A Tallinni Kamarazenekar és az Észt Filharmónia Kamarakórusa Vezényel: Tõnu Kaljuste Műsor: Arvo Pärt: Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten Arvo Pärt: Adam’s Lament Arvo Pärt: Salve Regina Arvo Pärt: Te Deum Tõnu Kaljuste karmester Arvo Pärt zenéjének egyik legavatottabb tolmácsolója, aki a zeneszerző barátságát és szakmai nagyrabecsülését is magáénak tudhatja. 1991-ben alapította meg az Észt Filharmónia Kamarakórusát, melynek 20 évig művészeti vezetője és karnagya volt, majd 2 évre rá a Tallinni Kamarazenekart. A kórus és a zenekar kezdetektől mindmáig tartó együttműködése nemzetközi ismertséget és elismerést hozott: mindkét kollektíva szívesen látott fellépő a világ bármely rangos koncerttermében a Carnegie Halltól a pekingi Tiltott Városig. 1993-ban vették fel a neves ECM kiadónál az Arvo Pärt: Te Deum című albumot, amelyet további Arvo Pärt-lemezek követtek: a Litany (1996), az In Principio (2009) és az Adam’s Lament (2012), ez utóbbiért Tõnu Kaljuste elnyerte a Grammy-díjat.

He founded the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir in 1991, which he led as the artistic director and chief conductor for 20 years, and 2 years later the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. The cooperation of the choir and the orchestra that started right at the beginning as is flourishing today earned international fame and recognition: both ensembles are well received in the most prestigious concert halls of the world from Carnegie Hall to the Forbidden City in Beijing. They recorded Arvo Pärt: Te Deum in 1993 for the world-renowned ECM record company. This was followed by other Arvo Pärt albums, also for ECM: Litany (1996), In Principio (2009) and Adam’s Lament (2012), the latter winning Tõnu Kaljuste a Grammy Award.

Mari Kalkun Duó Mari Kalkun – ének, kannel, harmonika Aleksandra Kremenetski – ének, ütőhangszerek, vibrafon A lombok susogása, a megáradt patak tavaszi csobogása, a hópelyhek puha landolása a kabátgalléron – ez mind kihallatszik az észt erdők legmélyéről hozzánk szóló Mari Kalkun zenéjéből. Általános emberi témákat tárgyaló dalainak túlnyomó többségét maga írja, ihletet a természetből, a kortárs költészetből és az életből merít. Bensőséges hangulatú, légies kompozícióit többnyire az ősi észt húros hangszeren, a citerával rokon kannelen kíséri, olykor harmonikát is a kezébe vesz. Legújabb albuma, az Ilmamõtsan (A világ erdejében), amely értő módon fonja össze szűkebb pátriája és a nagyvilág hangjait, felkerült a World Music Chart Europe top 10-es listájára. 2016-ban kezdődött együttműkődése a különböző ütőhangszereken játszó Aleksandra Kremenetskivel. Mari Kalkun nem először jár Magyarországon: négy éve Runorun nevű nemzetközi formációjával aratott nálunk nagy sikert az Észt héten.

Mari Kalkun Duo Mari Kalkun – vocals, kannel, accordion Aleksandra Kremenetski – vocals, percussions, vibraphone The rustling of leaves, the gurgling of a swelling stream in spring, snowflakes softly landing on the collar of a coat – you can hear it when listening to Mari Kalkun, whose voice speaks to us from the depths of the Estonian forests. Drawing inspiration from nature, contemporary poetry and life itself, the songs of Mari Kalkun, most of which she writes herself, explore general themes of being human. Her warm, ethereal compositions are largely accompanied by the kannel, an ancient Estonian string instrument related to the zither, and at times by the accordion. Her latest album, Ilmamõtsan (In the forest of the world), which interweaves the sounds of her immediate homeland with those of the wider world, made it to the top ten of the World Music Chart Europe. In 2016, she started collaborating with Aleksandra Kremenetski, who plays various percussion instruments. This one is not the first of Mari Kalkun’s visits to Hungary: she performed a highly successful concert with the international formation Runorun at the Estonian week four years ago.

Peedu Kass Momentum Peedu Kass – nagybőgő Kristjan Randalu – zongora Toomas Rull – ütőhangszerek A Peedu Kass Momentum visszatérő vendég az Opus Jazz Clubban: 2015 októberében már meghódították a klub közönségét kizárólag saját szerzeményeikből álló programjukkal. A tiszta hangzásáról, izgalmas ritmusairól és lendületes színpadi előadásáról ismert, kortárs jazzt játszó zongoratriót az észt nagybőgős Peedu Kass vezeti. Az általa alapított Momentum volt a legelső észt zenekar, amely felléphetett a legnagyobb európai jazz szakvásár, az évente áprilisban Brémában rendezett Jazzahead showcase-színpadán 2015-ben. Nem sokra rá, 2016-ban megjelent első lemezük is. A csapat zongoristája a briliáns Kristjan Randalu, az észt jazz nagykövete a nyugati féltekén. A Momentum egyéni hangzásához nagyban hozzájárul Kristjan játékának csillogó virtuozitása és ritmikai intenzitása. Toomas Rull az észt jazzdobosok kulcsfigurája, egyszerre érzékeny fülű, társaira figyelő játékos és termékeny dalszerző.

Peedu Kass Momentum Peedu Kass – double bass Kristjan Randalu – piano Toomas Rull – drums It is not the first time that Peedu Kass Momentum has played in concert at the Opus Jazz Club: their programme, strictly composed of their own pieces, performed in October 2015 was a great success with the club’s audience. Known for their pure sound, exciting rhythms and powerful stage performance, the contemporary jazz trio is led by Peedu Kass, an Estonian bassist. Momentum, founded by Kass, was the first Estonian group to be chosen to perform in 2015 at the world’s biggest jazz trade show Jazzahead, organised every April in Bremen. Soon after, in 2016, their first album was released. The trio’s pianist, the brilliant Kristjan Randalu, is the ambassador of Estonian jazz in the western hemisphere. Momentum’s unique sound owes much to the sparkling virtuosity and rhythmic intensity of Kristjan’s play. Drummer Toomas Rull is the keystone of Estonian jazz drumming, who is not only a sensitive listener while playing but also a prolific songwriter.

Tormis Quartet Liisi Koikson – ének Kadri Voorand – ének Paul Daniel – gitár Jaak Sooäär – gitár A tavaly elhunyt Veljo Tormis (1930-2017) egyike volt a 20. század legfontosabb európai kórusmű-zeneszerzőinek. Az észt szerző darabjait Kadri Voorand énekesnő és Jaak Sooräär gitáros egész fiatal koruktól kezdve ismerték és énekelték különféle kórusok tagjaiként. 2015-ben, a szerző 85. születésnapját ünneplő események részeként, a tallinni Jazzkaar fesztivál felkérésére Liisi Koikson énekesnővel és Paul Daniel gitárossal kiegészülve különleges koncertprogramot állítottak össze, melyben Veljo Tormis műveit egészen egyedi módon, jazzes formában szólaltatták meg. A fellépés hatalmas sikert aratott, így a négy zenész úgy döntött, hogy folytatják az egyszerinek indult projektet. Azóta Észtország szinte valamennyi folk és jazz fesztiváljának színpadán megfordultak már, de nagy sikerrel szerepeltek az Egyesült Királyságban, Izraelben, Németországban és Finnországban is. Idén júliusban Tormisele - Hommage To Veljo Tormis címmel bemutatkozó albumuk is megjelent a német Nordic Notes kiadó gondozásában.

Tormis Quartet Liisi Koikson – vocals Kadri Voorand – vocals Paul Daniel – guitar Jaak Sooäär – guitar Estonian composer Veljo Tormis (1930-2017) was one of the main choral composers of the 20th century in Europe. Singer Kadri Voorand and guitarist Jaak Sooäär have known and sung his songs in choirs since an early age. As part of celebrating the 85th birthday of Veljo Tormis, the Tallin-based Jazzkaar festival proposed a concert performing Tormis’ music in a jazzy context, for which Voorand and Sooäär were joined by singer Liisi Koikson and guitarist Paul Daniel. As the debut was a resounding success, the four musicians decided to continue as a group and have performed at numerous folk and jazz festivals in Estonia and also in the UK, Israel, Germany and Finland. This July the quartet released their debut album Tormisele – Hommage to Veljo Tormis recorded for the German music label Nordic Notes.

(Taasleitud laul, 1977, 20 min, rendezte: Peep Puks) A portréfilmben a zeneszerző a filmben a népzene iránti szenvedélyéről, a regiénekről és a kortárs kóruszenében való felhasználásának lehetőségeiről beszél. Láthatjuk, ahogy a regiének fáradhatatlan népszerűsítőjeként és előénekesként személyesen bírja dalolásra az embereket, de betekinthetünk a népzenétől ihletett kórusműveinek próbáiba és előadásaiba is.
A világ teremtése
részletek a Csí kszerda kórus programjából Veljo Tormis művei egyedi hangon szólaltatják meg múlt és jelen közös problémáit, expresszív, ugyanakkor közérthető zenei világa megmagyarázhatatlan mondai térbe repíti a hallgatót és magát az előadót is. A világ teremtése a zeneszerző látomásszerű teremtészenéiből áll össze egyetlen zenei szertartássá, ahol az énekesek a világ örök körforgását igyekeznek megéreztetni a hallgatókkal. A 2009-ben alakult, mára több száz aktív taggal működő Csíkszerda kórus Tóth Árpád karnagy vezetésével újragondolja a közös éneklés minden elemét. A darabokat jelen idejűvé, élővé tevő improvizáció az egyéni alkotó szabadság megélése a közönséggel közösen.

Veljo Tormis The Song Refound film screening
(Taasleitud laul, 1977, 20 min, dir.: Peep Puks) The documentary is a portrait of Veljo Tormis, talking about his passion for folk music, the ancient Estonian folksong called regilaul and its inclusion in contemporary choral music. The film shows how as a tireless ambassador and lead singer of regi songs, he inspired people around him to sing, but it also allows an insight into the rehearsals and performances of his choral compositions drawing on folk music.
The Creation of the World
excerpts from the Csikszereda Choir’s programme Veljo Tormis’s works with their unique sound address the problems that existed in the past and exist in the present alike. His expressive and yet easily understandable musical world takes listeners – as well as the performers – into an indefinable mythical realm. The Creation of the World fuses the composer’s visionary pieces into a single musical ritual, where singers try to make the audience experience the eternal cycle of the universe. Conducted by Árpád Tóth, the Csíkszerda Choir (founded in 2009 and now having hundreds of active members) rethinks every element of singing together. Improvisation inspires a common experience with the audience.

A magyar nyelvű változat az Észt Intézet és az Észt Zenei Vállalkozásfejlesztési Központ szervezésében és támogatásával valósult meg. Kurátor: Kristo Matson és Marge Raun The exhibition compiled by the Estonian Museum of Theatre and Music presents an overview of the life of the composer, whilst giving a sense of the concepts of his music. The Hungarian version of the exhibition was realized as the result of the cooperation and with the support of the Estonian Institute in Hungary and the Estonian Music Development Centre.
