BEGINNINGS Francisco Rodrigo, owner and founder of ETXEONDO, originally started his career working in a sublimation workshop on top brands created by high end fashion designers, now known worldwide such as Dior or Balenciaga. Later on, his passion for sports led him to combine his experience in this industry with the development of high-quality, exclusive sport clothes. In 1976, he decided to concentrate on a clothing range for cyclists, given his profound love for the sport. The first workshop was set up in a friendâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s building in the village of Etxeondo, within the municipality of Irura, near San Sebastian, Gipuzkoa. The brand was named in honour of this village. From the very start, exquisite care is given to every detail; an obsession for creating the best product by using only the best materials, craftsmanship and suppliers. Meticulous quality control measures have been implemented in each of the manufacturing processes, and all clothing is produced locally. Initially, the designs and patterns are created in the Irura plant. These are then used in the Castejon (Navarra) plant to produce the garments. The skilled staff are extremely proud of what the company represents, and this pride is shown in

the high standard and quality of their work. It is therefore easy to understand how ETXEONDO is a current leader in clothing for cyclists, and known worldwide as a synonym of high quality. Etxeondo is available in over 30 countries and is continuing to grow at a constant rate. At ETXEONDO we are proud to continue being the sponsor of some of the best professional cycling teams in the history of the sport. COMPANY EXTRAORDINARY QUALITY By Maria Jesús Uranga – Designer Since 1976, at Etxeondo we have focused on making the best product for the most demanding cyclists. Our continuous commitment to developing new fibres and fabrics and our effort to achieve the best possible fit is key to ensuring the highest level of comfort for cyclists and our products’ unparalleled durability. Many cyclists, whether professionals or enthusiasts, suffer to some extent from chafing and sores that affect primarily the crotch and buttocks. Often a seemingly minor injury can lead to something much worse, causing much more serious problems such as: cysts, boils, perineal pain, fibrous hypodermatitis, ischial bursitis, etc. These conditions can be largely prevented by using high-quality technical clothing appropriate for each specific purpose. Although using a particular garment does not mean that you will never suffer from any of the above conditions, an enormous difference can

be seen between using technologically designed clothes and using their “normal” counterpart just because it is cheaper According to the results of numerous tests, Etxeondo is one of the few brands offering instant extraordinary quality. Why are padding, good straps, wrinkle-free, skintight clothes and breathable fabric so important? So many questions in one! When wearing clothing that does not fit well, when a person gets off a bike after having ridden for an hour he or she could have a small sore that could lead to something much more serious. Just a short bike ride is certainly enough for wrinkles to cause chafing due to movement. You don’t need to ride for hours to experience this problem. We can say that for the entire range of Etxeondo products, we focus on making the design and cut fit perfectly to all shapes and sizes. What do I mean by this? These days many brands are poorly sized given they tend to cut their designs too large and

therefore the more you use the clothes the larger they fit you; and, not wanting to admit that they are too big, we make the mistake of continuing to use them with the discomfort and problems that this implies. We think: “well, now that I bought them, how can I just throw them away?” Then when going on a bike ride with friends, we notice that ourshorts and jerseys are always moving around, that they don’t fit snugly on the body, and that we feel uncomfortable, which can even imply having a greater chance of having an accident. Usually paying just a bit more can mean forgetting about problems, riding your bikemore comfortablyand without hurting yourself, and as a result being able to have fun while enjoying your passion for biking.

COMPANY CRAFSTMANSHIP Since our beginnings in 1976, Etxeondo has made clothing for cyclists who demand the highest quality, an excellent fit and an exclusive style. At our factory in Irura, a municipality near San Sebastián (Basque region in the north of Spain famous for its love and passion for cycling) we prepare the patterns with the greatest of care and craftsmanship. The product is sewn in Castejón, in the municipality of Navarra, another region with a significant cycling tradition and the home of the great Miguel Indurain. From start to finish, everything is made in Spain, under strict quality control measures. Our passion for cycling is represented in our work. Each piece of Etxeondo clothing is made with the utmost care and attention to detail. The

craftsmanship dedicated to each pair of shorts, jacket or jersey is unprecedented in the world of cycling. As technology advances, it is essential to use the best materials and methods available, but it is imperative to keep the experience of the top level professionals to create the perfect product. In addition, any final adjustments, and all final touches are made by hand in order to create the ideal garment. It is as if we were talking about a top gourmet chef; one must mix the best ingredients, experiment with them and taste until achieving an exquisite recipe. That’s what we do at Etxeondo. Professionalism and many years of experience and enthusiasm are the necessary ingredients to develop the best menu to offer our customers.

ATTENTION TO THE DETAIL We are obsessed with everything down to the last detail. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s not enough for the clothes to fit well; they have to fit perfectly. Complete comfort, perfect fit and high performance in addition to their attractive style and exclusive design are the ingredients of Etxeondo clothing. Nothing must be left to chance. It is important to scale the size of each piece of fabric according to the size of the garment. Each piece performs its function as part of the garment and therefore must be exactly proportional according to its size. Like in Tetris, models are arranged in such a way that the greatest amount of fabric possible is used. The percentage of fabric used therefore ranges from 60% to 80%, taking advantage of it as much as possible.

Our printed patterns, embroidery, zippers, thread and seams, and absolutely everything, are studied meticulously in order to produce a garment that combines attractive design with high performance. Although it may seem unimportant, elasticity or tautness can change according to the direction of the cut. It is therefore important to make this information clear in the computerized model. Even bright and reflective colours are treated with great care to give the garment an element of safety without sacrificing its style.

11 GORETEX. A high-performance fabric that is guaranteed waterproof. Designed for greater durability, GORETEX products have lasting resistance to wind and water in addition to being highly breathable. Their membrane is extremely fine and light. At Etxeondo we have designed our seams with a thermal treatment specifically for comfort and a more lightweight feel. Clothes remain totally waterproof even after prolonged use.Ç

WINDSTOPPER. Windstopper products keep you warm, comfortable and protected under a wide variety of weather conditions. Windstopper combines absolute wind protection with exceptional breathability for comfort with fewer layers of clothes and less volume on the bicycle. Windstopper garments block the wind and reduce sensibility to extreme temperatures.

THERMOLITE.Thermolite fabrics provide warmth and comfort. They are a light form of insulation that allows you to keep warm when it is cold outside and it has excellent properties that remove moisture from the skin. Thermolite fabrics create an insulating layer of warm air between the fabric and the skin. Sweat is absorbed from the skin by the fabric thanks to its breathability.

TEJIDO DE FIBRA DE CARBONO. Its special conductive fibres absorb and dissipate the electrical charge produced during physical activity. These special fibres help to evaporate sweat in order to keep skin dry. They protect against bacteria and contaminating dust, thus reducing the risk of allergies. Given the compressive nature of this fabric, it reduces lactic acid build-up and improves blood circulation during activity. KETAREN.Ketaren is a fabric that provides warmth and comfort without adding too much weight. It allows for greater freedom of movement due to this fabric’s elastic properties. Its larger surface area allows for faster evaporation, taking moisture from the skin to the fabric’s surface. KETAREN

LYCRA SUPPLEX.A high performance brand fibre, soft like cotton but very long-lasting and resistant to abrasion and tears. Lycra has great elasticity and returns to its original shape in order to allow for tighter fit, more comfort and better performance. The Supplex material is very breathable, which keeps you fresh and dry and dries quickly for greater comfort. It keeps its shape wash after wash.

FIBRA MERYL. This fibre works well on garments designed for an active lifestyle. The Meryl fabric is a new complete system of innovative resistant fibres that provide protection and weigh very little. They are designed to dry quickly and to provide exceptional comfort during any athletic activity.

Xtra LIFE LYCRA. This quality fabric is long-lasting and keeps its shape well. In addition, it eliminates the problems caused by sweat. Its Xtra Life LYCRA® fibre noticeably improves a garment’s performance and lifespan. Chemical agents such as chlorine quickly deteriorate fibres and fabrics, but Xtra Life LYCRA® is 5 to 10 times more resistant to their effects than conventional elastane, meaning clothes maintain their shape much longer.

COOL MAX. This fabric has excellent moisture control properties and it dries faster than comparable fabrics. It has been proven to lower one’s skin temperature and heart rate. Cooling the skin and absorbing sweat make the rider more comfortable and make this a high-performance product.

OUTLAST. Outlast materials will make you more comfortable as they absorb and release excess body heat when you need it most. They provide warmth without adding volume while balancing the rider’s body temperature to prevent overheating. They protect against extreme temperatures and adapt to your thermal needs. The bottom line: less sweat and more comfort.

MEN´S / CHAMOIS CARBONO This multi-layer chamois provides optimal comfort and protection. • High quality elastic chamois made from various densities of indented memory foam, which helps to distribute weight equally on the seat. • High-density, highly elastic multi-thickness foam which allows the chamois to move with the body, thus minimizing chafing and friction. Excellent shock absorption properties. • Carbon blended microfibre fabric that reduces friction and improves moisture control. URRAKI. Dark clouds wake us on another cold winter day. Upon opening the window, the saltpetre smell of the Bay of Biscay strikes us in the face while the thermometer reminds us that we need to put on warmer clothes. The sun begins to rise and a soft rain drizzles over the still deserted streets. It’s the sirimiri, that rain so characteristic of Basque Country that creates the lush green mountainous landscapes. A cycling paradise where one can get lost on a bike for its capricious and playful roads. A land that has given birth to some of the greatest cyclists, who have given so much joy to their passionate supporters-the same passion that stirs in the hearts of her people in everyday life. We arrive early to work. The logo’s light stands out above the company office. Our second home, our second family. Meetings, ideas, projects, patterns…passionate minds continuously bubbling, obsessed with perfection and the smallest details. This is the day to day at ETXEONDO. The aroma of coffee offers us a relaxing moment, only to return to work with more force. Hours seem like minutes... minutes like seconds. Time flies and there is much to be done. Each person has a role, and everything must be completely coordinated. There are moments of concentration, moments of hard work, but always with the assurance that it will be rewarded. The reward is accomplishing the desired product- a job that we will feel proud of. It’s midday. Time to relax the mind and activate the legs. The bikes are waiting for us. The sun doesn’t appear overly excited to accompany us,

so we have to choose well. A light breeze blows, amplifying the sense of cold, although it doesn’t appear overly punishing. Decided. We put on our gear and take advantage of performing our small field tests. We take off at a lively pace warming our legs before heading into a demanding ascent. The surroundings offer us infinite possibilities. Roads that delight in forming curves, while aggressively gaining altitude to reach small rural towns where one can breathe easier. Perfect terrain to enjoy our hobby in good company and, every once in a while, why not put out skills to the test and play with the roads, experimenting all our potential against our colleagues. Upon reaching the top, there will be time for laughing again. Today we want to see the sea. Although not very far away, we have to overcome some altitude. The small cog is our faithful squire as we cross the Basque mountain. We leave behind our leafy forests and green cultivated fields presided over by ancient hamlets.

From the balcony formed by the road, we see the raging sea which crashes against the cliffs. A beautiful view we’d like to be part of forever, but we have to get back. Another serpentine road takes us back to the beginning of the route, arriving with just enough time to take a refreshing shower and get a snack before returning to the tasks at hand. Our heads are clear, our legs sore and our product well tested. Mission accomplished. Now we’re ready to attack the afternoon with renewed energy. New meetings, new ideas, new projects, new patterns…concentration, attention to detail and obsession for work well done takes over our minds once again.

It’s time to rest. Tired, but satisfied with the tasks completed, we say farewell until tomorrow, until another day in the life at Etxeondo. It’s time to share time with family and friends. In the most extreme conditions, we can take advantage of the adjustable Thermolite hood, an extremely lightweight material but with incredible protections against the cold. KAS TEAM Over the decade of the ‘50s, Spanish cycling enjoyed the enthusiasm of the masses, lauding genuine heroes, such as Poblet, Martin Bahamontes, Loroño…who shone brightly in the most important races worldwide. The brothers Knörr, owners of KAS Refreshment Company and cycling enthusiasts, discovered a great way to promote their company through this sport and decided to sponsor a new team project that was emerging in Spain. So amid this public fervour, the new KAS team was born in Victoria in 1958. The first era of the team lasted until 1979. There were very successful years, reaped by many in the workforce, such as Bahamontes, Gabica, Julio Jiménez, Karmany, Pérez Francés, Gandarias, López Carril, Galdós, Pesarrodona, Perurena, Fuente, Lasa…and many others, along with many team triumphs, demonstrating the potential of this squad, seen as one of the most acclaimed within international pelotons.

In 1979, the team suffered a major transformation, moving their headquarters to Belgium and forming two side-by-side teams: one Belgian, captained by Van Impe and Criquelion and another Spanish team captained by Galdós and Juan Fernández. Although there were a few triumphs, after 21 consecutive years at the end of the season, KASs sponsorship came to an end. The withdrawal of the prestigious refreshment company left a bitter taste left in the mouths of the fans until 1985, when they returned as the third sponsor of the French team SKILL, counting among its ranks the great Sean Kelly.

In 1986, only one year later, the company took the reins again as the principle sponsor.It was to be a period of great successes, headed by the Irish cyclist, who lead the team to their greatest heights in the most prestigious races such as Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, Paris-Nice or Vuelta a España, but sadly, this journey didn’t have much continuity and in 1988, KASs owner and loyal cycling enthusiast passed on.

It was in this second period that ETXEONDO joined the team as equipment supplier. For some time now, this brand had been making the best cycling clothes for the best cyclists, such as Delgado, Indurain, Lejarreta…and those in charge of the teams, conscientious of this, came to the agreement that from that moment, KAS and ETXEONDO would go hand-in-hand.

Triumphs were not long in coming with the victory of French rider Patrice Esnault in the 4th stage of the Tour del Mediterráneo; from then on commenced a glorious three-year period (1986-1988) when, captained by Kelly and well escorted by great cyclists, such as Iñaki Gastón, Jean Luc Vanderbroucke, Acacio Da Silva, Stephen Hodge or the young Peio Ruiz Cabestany, among others, they reached the greatest heights.
