Do you have an interest in reading and writing and would like to develop your skills whilst gaining a nationally recognised qualification? Perhaps you are furthering your education or career and GCSE English is an essential requirement for your next step? Or maybe you want to develop confidence to enable you to support children and grandchildren in their studies? GCSE English could be the course for you!

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Study an exciting range of both fiction and non-fiction texts to develop the skills required when analysing unseen texts. Analyse the use of language and structure for a range of purposes across a range of activities. You will also develop your creative writing skills both for narrative and non-fiction writing.

The course also includes the study of spoken language with an opportunity to develop vital presentation skills.

HOW AM I ASSESSED?

There is a mixture of continuous assessment methods throughout the year, including 2 mock exams, in addition to the final exams that are planned for June.

WHAT’S NEXT?

GCSE English is required in many professions such as teaching or nursing. It can also be a good foundation for those wanting to move on to an Access to Higher Education course.

Are you self-disciplined and enjoy using technology to help you learn? Our unique online delivery of GCSE English could be for you. Online tutorials, personal email tuition and videos will support your exploration of the English language. With no classroom based teaching, you will be required to demonstrate a strong starting point in your initial assessment. There is still a requirement to sit the formal assessments in college.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

HOW AM I ASSESSED?

You will belong to an online class and will have your own tutor who gives you help and support throughout the course. WHAT’S NEXT?

GCSE English is required in many professions such as teaching or nursing. It can also be a good foundation for those wanting to move on to an Access to Higher Education course.

Course Type: Functional Skills

Length: 1 year, part-time at 2 hours per week

Cost: Free*

Assessment: Assessments in each of the skill areas taken throughout the year

Location:

Functional Skills are a great way to build confidence, improve skills and give you essential English skills for everyday life and work. We have experienced tutors who can support you no matter what level you are already at. You may be a complete beginner or just want to refresh your memory and gain an up to date, nationally recognised, qualification. We can support you.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

On Functional English you can learn to write in different styles using different formats, brush up on your basics (spelling, grammar and punctuation), improve your reading skills and learn how to communicate confidently and effectively, both spoken and written. We provide opportunities to develop employability skills and ensure you feel as confident as you can with your literacy skills.

HOW AM I ASSESSED?

You will complete tasks within your classes that will allow your tutor to assess your progress. You will have regular reviews with your tutor to discuss this. When you are confident and ready, you will complete an exam to gain your qualification.

WHAT’S NEXT?

On completion of the level 2 course you could apply for a vocational course, an Access course or GCSE English. The qualification at level 2 is accepted by most employers and education providers.

Our tutors adopt a range of teaching methods to suit an individual’s needs as they build confidence around the GCSE Maths curriculum. You will study a programme that encompasses the whole of the maths curriculum this will include; number, algebra, ratio, geometry, measures, statistics and probability. Your learning will be targeted to your starting point following diagnostic assessments.

Our unique GCSE Maths delivery option is perfect for those students with a strong knowledge of ‘basic’ maths skills but who cannot attend a weekly session. Online delivery is an exciting way to learn and gain a GCSE qualification to support you taking the next steps in your education, career or everyday life.
