The Geode is a proposed student residence situated at York University and Seneca College. The development stands five levels tall, with the first floor being amenities, while upper four floors residential. The concept of this space is translated in its formal units that align to a very regular grid, while the open, single loaded corridor contrasts all regularity found around the exterior shell of the structure. Much like a natural geode; a hard shell wraps around a hollow core lined with geometric crystals of beautiful colour and translucency. The suites are designed to encourage social interaction within the corridor of the building. The layout lacks large living/gathering spaces while the wall facing the corridor feature frosted glass glazing at the foot of the door, top of the door, and along the kitchen backsplash – but never eye level in order to visually create intimate lighting with the corridor. The Geode is for the sociable student who enjoys a close community and playful thresholds whether it be interior or exterior.
