editor's letter Ah, friendship…A comradeship between compadres, fun times shared between amigos, and a camaraderie possibly started by an idiotic fight over a light blue, tulle dress from the costume closet in kindergarten. It is incredibly hard to find genuine friendship nowadays, but the ones you do find will last for eternity (or at least until you gradually lose contact with them throughout college and lose each other’s phone numbers and resort to using direct messages on Instagram as your only form of communication and only physically see each other during alumni get-togethers). Friendship for most people is a combination of affection, loyalty, love, respect, and trust. True friendship is when someone knows you better than yourself and is always in for your best interests. Friendship goes beyond just sharing time together, and it is long-lasting in most cases (yow that was sappy).
Great friends always show up, you never need to beg for their help, they can easily empathize, they offer kind words whenever you're down, they're loyal, and they're objective listeners. A true friend always wants you to be happy—and they'll go out of their way to make it so. From taking cursed pictures on a laptop photobooth app when the teacher is outside, to primary school 17 Agustus tug-of-war games, good friends are who you will always share your great times with. So why is friendship so important if not to force your friends to Gojek you MacDonalds at 12 AM? Having friends helps us deal with stress, make better lifestyle choices that keep us strong, and allow us to rebound from health issues and disease much quickly. Friendship is equally important to our mental health. One study even suggested spending time with positive friends changes our outlook on life for the better. Friendships improve our social and life skills and teach us how to interact with the world. The friends you have in life to provide great life experiences to train you for the future (a job school has not done very well…I’m joking. Sorry teachers, I really do value my education more than anything, wink wink). Throughout my middle-school life thus far, the most memorable times were when I spent them with my friends. I thoroughly enjoy doing completely silly things with them: getting stuck in a dark, spider-infested closet, getting first-degree sunburns from extreme chlorine exposure, dressing up in costumes during UN day, and having our feet pinched by crabs in the middle of a muddy mangrove forest. "Having someone in our life who thinks we are important -- someone who wants our opinion on things and who values our company -- makes us feel wanted, boosting self-esteem," says psychologist, Professor Bellegham. In this issue of eunoia, we feature numerous interesting pieces on friendship and how it plays out in our lives. Friendship-themed art pieces, an interview with Eunoia’s founders and how a friendship fueled the founding of our beloved school magazine. In the spirit of friendship, our team sincerely hopes our readers will enjoy this special issue. Daniella Renatta Citra

The first encounter between Alexa and Tabina was during seventh grade at Global Sevilla Puri Indah. Tabina recalled her impression of Alexa as a friendly and intelligent person. To Alexa, mutual sincerity and respect are qualities she appreciates in her friends. There is no single formula that applies to all friendships, and her relationship with each of her friends are different. Everyone has a different love language, so someone eventually becomes special to her when they communicate in their love language. Interactions are especially meaningful when they try to translate their preferred love language into hers. As for Tabina, each one of her friends possesses various unique qualities that she admires. However, those who are willing to listen or talk to her are exceptionally special to her. She also enjoys being around people with a great sense of humour — another reason why she gets along with Alexa so well. One quality Tabina’s friends share in common is that they are always there for her, which is incredibly meaningful to her. Throughout her high school years, whenever Tabina is feeling pressured or disheartened, her friends are would always be so supportive and comfort her through tough times. According to Tabina, these friends mean a lot to her, including Alexa. Being friends for years, Alexa and Tabina have constantly gone through ups and downs, and they both have memories that they cherish a lot up until this day. “If I had to choose one, it would probably be the time Tabina and I accompanied Sherleen to the clinic and all three of us ended up laughing and eating brownies,” Alexa mentioned. One of Tabina’s favourite moments with Alexa was sitting down and chatting about the little things going on, from their favourite K-Pop idols to the problems they’re facing. Both Alexa and Tabina enjoyed the making of Eunoia, as well as publishing issues — Eunoia is basically their love child. Alexa and Tabina have been envisioning a bilingual student-run school magazine for the longest time until they finally got the opportunity to turn the idea into reality. The two have always been into writing and art, and the ideation of Eunoia was organic as they got to know each other over the years. After having the opportunity to work in the OSIS journalistic and publishing department once again, the duo published Eunoia’s first issue, with the help and guidance of Ms Nela, the OSIS advisor. Aiming to showcase students’ interests and talents, Eunoia helped students develop new skills, as well as showcasing students’ potential. To some, Eunoia may just be a student council program, but it holds great significance to Alexa and Tabina, considering the fact that they’ve been visualizing a school magazine for so long.

eunoia-10
Although Alexa and Tabina did not get along so well at first, their similar tastes and interests eventually drew them together. Having spent so much time together, the two had a privilege that not many partners have when starting a project. Although there were several conflicts Alexa and Tabina encountered— mainly creative disagreements—they were easy to overcome due to their years of friendship, transparency, and willingness to compromise. As the two matured throughout the years, they rarely argued. Even though there were times when Alexa and Tabina had disagreements about Eunoia, they did not want to let that negativity affect their friendship, and eventually found the solutions. Knowing each other’s skills and strengths, Alexa and Tabina learned how to execute Eunoia’s work in the best way. "If Alexa and I were never friends, Eunoia would probably not be what it is today,” said Tabina. Their friendship has certainly impacted Eunoia, and even so, they were always able to separate work from their friendship. Speaking from experience, Alexa maintains her particularly essential to maintain a productive friendship by having mutual sincerity and being perceptive. You have to willingly try to understand each other. Learn to listen and compromise, learn to read each other’s energies, and learn to respect each other’s boundaries and differences. “We all have our responsibilities now, and no amount of distance, missed calls, unanswered text messages, or forgotten birthday wishes will make our friendship any less valid,” Alexa said. In Tabina’s opinion, the key to friendships is to understand each other through communication. Being open with each other and always listening to each other is particularly essential to maintain a healthy, valuable, and long-lasting friendship. Furthermore, the lack of understanding and communication between friends would eventually lead to unwanted problems and conflicts. What draws the line between friendship and acquaintanceship? What draws the line between friendship and love? What draws the line between a friend and an enemy? At the end of the day, “friendship” is just another label that we use for human connection, and what do you think the world would be like without human connection? A friendship does not necessarily need to have an impact on the world, it could just be a personal relationship between your circle of friends. Something good could still bloom out of the friendship, something that may change the world even just by a little. Healthy friendships do not need to impact the world, but they will always be making the world a more positive place. “Being alone does not equate to feeling alone. Know the difference,” Alexa said. "What’s stopping you from making more friends?" As said by Tabina, we should cherish and enjoy the friendships we have, and make the best out of them. Every friendship differs, but your friends will always give you the strength that you need. "Always check on your friends. Be there for them when they need support, when they need a shoulder to cry on, and when they need someone to listen to their stories," Tabina mentioned.

/fren(d)SHip/ Written by Elsey Djaparily Chan
We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided,- Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Friendship — it is a simple yet intriguing topic. Some of our closest friends could be the ones we went to preschool with, or it could be those we randomly met on the streets. No matter how long you've known your friends, they are just like the family that you choose. At a point in some friendships, people tend to lose friends and may even find new friends. Friendship may not be the most essential thing in your life, but it is more important than you realise. The key to every friendship is trust. True friendship is having the ability to count on each other, and with that comes honesty. Having a trustworthy friend allows you to feel comfortable to confide in them or talk to them about your concerns. They will support you when you're lonely; they will cheer you up when you feel down, and they will give you advice when you feel troubled. "Still, at least we've got each other," Tewksbury said, quoted from the movie Enola Holmes. Having a friend that listens to you willingly and assists you through distressing times can make you see things from a different perspective. Real friends are your shadows and mirrors; they will never leave us when we're alone, and they won't lie about anything. Every simple thing you do with your friends may seem like nothing; but when you think of it, those memories in life are what keep you going. True friends want you to be contented and will go all the way to do so. As they try their best for you to have more positive outcomes in life. To some, a friend is just their companion or an acquaintance, but they are the ones who pull you away from loneliness and depression. Having no friend for you to confide in causes people to feel so alone, that they start being depressed, having a lack of confidence and self-esteem, as well as social isolation. At some stages in life, you might need to share or express your feelings to a friend, which you won’t be able to do with a family member. It has also been proven that peer evaluation could be more effective compared to parenting. People of various ages usually view things differently, and those around your age would most likely understand and relate to you more. In conclusion, one must experience friendship in all aspects of their life. A close friend can soothe you, satisfy you, and relieve your stress. Furthermore, developing close friendships impacts both our mental and physical health. Without realising it, our friends are the ones facilitating us to make better lifestyle choices. Would you prefer going through challenging times by yourself or having someone to encourage you? It is not always necessary for people to have friends, nonetheless, it is always delightful to have someone around who truly understands you for who you are.

Modern Family Written by Daniella Renatta Citra
Modern Family – a favourite in the sitcom universe, a classic in the comedic world, a comical interpretation of a seemingly mundane, modern family. Modern Family shows the everyday lives of 3 related families. There's Jay (Ed O'Neill) and his second, youthful wife, Gloria (Sofia Vergara), and her son, Manny (Rico Rodriguez). Jay's grown daughter, Claire (Julie Bowen), lives with her husband, Phil (Ty Burrell), and is a full-time mother to their 3 teens. Claire's brother, Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), and his partner, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet), are raising their adopted daughter, Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) of Vietnamese origin. The series documents the ups and downs of parenting, marriage, and complicated relationships between relatives. Later seasons portray various obstacles encountered by typical families including Claire and Phil's oldest daughter leaving for college, Mitchell and Cameron’s attempts in adopting another child, and Jay and Gloria’s unexpected pregnancy. This show is professionally scripted, the cast is outstanding, the evolution of every character is a thing of beauty, and it does not shy away from a unique perspective to family life. Since its debut in 2009, Modern Family has been showered with many an accolade. It's not always an easy job in a sitcom to merge together the good times and bad times, but this series never disappoints and always ends on a heartwarming note that represents the beautiful imperfection of family ties. Unlike many other shows, Modern Family is a completely relatable TV show. The producers and screenwriters turn completely normal problems into hilarious television embellished with witty quips. A typical scenario in the show is when Luke, Alex, and Haley demand a pet dog from their parents, only for it to go horribly wrong. There are so many long pauses and direct stares toward the camera, highlighting the comical element of the scene and breaking the fourth wall between the characters and the audiences.

4.5 Stars on Rotten Tomatoes
eunoia-15
Throughout the series, the family can be seen enjoying their weekly dinners at grandpa Jay and Gloria’s house, discussing current events, and participating in petty disagreements that are particularly entertaining to spectate. Although there are often many disagreements between the family, they will always apologise to one another at the end, they will always accept one another no matter what, and that is something very admirable. The central Modern Family ensemble has a lot of amazing actors with 29 Emmy nominations (and six wins), but my favourite character will always be Phil, a master of pratfall, puns and poignant TV-dad love. Phil’s “dad jokes” perfectly compliment Claire’s uptight personality. Their differences in personalities make their parenting completely effective yet uproarious. The show brings multiple socially controversial topics to light such as the Black Lives Matter movement, the LGBTQQIA community, and the true history of Thanksgiving and its historical reputation for controversy. Not all television shows can bring varying perspectives into public view in such a way that the message is received by the audience, and is tremendously hilarious. Modern Family educates and informs viewers on current events, and that is something very rare to come by in sitcoms. Each character has a trait you can relate to, each storyline resonates with the audience. You'll be smiling and laughing way too hard by the end of the pilot. The storylines are so fresh and the characters are so lovable yet relatable. This show is witty, dry, clever, outlandish, dumb, sweet, sarcastic, subtle, not-so-subtle, and absolutely hilarious.

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is undoubtedly one of my favourite anime of all time. Its creative and brilliantly crafted storyline and in-depth world-building, coupled with some of the most memorable and lovable characters in anime, truly never fail to make me lose track of time. Every fleeting moment feels like an adventure in itself whenever I press play on an episode. This 148 episode adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s best-selling manga is a masterpiece that I can confidently say will not be forgotten.

When talking about Kakushigoto, it is an extremely underrated and underappreciated anime. The animating, storybuilding and intervals of the mood are perfect, allowing the viewer to enjoy the story from many aspects. I love Kakushi's secret of making comedic manga, and the concept of him hiding his career from his daughter creates a hilarious anime. There are some flash-forward scenes in the anime which increase the anticipation, mystery, and curiosity for the viewers. I hope readers of Eunoia and anime enthusiasts would consider watching this piece.

psari Suharno, Cornelius Putra Bagaskara A young teen who embarked on a long and exciting journey towards his path against destiny, going against all odds to achieve his goal no matter the challenge. I would highly recommend this anime just because the theme it is covering has such close parallels to what most teens are constantly pondering about. Are my dreams achievable? I too asked myself this question countless times and with this anime, I have found motivation. Watching Asta grow as he becomes more powerful, getting a step closer to his goal. Something I find very amazing in this anime is that not only each character’s power develops but their attitudes developed well too. We could see characters who was once cowardly turning into brave individuals in the battlefield, hooking me to keep on watching to see how each character unfolds. In a world that depends on magic, an orphan was born without a drop of it. Living on the edge of the kingdom in a place called the “forsaken realm”, young Asta lived out his childhood in a church orphanage. He lived out a simple life without worry. Until one day, Asta decided that he would go against all odds and pursue his dream to become the Magic King even though magic did not course through his blood.
To sum things up, this has been an amazing watch, one I would recommend especially when you begin to enter the “anime-world”. The apparent simplicity combined with the character development and animation of each battle scene will keep you on the edge of your seats. A show that had me glued to the screen for hours! A true masterpiece, 10/10 would recommend!

Growing up we must have chased dreams, some that seemed feasible and others that were more ambitious. Nevertheless, a dream is a dream and as teens, we need to grow with them. This anime reflects just that.

Heirloom Heirloom Heirloom Heirloom Heirloom Heirloom Written by Arthur, Candice, Manique, Deven, Dylan, Figo, Frans, Jaden, Valen, Sentosa, Daniella
It was the strangest thing I ever heard. And it was the last thing my uncle said before he died. I could not exactly listen to what my uncle said, but I know what he tried to tell me. It was about something I had never heard of, something very alien to me. I have a feeling that he wanted me to visit a house I had never heard of. He handed me a piece of parchment, and on it, I saw an address. It was quite a long journey, and I got lost one too many times for the house was in the middle of a dark forest. "Spooky," I thought to myself, "but I had to keep going." I kept hearing crunches of leaves and twigs, and with each one i heard, my heart skipped a beat. As I went on, it got darker and darker, the wolves were awakening. I ran as fast as I could to seek shelter. While running, I slipped and slid down a small hill, only to find an old, abandoned shed covered in leaves and cobwebs. Curious, I went in. I was perplexed at what I witnessed. Inside the shed was an old, rusted machine. It looked like an over-engineered compass; it was also pointing in the wrong direction. I followed the compass to an old mansion that my uncle described before he passed. The house was a white colonial, and its walls were inscribed with ornate details of various plants and murals of Greek gods and goddesses, a known interest of my uncle's. There was a massive grand staircase, a living room, and a room with four locks on its door.
eunoia-22
I tried to pry open the mysterious door using a rusty shoehorn but to no avail. I kicked the door open with all my might, and inside, I found the floor covered in corpses, their organs sprawled all over the room. With their limbs amputated, paralysed with looks of horror on their faces, drops of fresh blood landed on my yellow corduroy jacket, and as I looked at the ornate ceiling, I found more corpses, their necks still dangling on tightly knotted nooses. The smell of dried blood suffocated me as I stood there, mouth agape, wondering, what the hell did my uncle do?! I moved backwards, staring at the dead bodies. I asked myself, 'Is this real?" I was frightened, but I kept going. I passed all the dead bodies, and I started hurling. Unexpectedly, I heard an ear-splitting banging sound from the hallway. A chill ran down my spine. I slowly turned my head, and I couldn't believe what I saw. A tall, blood-curdling man wearing a classic black suit was standing and laughing hysterically across the hall. He was wearing a black mask, his slender figure loomed across the hallway and into the room, but his eyes seemed so familiar to me. Slowly, he approached me. He seemed to have lived here, or at least been here a lot, he knew exactly where each item was in the room even though only one bulb flickered its light across this room. I stood there frightened, my body was frozen as if his approach was hypnotizing me. His gaze lured me into a sense of paralyzed panic. His figure seemed to get much more prominent as he got closer, and I could just make out his face. He had a sharp chin, similar to my father's and eyes like ones of a lion. His glare penetrated my body as if he were inspecting me for something. He then grabbed his hair and pulled it off... It was a wig! Slowly his face was revealed, and at that moment, a moment of relief struck me. It was my dad! Just as the wig was off, he suddenly said, "Hey now, what's with that face?? You think I'm Marco? Hahaha did he never tell you about me? What about Jordan? Nothing?" I was now feeling the exact opposite I did before, I was shocked, thoughts raced through my mind, "How did he know my dad and uncle's name?! Why did he act like he knew them so well? Why did he look exactly like my dad?!"

Pain of reality Pain of reality Written by Brandon, Charlene, Derryl, Lina, Renziro, Jason, Rendy, Michael, Ravi, Tanisha I thought it was just a glitch on my computer. But that was yesterday before I discovered that an unknown source was tracking my vitals, somehow from my own house. I've searched throughout my home and haven't found a thing. There's a weird hole in my backyard, and where it came from, I have no idea. Something is moving, like an otherworldly being. The creature ran away. Hiding. It looked like a dog, but I was unsure. It ran towards a bush behind a shack. I followed it. I slowly peeled back the leaves that covered the figure and saw it staring at me. It didn't look like a dog. It looked like my deceased baby brother. The strange creature started to cry, and in the blink of an eye, someone began to help him. A tall wrinkly woman with straight, long white hair carried the strange looking ‘baby brother’ to the house. The woman played with the ‘baby brother’ to stop him from crying. Then, something large and bizarre started to materialise in front of the house. It prevented me from escaping back into my home. The house was peculiar. It was a small, one floor, brown-coloured house. When I looked at the woman who carried the baby, she seemed familiar…very familiar. I gasped in shock as I realised who it is. "She looked like grandma", I thought. I was beyond terrified when the woman glared towards me. I choked on my breath as she glowered, making eye contact as if she was seeing through my soul. Without hesitation, I began running. I kept running, and when I looked back, I saw nothing, but I felt that I was being watched. I felt the presence of death itself approaching me. The reaper's scythe was already upon me. I felt an inhuman existence. Although I wasn't sure what it was, I felt something crawling...something small. I slowly looked back with wondering eyes, scared of what was following me and I saw the baby, and the woman, but this time they had pitch-black eyes, bloody fingers that looked like it was from murder and in the background, I saw a dead body. It wasn't an ordinary corpse, it looked like a new murder, and it had been drained of its blood. The stench of blood filled the room. The creatures began running faster and faster, and it crept up on me. I turned to hide in the bathroom. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, envisioning my escape. Before I knew it, I was engulfed in darkness. A cold, frigid piercing presence enveloped me, and I fell deeper and deeper into the void, a dark and mysterious abyss.
eunoia-24
Suddenly, I woke up from that sight, to find myself in the corner of a broken-down room with my entire body tied with an extremely sturdy cable. I was held in place by some mysterious force, the wires held me tight and demonic children surrounded me. Chanting. Just as I was about to get my bearing of my surroundings, empty pale children with dark bottomless smiles laughed around me. With them, a woman somewhat looking in her mid-20s was also standing with a vacant smile; however, she didn't laugh. All she said repeatedly was I love you as if she was an unrelenting poison in my brain. With all these words and all these people, I figured that I must be dreaming, but when I tried to wake up, complete fear took over my body. Something was dragging me‌ a demonic thing that was so furious! I did not know where I was going, but I had to get out of there immediately before I reached the destination. I have never been so terrified before, so I struggled to escape, and finally, I was free. I ran as fast as I could until I saw a door. I thought it may be the exit, and I had to run faster. The hand behind me was trying to get me. Still, I managed to reach the door before it got me, and it was complete darkness and nothing else inside. I waited for I don't know how long. I heard footsteps, creeping, and other terrifying sounds. I was convinced that I was in hell, the place where I was being hunted by those devils. I had been on the run for God knows how long from those demons, so I was heavily exhausted. I looked behind me, and an army of children was still hunting me. " Give up, my prey! We predators will get our hands on your body" laughed all the children. Their laughs were too twisted and strange; they clearly were hungry for my flesh. Aside from their sharp and yellow teeth and bloody hands, my biggest concern was their eyes which were even darker and colder than Grandma's. Suddenly I saw a gun lying on the ground. I might finally be free. I ran towards it with the remaining strength I had. Into the darkness, trying to reach the gun I nearly tripped while running down. What would I find later on? I had no clue. Well, at least I had some hope for my life. I could hear shouts from those demonic kids getting louder and louder, terrorising me, while I imagined myself getting torn and eaten. My heart was pounding fast until I could feel it exploding like a bomb any moment. I could hear voices of devils starting to whisper unknown languages to my ears, as I felt my breath running out. I stumbled over something, and when I glanced back, I could see a small, black gun lying on the ground. Looking back, the little children were getting closer and closer with those blood painted spears. Without thinking, I cocked the gun as I pointed it, assuring my victory. I stood up. Looked back. And pulled the trigger... Bang! That was the sound that went into my ears... but to my surprise, the gun was actually empty. As I stood there in shock, the children leapt baring their razor blade fangs and the eyes of the underworld. I was crushed down to the ground, and my whole body was eaten by the hungry little demons. They reached my neck as I started to lose my breath. I woke up alone, somewhere. An object was rubbing up against my back and my arms, I was being restrained. I heard people walking towards me. I began screaming and thrashing until the belts restraining my arms snapped and cracked. The figures impeded me, I attempted with all my might to fight back. A massive spike pierces me, my energy drains, and I was once again put in restraints. My life restarts itself, every time, I die in that world, I suffer in this world as many times are there are stars in the universe. Denied the peace of freedom, rejected the blessing of death.

I NFINITE FOLDING
featuring Mr Yoh Prepare two pieces of square papers (minimum size 7 x 7 cm). Cut them into 4 pieces as seen from the picture. The paper used may be watercolour pad (200 – 260 gsm) or usual drawing paper.
1
2 Fold them into two and make sure it’s symmetrical, then fold again just like the image on the right. Repeat the process for all the remaining papers
Mark each corner with 'X'. Please notice that only 2 papers were marked. Leave the other two as they are. These ‘X’ marks will guide you in placing the double tape.
4 Place and open the double tape on every ‘X’ and make sure it is aligned with the positions as seen in the picture. It’s important to put two pieces of paper horizontally and vertically like the image above.

G 4-PANEL COMIC
hanes Tenggara
5 Take one paper oriented vertically and place its left uppermost and left lowermost corner on top of the X markings on the other two horizontal papers. Repeat the process for the second vertical paper which will be positioned on the right.
6
The final product should look like two rectangles oriented horizontally forming a square at the front, and two rectangles oriented vertically forming a square at the back. You can fill the first page with images and quotes to start the comic.
7 This part may get a little tricky. Open the rectangle by folding it upwards and downwards. Here we will see three vacant spaces you can insert your desired design. It is recommended that the upper and lower spaces be filled with a design which is related to the next panel as these particular spaces will still be visible once we move on to the next part of the comic

Make the last page simple, memorable and relatable to the rest of the panels.
Have fun crafting, students! Let your creativity flow

What's up world? Why do we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the USA instead of Columbus Day? The 12th of October isn’t a day to honour Christopher Columbus. Instead, it is to honour the culture, heritage, and resilience of Native American communities — and recognising indigenous people. What many of us do not realise was the fact that Christopher Columbus was partly responsible for the genocide of Native Americans, and stole North America which never was his to begin with. In reality, indigenous people were sold into slavery in their “discovered” land and were punished if they went against their new laws. Up until this day, indigenous minorities are discriminated against and treated unequally. Therefore, celebrating “Columbus Day” invalidates the sufferings of the indigenous people.
What’s going on with the Omnibus Law/ RUU CIPTA KERJA? As most of us know, a lot of protests have been going on due to the proposed Omnibus Bill. This omnibus law aims to make doing business easier in Indonesia, as well as to attract and interest foreign investors. Despite its attempt to increase Indonesia’s economic growth, there have been plenty of objections among workers, activists, as well as impacted communities. Another bill that encourages foreign investment, yet has already passed, is known as the RUU Ciptaker, short for RUU Cipta Kerja. Similar to the Omnibus Law, its numerous controversial amendments have caused public outcries as well as rage among the Indonesian citizens. New policies such as denying workers’ rights and assisting environmental exploitation have gained the public’s attention, as those against this now-passed bill protest in disapproval.
What’s SARS in Nigeria all about? SARS, also known as the Special Anti Robbery Squad, is a Nigerian Police force unit. Established in 1992, their purpose to detain and investigate kidnappers, thieves, as well as armed robbers. Ironically, SARS has become an emblem of police violence. Throughout these 30 years, there have been countless reports of the sufferings of Nigerians, from ruthless arrests to death— all at the hands of the SARS officers. The SARS have been engaging in kidnapping, theft, murder, rape, extortion, and unlawful arrests. “The next step is a rapid prosecution of officers involved in egregious abuses including extrajudicial killings,” said Bulma Bukarti, a government figure in Nigeria. Despite these reports throughout the years, the Nigerian government has still failed to take action against SARS. Recently, Nigerians have been protesting to disband SARS and to demand police accountability for the officers who have been involved in these improper abuses. However, they were tear-gassed as well as repressed by the police.

Armenia vs Azerbaijan Artsakh, known as Nagorno-Karabakh, is a territory of ethnic Armenians who broke from Azerbaijan after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Why are people protesting in Bangladesh? In the last 8 months, there have been 889 reported rape cases in Bangladesh. Rape has never been acceptable, and it’s unfortunate to know that this extent had to be reached before justice is demanded as this crisis really can’t be ignored any longer. This month, thousands filled the streets in protest, calling for authorities to take action. This growing outrage among Bangladeshi citizens has reached the media's attention. Last week, a group of women formed an alliance called the "Feminists Across Generations". According to The Guardian, they stood to not only protest against cases of violence against women, nor to focus on the trial and punishment of perpetrators, but to question the cultural and social practices that have nurtured and allowed this violence to breed.
