Who are school counselors? They are professional or licensed educators who implement guidance and counseling programs in school to increase the students chances of success. In our school, we have Ms Arianne as our beloved school counselor. To have a better understanding of what she does, we did an interview with her.
When she was a secondary student at a public school, her school counselor not only did counselling, but also teaching and other work. So the counselor could not really focus on doing his/her actual job. Ms Arianne thus become motivated to be a school counselor and concentrate on doing that well. “I want to be a school counselor with a master's degree in psychology, ” she said to herself. And now, here she is with her dream coming true.
Counseling for her is a great tool to help people. In the field of psychology, there are so many different practices and methods, and counseling is one of the most common methods that is used.
Ms Arianne’s goal is to just simply help as many people as she can, especially in the educational field since we often look on the issues and problems that the young generation is facing. She feels grateful when doing her job that our generation is already so open about mental health issues.
She believes that to overcome stress, everyone is different. From Ms Arianne’s perspective, she has a way to minimize her stress, but it won’t work with everyone else. Stress comes a lot from social media, so Ms Arriane has logged out from all of her social media accounts since they impacted her so much.
“I’ve detoxed myself from Instagram, its already 2 months since I’ve signed in. ” Knowing what we can control and what we can’t control could also help us to minimize our stress.
When it comes to time management, Ms Arianne explained that we can’t completely balance both our work time and personal time. For her, balance means doing what she needs to do in her job, but also making time for her personal life. How she balances her life is also a priority.
A top tip from Ms Arianne for those us who are facing difficult times is to talk to someone about the issue or problem, know what we want and what we need, and find help. We need to do what it works for us. And we should be kind to ourselves since in such times; it may seem a small thing for other people, but it’s a big war for us.
