Boomerang Bags finalist in Biosphere Awards

Boomerang Bags Noosa has been selected as a finalist in the Sustainable Business of the Year Award at this year’s Noosa Biosphere Awards.

The small group is made up of passionate volunteers who sew sustainable, reusable bags from post-consumer fabric. Using donated fabrics from individuals, unused off cuts from upholsterers and unneeded fabrics from op shops they produce around 150 reusable shopping bags each week for various Noosa shops and businesses. Printing on the bags is done in-house and nothing is wasted, even threads and offcuts are recycled to create footstools. The group also supplies bulk orders for special events.

The large Ironman 70.3 event banners are upcycled into bags to be used for next year’s event using the ribbons of unclaimed medals for handles. Bendigo Bank marquees with old branding were recycled into beach bags for their customers. Other merchandise includes cross-body bags, bags for Containers for Change bottles and cans, yoga mat bags and footstools.

Over the last 9 years, tonnes of unwanted fabrics have been diverted from landfill. Boomerang Bags don’t cost the earth!

Winners will be announced on 6 November.
