SURAT EDITOR

Caroline Falisha F.C.

Written by Daniella Renatta Citra In this issue of Eunoia, we included an assortment of sanguine, love-themed articles, recipes, reports, and (much to the satisfaction of many readers) pickup lines. We have featured many organizations dedicated to bettering the world such as Kotak Aksara, Dose Project, and Cntadri, along with an array of regular content in our publication. For all the picture-perfect representations of social media relations, it is convenient for people to believe like their real-life romances are not up to all these romantic dreams. In reality, love is caring through good and bad, through hard times and triumphant moments. With everyone being consumed by social media, caring for one another takes time and equanimity. This issue is not all about love for other people, but it is about love for our environment, mental health, ourselves, literacy, and our community. Love encompasses a range of strong and positive emotional and mental states, from the most sublime virtue or good habit, the deepest interpersonal affection, to the simplest pleasure. Its virtue, reflecting goodness, love, and empathy, as representing moral weakness, analogous to arrogance, selfishness, self-esteem, and egotism, as theoretically leading people to a kind of mania, addiction, or co-dependence. Scientific research on emotions has risen dramatically over the last two decades. The Colour Wheel Theory of Love distinguishes three primaries, three secondary and nine tertiary love forms, and explains them in terms of the conventional colour wheel. Triangular love theory suggests that "intimacy, passion and commitment" are the main components of love. This variety of interpretations, along with the ambiguity of the emotions involved, makes love exceptionally difficult to describe consistently relative to other emotional states. “Love is like a war: easy to begin but incredibly difficult to stop.” -H.L. Mencken

Cntadri is a non-profit and youth-led organization founded on the 31st of October 2020 by Daniella R.C, Charlene D.W, and Cornelius Rendy. We focus on helping those around Indonesia who are suffering from

during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Due to the current situation,

teenagers

adults

experience

financial and educational difficulties, thus causing an increase in self-ruin and depression.

Our goal is to inspire social media users so that they can learn to love and respect themselves for who they are.

We believe self-love is important because

it keeps people smiling during the darkest of times. As our actions and attitude influence those around us such as family members and friends, self-hatred can deeply change a person’s life especially to those around them.

Cntadri was started as a small group, consisting of three people. It was originally made to campaign for our

Back in December, my friends and I founded the Dose Project. We constantly had the thought of starting a project to raise awareness, and our CBRC (character building) project gave us a chance to turn this idea into reality. After several hours of exchanging ideas, we finally came up with the name ‘The Dose Project’. As our central focus is to spread mental health awareness, Dose comes from the phrase ‘your daily dose of serotonin.’ With extensive research, we came to fruition that it stands for the happy chemicals in our brain — dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. Dose Project is a youth-led online space dedicated to spreading mental health awareness. We aim to enlighten and reach as many people as possible regarding the importance of maintaining good mental health and wellbeing. We aspire to change the mindsets of those who do not prioritize their mental health above all. Lastly, our sole purpose is to make the conversation less taboo so people can reach out and get the help that they need. Other than spreading mental health awareness, Nares (a member of the Dose Project) also suggested that we should bring current issues into discussions. Instead of only focusing on the topic of mental health and wellbeing, we would be exploring other topics of race, culture, activism, art, and education among others. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, my team and I believe that taking care of our mental health is extremely essential. Moreover, our content isn’t only limited in the area of prioritizing our mental health, but also to give some hopefully effective tips to our readers.

Being in quarantine, we all had to adjust to this new life. From home-based learning to lockdowns, we all had to go through a major change in our daily habits. Our audience is mainly targeted towards teenagers to young adults. People of older ages may also experience struggles in their mental health, however, some adolescents are at greater risk of mental health conditions. As students, we understand how all the stress and pressure from school and our social life can affect our mental health. We can’t help the way things go, and can only let it go with the flow. However, in some cases, it is crucial for us to understand what we might be going through. The state of our mental health can also be linked to certain complications in life – it affects how we think, feel, and ultimately, the way we act. By being more open in discussing mental health conditions, it encourages more people to try and seek professional help. One of our main goals is to make Dose Project a safe place for anyone to share their feelings; whether it would be improving relationships or venting about anything at all, we would gladly break the stigma out of something that impacts us. For now, we don’t really see ourselves doing anything big in the future yet. If our team could continuously balance our school work with Dose Project, we won’t see any problem continuing it for a longer period of time. If possible, we would want to explore certain topics that haven’t been brought to discussion on our page yet. We also hope to have the opportunity to lead a conversation regarding a certain issue, or even having the chance to interview inspiring young activists who aim to make a change in the world. Although we just recently started the Dose Project, we genuinely hope that it will have a great impact on those who need to hear it. Over the course of the pandemic, we think that Dose is a great way to spread positivity. As teenagers, we understand how mental health is under-prioritized these days. Through the content we produce, we aim to make changes by incorporating different voices and perspectives of our team during the process. We sincerely hope that Dose will be an inclusive and equitable environment, such that it could be a safe space for anyone.

News curated by Elsey Djaparily Adversities in Indonesia Over the past few months, several incidents have occurred in Indonesia. Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 was a scheduled flight from Jakarta to Pontianak. On January 9th, 2021, the flight transporting 62 people lost contact after taking off. After days of investigation, it was announced that the plane crashed into the Java Sea shortly after take-off. On the 21st of January, the search of any survivors was discontinued, with all passengers presumed dead. Recently on the 6th of February, extreme rainfall caused flash floods in Semarang. According to The Jakarta Post, it was estimated that Jakarta and its surrounding areas will still be in the peak of the rainy season until early March. Since numerous parts of Indonesia are especially prone to natural disasters, several other disasters have also been triggered by massive floods. Although the flooding has subsided, several areas continues to be affected by the rainy season. As the death toll rose to 28 in Sumedang on the 17th of January, 12 bodies remained missing Covid-19 pandemic As virus mutations accumulate in an unfolding pandemic, scientists announced that a new variant known as B.1.1.7, first detected in Britain, is likely to be deadlier than the original virus. The variant has spread to at least 82 countries and is being transmitted 35 to 45 percent more easily. However, the certainty of its lethality isn't 100% guaranteed as the British government scientist purportedly relied on studies that only examined a small portion of overall deaths. Yet, this equivocation should be taken seriously as the UK coronavirus variant is capable of impacting the epidemic curve and lead to more restrictions in Europe if it becomes the dominant strain, a World Health Organisation official warned. Fortunately, in response to this turmoil, vaccine distribution is starting to show progress as 172 million doses have been administered across 77 countries with the latest rate at roughly 5.92 million doses per day. Update on Donald Trump’s Impeachment Due to the recent Capitol riot, the ex-president of the United States, Donald Trump, has made history as he became the first US President to be impeached twice. On the 13th of January, the US House of Representatives voted 232 to 197 to impeach Trump for an unprecedented second time. He was accused of "incitement of insurrection" after his supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to overturn November's election result following his speech. But Trump's team has claimed that his speech did not amount to a call to storm the Capitol, as he was simply exercising his First Amendment rights, and his trial is unconstitutional because he has left office. Trump once again avoided conviction by the US Senate because his fellow Republicans, by and large, stuck by his side. The final tally was 57-43, which left the prosecution 10 short of the two-thirds majority required.

y Chan and Caroline Falisha F.C. Myanmar military coup and protest Myanmar, also known as Burma, has been threatened by political instability ever since independence was declared in 1948. Recently, the military is back in charge after announcing a year-long state of emergency. Once Ms. Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) party won the general election, the opposition claimed the voting had widespread fraud. The 2021 Myanmar coup d'état then began on the 1st of February. The president and state counsellor were put under house arrest, and most of the NLD officials have also been detained. The Burmese have not been taking it well; as protestors continue to take it to the streets. According to the UN human rights office, approximately 18 people were killed by police fires during the protest on the 28th of February. Furthermore, the Burmese have been enduring police brutality — with unlawful use of water cannon against protestors. Today, activists continue to hold rallies in support of the Myanmar protestors. Indian farmers protest For several months, farmers in India have been protesting against the new farm bills, which have heavily impacted their lives. The farmers are demanding the Prime Minister repeal the three new acts, which generally minimizes the government's role in agricultural aspects. Although the government mentioned that the new bills would bring growth to the farmers and investments, they remain skeptical, as they fear the state protections will be even more insufficient for them. As time went by, this protest gradually became violent. Despite the Covid-19 outbreak in India, thousands of protesting farmers gathered without masks. Some farmers used tractors to dismantle the police barricades, while others carried large weapons, causing chaos during a supposedly peaceful protest. Protests in Russia A well-known anti-corruption campaigner, Alexei Navalny, was imprisoned on his recent return to Russia after recovering from an attempt to kill him with a nerve agent. He was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, in what is widely seen as an attempt by the Kremlin to silence him. The renowned Kremlin critic's arrest has induced an outrage across the country and resulted in around 4,002 people being apprehended. The rallies were proven to be unprecedented in their spread, covering towns and cities usually seen as politically "passive". Most of the protestors were motivated by Navalny's latest video exposé: a corruption investigation targeting President Vladimir Putin. The video claimed that Mr. Putin had a secret, opulent palace built for him on the Black Sea, complete with an aqua-disco and pole-dancing salon. In response to the film, Putin denied any link to the giant property in Gelendzhik, calling it a poor montage meant to brainwash people.

1. Get enough sleep: Staring at the screen for seven hours each day non-stop is going to take a toll on your eyes, so getting enough sleep, like eight hours each night, is beneficial to your physical and mental health.

2. Stay connected with your family or friends: Start a Zoom call, Teams meeting, or a Discord server, and invite your relatives or friends to talk about things. It helps by reducing the loneliness that commonly comes in this pandemic. 3. Look for opportunities to laugh: Laughing decreases your stress and helps you feel better after a long day of looking at the teacher through the screen. eunoia - 20

4. Take a walk outdoors: Boredom is a major problem in this pandemic. No one wants to sit in their room 24 hours each day, 7 days each week, doing nothing but online school and maybe playing games, so taking a walk outdoors after school will help you ease your bout of boredom. Of course, if you go outdoors, always remember your mask and hand sanitizer. 5. Listen to music and create a playlist: Music can help alleviate the boredom and loneliness commonly associated with staying at home during the pandemic. Listening to music, especially ones that you like, acts as a stress reliever and boosts your morale. After you listening and finding music you like, create a playlist to save those songs for future listening. eunoia -21

Kisah Cinta yang Menorehkan Tinta Emas dalam Sejarah Oleh Caroline Falisha F.C.

Cinta.

Valentine's Day, also called “the day of love”, a holiday when lovers demonstrate their affection with greetings and presents. To many, Valentine’s Day may be a day to present gifts and chocolates to loved ones, but to others, it may be an opportunity to embrace themselves.
