One of the main objectives of this project was to resolve how to build a pool on the property while maintaining the pre-existing structure of the house and patio (a 50 year old home on a small lot – 7.5 meters x 15 meters – in Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The combination of interventions was possible, in large part, because of the pre-existing structure. On the ground floor, all of the internal walls were removed, creating an ample, unified space to include an eat-in kitchen, living room and family room / library. A staircase was built in the patio to connect the first floor with the second and third floors.

Estudio a77 – un tânăr birou din Buenos Aires înfiinţat în 2006 de Gustavo Diéguez & Lucas Gilardi – exemplifică o practică adaptată inteligent unor condiţii locale şi dedicată materialităţii constructive. Cele patru proiecte prezentate în cadrul acestui dosar dau măsura unei viziuni optimiste, antiutopice şi antieroice. Vorbim despre proiecte mici, uneori chiar de 25-30 mp (atelierul unei dansatoare, extinderea locuinţei unuia dintre membrii biroului a77) ori de construcţii din materiale reciclate care se dezvoltă pe structuri existente, amplificând posibilităţile de locuire pentru familii mai extinse sau restrânse, cu bugete rezonabile. Am putea crede că membrii biroului argentinian sunt doar nişte bricoleuri talentaţi inspiraţi de Jean Prouvé (modelul profesional asumat în profunzime în acest caz). Se dovedesc însă capabili de o investigare mai largă a aspectelor conceptuale ale edificării, angajând într-un mod creativ şi sustenabil resursele locale. Ne surprind încă o dată cu trimiteri subtile la un orizont teoretic, articulat la diverse registre culturale: sociologice, arheologice, semiotice sau cinematografice. Şi nici una dintre aceste referinţe intelectuale nu pare a intra în contradicţie cu lectura contextului urban atât de particular şi de complicat, cum este cel al Buenos Airesului.
Estudio a77 – a young office of Buenos Aires founded in 2006 by Gustavo Diéguez & Lucas Gilardi – exemplifies a practice which was intelligently adapted to local conditions and dedicated to constructive materiality. The four projects presented as part of this file are the expression of an optimistic, anti-utopian and antiheroic vision. We are talking here about small projects, sometimes even of 25–30 m2 (a dancer’s studio, the extension of one of the a77 member’s house) or constructions made of recycled materials that are developed on existing structures, increasing the living possibilities for larger or smaller families, on reasonable budgets. We could believe that the members of the Argentinean office are only some talented do-it-yourself enthusiasts inspired by Jean Prouvé (the professional

model deeply assumed in this case). However, they prove to be capable of a wider investigation of the edification conceptual aspects, creatively and sustainably engaging local resources. They are surprising us once again with subtle references to a theoretical horizon, articulated on different cultural registers: sociological, archaeological, semiotic or cinematographic. And none of these intellectual references seem to come into conflict with the reading of such a particular and complicated urban context as that of Buenos Aires.

Multiple possibilities for living
Unul dintre obiectivele principale ale acestui proiect a fost acela de a găsi o soluţie pentru construirea unei piscine pe proprietate, menţinând actuala structură a casei şi curţii interioare (o casă cu o vechime de 50 de ani aflată pe un mic teren de 7.5 x 15 m) – în Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Combinaţia de intervenţii a fost posibilă în mare parte datorită structurii preexistente. La parter, au fost înlăturaţi toţi pereţii interiori, generându-se un spaţiu amplu, unificat, pentru a îngloba o bucătărie unde să se poată lua masa, sufrageria şi camera de zi / biblioteca. În curtea interioară s-a construit o scară de legătură între primul, al doilea şi al treilea etaj.
Posibilităţi multiple de locuit Terasa enormă de pe acoperiş, care făcea parte din structura iniţială – tipică în Buenos Aires – şi descoperirea existenţei unei structuri din beton ascunse sub tencuiala pereţilor de la primul etaj au făcut posibilă ridicarea unei structuri metalice în jumătatea superioară a casei pentru a include dormitoarele, piscina şi zona pentru barbecue. Dormitorul copiilor şi piscina au fost realizate cu ajutorul unei structuri de pod metalic amplasat de-a latul părţii frontale a proprietăţii. Podul oferă suportul pentru piscină şi
The enormous rooftop terrace of the original structure – typical in Buenos Aires – and the discovery of an existing concrete structure hidden under the plaster walls of the first floor, made it possible to raise a metallic structure to encompass the upper half of the house, including the bedrooms, the pool and the barbecue area. The children’s bedrooms and the pool were resolved with a metallic bridge structure placed across the width of the front end of the house lot. The bridge acts as a support for the pool and achieves the greatest amount of air, light and views. Underneath the bridge, the varying heights resulting from an irregular geometry created an area of multiple possibilities for the children’s bedroom and playroom. These possibilities will be developed as the children grow and the need and use of the space changes. Their living space will also grow under the bridge.
