Modern social media is structured in such a manner that we are compelled to compete with one another, or even with ourselves. We are always striving to meet the objectives that are not exactly relevant, and to always attempt to further ourselves to meet societal standards.
“Overworking ourselves without giving ourselves a break or a treat is extremely unhealthy, as everyone needs time to reset and refresh. ” Coping mechanisms are the strategies many often use in the face of stress and/or trauma to help manage painful or difficult emotions.
They can help people adjust to stressful events while helping them maintain emotional well-being. Especially for younger generations, maintaining a school-life balance is a difficult task. That is why certain practices such as mindfulness, a healthy coping mechanism, and instances of relaxing activities may help relieve stress.
Certain stigmas arising around social media in recent times such as romanticizing certain mental issues, and glorifying the struggles of going through a stressful and traumatic experience, have been made common on social media. This phenomenon, according to Ms. Amalia, should be prevented through education.
