carry large responsibilities. They need to be able to carry out their work in comfortable, safe conditions. The pressure is rising all the time. Governments are limiting resources and keeping budgets in check. There is growing competition between institutions. The long-term vision of care homes seeks to reconcile profitability, innovation and sustainability.

Sophisticated lighting is more than simply a luxury or a necessity. It offers tangible added value to everyone who spends time in a hospital or care home. Light has a positive influence on both mind and body.

PATIENT ROOMS where people live and work

A patient room consists of two areas - a bedroom and a bathroom - and each of them has its own lighting requirements. A patient room also fulfils multiple functions. The focus is on the patient or person receiving care. Suitable lighting is vital to encourage their healing process. A friendly atmosphere that makes them feel at home. Light also has a powerful influence on everything we do; light has a healing effect on the body. Greater comfort for residents is ensured by: + changing lighting during the day so that it does not seem artificial + providing safe, functional light for reading. Nursing staff and doctors also benefit from sophisticated, flexible lighting. Ease of use and adjustability make investigations and interventions easier and improve quality as a result.

A truly excellent lighting concept must: + minimise shadows. + provide subtle night lighting with sufficient visibility, without disturbing the patient's sleep. + while ensuring ease of maintenance. Providing the right lighting at the right time is vital in order to ensure the best medical and personal care. It is important not to forget that this also creates a welcoming environment for visitors. After all, they bring a ray of light into every room‌

H2A

IN THE PATIENT ROOM The pure, minimalistic design comprises direct, indirect and night lighting. H2A provides a warm, homelike light, reading light, examination light and night light. You can also use various dimming systems: DALI protocol, pushdim and analogue dimmer - to create different levels of lighting in the patient room.. The modular structure of H2A offers you a tailor-made lighting solution: you can combine polycarbonate (matt or gloss), reflectors, wattage and dimming to create the system that meets your requirements best.

+ direct, indirect, emergency and night lighting are all possible in one system + dimmer systems can be integrated + symmetrical / asymmetric light distribution + the lighting level is adjustable + easy installation and maintenance + tailored solutions (length, lamps and colour finish) + efficient diffusers

13 —

— 14

H2A - DOWN / UP Combined use of general (up) and direct (down) light creates the correct lux value for medical examinations.

15 —

H2A - DOWN Direct (down) lighting offers good background lighting for patient and nurse.

— 16

H2A - UP Atmospheric lighting for the room as a whole can be achieved using the "up" module, which creates optimum indirect light distribution.

17 —

H2A - HIGH POWER LEDS The high power LED is a compact point source that can be directed to provide the ideal reading area.

— 18

H2A - CONVENTIONAL LEDS Conventional LEDs provide enough light for staff and patient orientation.

19 —

— 20

H2A POLY - TRANSPARENT / MATT

Modular has developed single-piece polycarbonate extrusions specifically for H2A (up to 6m long). This development means that the polycarbonate is more robust, is easy to install and guarantees the perfect finish. The extruded polycarbonate has also passed the filament test (960°) and the material is classified as V0 fire resistant. The lighting module for indirect room lighting can be fitted with one or two T5 24W/39W or 54W lamps. The top of the H2A module is finished in transparent or matt polycarbonate. For the bottom there is a choice of clear (PMMA) or matt polycarbonate. These polycarbonates influence light output and create an aesthetic effect.

poly up - matt

poly down – matt efficiency up to 62%

poly up - transparent

poly down PMMA – clear efficiency up to 75%

21 —

H2A LIGHT OUTPUT - SYMMETRICAL / ASYMMETRICAL

The H2A up module is available with symmetrical or asymmetrical reflectors. Both provide excellent indirect light distribution: the asymmetrical version increases the level of lighting at the end of the bed, while the symmetrical version creates a more noticeable wall-wash effect.

asymmetrical

— 22

H2A CONVENTIONAL LED - ORIENTATION AND COLOURS

A conventional LED module in 4 colours (amber, red, blue and white) provides orientation lighting at night for both staff and patients. Due to its relatively low light output, the conventional LED is used in the H2A profile specifically for indirect and direct orientation lighting. The H2A is able to incorporate conventional LEDs that distribute light diffusely because they are built into the profile behind the matt polycarbonate. Direct orientation lighting can also be created because conventional LEDs at the bottom of the H2A profile distribute the light through an opening in the profile. H2A LED conv. front

TUNABLE WHITE - BRING THE DAYLIGHT IN

Our biological clocks are sensitive to light. The type of light is also important to both doctors and patients. Light that is adapted to suit the patient's biological clock helps people to feel healthier and fitter.

Colour temperature (CCT) expresses the perceived warmth or coldness of white light. The colour temperature is usually expressed in Kelvin (K). Light with a low colour temperature is usually perceived as 'warmer' than light with a high colour temperature.

The tunable white LED engine from Modular perfectly simulates natural outdoor light within the room. By manipulating the intensity and colour of the white light you can bring a stimulating atmosphere into the room to match the rhythm of human activities. + Cold white light increases alertness and activity and is ideal for examinations. + Warm white light creates a comfortable, relaxed feeling and creates a friendly atmosphere.

CORRIDORS

fully illuminated at all times

Many different people use the corridors of hospitals and care homes at all times of the day and night. A well-designed lighting solution provides the necessary visibility while also preventing energy wastage.

Adequate corridor lighting helps to ensure their safety when they move around. Older people in particular benefit from good visibility. Light helps these residents to find their way around the building.

With dimmer systems and occupancy sensors you can ensure that your corridor lighting is a shining example of the rational use of lighting. Central system control allows you to meet differing requirements during the day and at night.

Health care workers and nursing staff have to do demanding work. Suitable lighting helps them to provide an excellent service.

For visitors, first impressions of your health care institution or care home are decisive. Hard neon lighting or inadequate light are not welcoming. Lighting can also play a functional role: continuous lines of lighting will invite visitors to move towards their destination. Patients or residents spend a long time in a hospital or care home.

THE OFFICE

an efficient environment promotes motivation

Administrative areas and offices are places where people have to work at a fast pace, day after day. Efficiency is key: the lighting needs to be suitable for the needs of the staff. Apart from functional aspects, there is also an emotional side. A workplace with the right lighting accents can be more pleasant and promote motivation and dynamism.

— 70

THE RIGHT LIGHT IN THE RIGHT PLACE People need adequate lighting in order to work well. Unnecessary light, however, is a waste of money. Interactive systems such as occupancy detection can help you to save energy by only lighting those areas that are occupied by people.

VISITOR AND RELAXATION AREA feeling at home is the key

The visitor area or relaxation area consists of the entrance hall, shops, waiting rooms, cafeteria and areas for relaxation. These areas showcase the welcoming atmosphere of the hospital or care home. Lighting has a number of different roles in these areas. The emphasis is on ensuring orientation and safety while also creating a hospitable, welcoming atmosphere. General lighting is combined with innovative, decorative lighting accents on the walls or ceiling.

ENTRANCE HALL Anyone entering a hospital or care home except to work there will have a sense of hesitancy on crossing the threshold. Nevertheless it is possible to offer a warm welcome to every visitor and show them that every room in the building is friendly and hospitable. The right lighting touches can do wonders in this area and give you the opportunity to set your institution apart from others.

87 —

WAITING ROOM Both patients and those accompanying them spend a lot of time in the waiting areas. Interior design and lighting work together here to provide a pleasant, calming atmosphere. This allows those waiting there to feel calmer as they wait for investigations.

— 88

CAFETERIA AND RELAXATION AREA These areas give patients and visitors the opportunity to meet together outside the rooms. They can enjoy each other's company, have a drink and soak up the sociable, cheerful atmosphere. Pain or discomfort can be dulled by distractions, seeking friends and family or simply relaxing. Lighting plays an important part in creating a friendly, warm and homely atmosphere in these areas.

OUTDOOR AREA

keeping the threshold as low as possible

Once night falls, the area around your building needs to be illuminated. It is important to maintain the right balance here. It is possible to use lighting economically while still ensuring the safety of those living near the building. The pathway to the entrance and the building itself must be adequately lit to show visitors the way and minimise the risk of accidents. Night-time also creates an opportunity to draw attention to the architecture of your building in more striking ways.
