Good Heavens!! I stopped counting the number of news articles and book reviews I’ve read about ‘The Office Bitch’ on the internet. It sounds so ‘easy’ to tag a colleague and / or employee as the office bitch. In reality, what we often fail to realize, are the reasons for which ‘A’ particular employee is tagged ‘The Office Bitch’. Off course, she must have been a target at some point in past circumstances, wherein she might have been forced to suck up to the circumstances that were dished out at her or maybe she has or had her own ‘personal’ issues to be the same, and doesn’t know otherwise.
Whatever be her reasons she will always be ‘The Office Bitch’ in the eyes and minds of those who knew her until each employee leave their positions for better offers and / or choices. But remember one thing people, there will always be ‘AN’ ‘Office Bitch’ wherever you work. The point is to ensure that she isn’t in ‘your’ way, unless requested by higher authorities with reference to work related issues. Also, upon realizing who she is at the workplace, every effort should be made to ‘understand’ the ‘place she is coming from’. In her defense, she concludes it as the ‘experience’ you ‘don’t have’.
The next thing to usually do is to understand as to how you could use her to your advantage; perhaps in this way, you get a better grip of your feet under the table in the organization. There are always lessons to be learnt from all kinds of attitudes of different people around you. The point is to perceive, comprehend, and develop empathy in silence. Nothing works overnight. Everything works out ‘in time’, provided ‘patience’ is allowed to play a major role in your presented circumstances. Does this really work?? No!! Not at all. Are we a patient ‘kind’ of people?? Think again!! Are you kidding?? These are those questions we should silently contemplate upon, while calmly relaxing with a cup of tea. And, yes, there are those who ‘never get it!! Ever!’
Does all that even make sense? Yes!! Is it possible to put it into practice? Yes / No / Depends!! The Office Bitch, will in all probability, continue to be the bitch we know wherever she works. As difficult as it may sound and practically seem impossible to comprehend the attitude of people, you have to train your mind to stay calm and observant. But don’t be a doormat. The point is to collect continuous ‘leverage’ to keep
your job. Who knows, at some point it will benefit you in ways that will completely take you by surprise!!
