For the ultimate in lightweight performance, the Xtra Lite range has grown with the introduction of a new tent, the Zelos. Tents in the Lite range have been updated with a new light green colour, a single sided silicon treated flysheet and extra door zips as well as the addition of the new look Goshawk with an improved shelter door which can be set up using walking poles to create a sheltered area.

The hugely popular Trail range has expanded even further, with three completely new tents and updates to two of the most popular existing models, the Starlight 1 and 2. For families and groups, the Adventure range has added five new tents, covering the spectrum of sizes, and a canopy designed to work with any tent in the Adventure range to give additional protected outdoor space, as well as updating the whole range with a more dynamic attractive look. The Outback range continues to deliver polycotton comfort for families and groups in hotter conditions and builds on its range with two new tents, the Twilight Horizon and Midnight Horizon. These two new tents mark an ideal entry point into the Outback range. Our sleeping bag collection has been refreshed with the addition of two new bags, the updated Lite 500 that matches the new colour of the Lite range of tents and the Trail Radar 1600 which features a double layer of insulation. These are ultra-lightweight tents for outdoor enthusiasts who demand the highest performance from their equipment and who know exactly what features and specifications they want. This range focuses on low weight – all tents being sub-3kg, fast and easy pitching with innovative features and accessories. TENT GUIDE Where relevant we quote a minimum (min) weight alongside the tent’s standard weight (max). This is for the benefit of experienced outdoor adventurers who wish to carry as little as possible. It represents the tent stripped of all guylines, carrybags, repair kit, packing tapes, extras like gear rope, and carrying only smallest number of pegs needed for pitching – normally four or six.

Fabric Specifications Each range of products designed by Robens uses fabrics tailored specifically to the needs of its particular users. The technology behind each fabric type works in synergy with the designs of the individual tents to provide the best possible on trail performance for the type of outdoor enthusiast each range is aimed at.

High performance HydroTex® XTL is an outstanding, strong, hardwearing fire retardant ripstop fabric that guarantees performance and safety in the most demanding conditions faced by outdoor adventurers. A light 20 denier yarn is used for the flysheet. The outer face of this fabric has a superb silicone coating that shrugs off the elements whilst the inside is coated with polyurethane for durable waterproof performance and the facility for seams to be sealed with reliable heat-taping. The combination of advanced coating technology and modern manufacturing ensures we can offer the lightest great value tents possible.

The HydroTex LT coated fabric has been developed exclusively for Robens. We wanted a durable, resilient high performer that could be relied upon in demanding conditions and that reduced overall tent weight. The new material is a 40 denier nylon with silicone treatment outside and PU coating with taped seams inside, giving a 3,000mm hydrostatic head. It is also fire retardant, for a safer outdoor experience. The material is super strong, UV resistant and light.

HydroTex® HD; Once again we have had a fabric made exclusively for us, to address our uncompromising need for a light, strong, durable flysheet material. Seams are fully taped for a durable waterproof seal, the durable 75 denier high density polyester has a polyurethane (PU) coating with a 5,000mm hydrostatic head waterproof rating, and it’s fire retardant for safety. This fabric will withstand years of heavy use, no matter how harsh the conditions.

HydroTex 5000 meets the wide spread of demands of outdoor recreation with its combination of durable 75 denier polyester fabric and a 5,000mm waterproof rating plus fire retardant and UV inhibitor treatments. Our uncompromising approach to maintaining standards and pushing boundaries make it a reliable performer in the varying conditions encountered on outdoor trips.

HydroTex Polycotton looks great, feels great and delivers top technical performance and comfort. The durable woven fabric has a water repellent treatment which encourages rain to run off the tent walls. As the rain gets heavier, the fabric’s fibres close up and form a waterproof seal. Its UV decay resistance treatment helps to ensure that it will last for many years with reasonable care. This superb fabric is really appreciated by campers on sunny days as, being breathable, it helps to keep tent interiors comfortably cool compared to conventional materials.

Twist Clip Hook Twist Clip hooks and V-shaped webbing loop hangers are combined for fast, easy and secure attachment to poles whilst spreading the load on the flysheet stitching; they can be released easily but only deliberately by hand.

Triangle guying points Reinforced guying points have a triangular design to spread the load taken by the flysheet in strong winds. The reflective loops for guyline attachment make them far easier to spot in a headlamp beam at night in bad weather.

Internal Pole Sleeve System The Internal Pole Sleeve System is used in the Lite range to give a smooth profile to the flysheet, avoiding snow build-up and maximising wind shedding. External access ensures ease of use particularly in demanding conditions.

Rain safe vents Ample hoods shelter the vents that allow a healthy adjustable airflow through the tent whilst keeping out the elements.

Flat pole sleeve Flat sleeves allow easy pole threading, low profile and wind resistance.

Storage pocket for inner door Storage pockets for inner doors mean they can be stashed away neatly to open up the space and avoid accidental damage.

Taped seams Strong, flexible and durable tape is glued and heat-sealed over flysheet seams for effective long-term waterproofing in this critical area.

TENT TESTING To ensure Pure Outdoor Passion, we at Robens test our tents to the absolute maximum. With our own test facility, complete with rain machine and wind generator, we can put all of our tent designs through their paces to ensure continued reliable performance out in the world at large. Tents are pummelled with high winds from various sides and angles to test their stability in extreme conditions, as well as the reliability of components such as poles and the efficacy of guylines. Our rain machine simulates real rainfall, right up to severe downpour conditions, to test stitching, construction, and the integrity of materials when exposed to such adverse weather effects. The waterproof outer fabric itself is tested independently prior to these overall environmental assessments. Once the fabric is received, our laboratories check that the performance of the fabric meets our demanding requirements and matches the hydrostatic head values we have set in advance. Every year, new designs are put under these sorts of rigorous test, not because we are legally obliged to but because we fervently believe that it is vitally important to deliver the highest quality products possible to our customers â&#x20AC;&#x201C; products that are reliable and perform at their best, no matter what the conditions. SPECIAL FEATURES Protecting the environment. We use DAC Green Anodizing poles for our Xtra Lite tents. These poles are produced in an environmentally safe and responsible process, without nitric or phosphoric acid normally associated with the anodizing process. Water consumption is greatly reduced by rinsing with recycled water. We highlight these environmentally friendly poles as DAC GA in our specification panels.

It pitches and adjusts easily, with a single central pole (a walking pole can be used instead), four short attached corner poles and reflective guylines with V-cleats. The zipped door can be raised and supported with walking poles to form a shelter under which to sit. SPECIAL FEATURES

The Hydro Tex LT coated fabric has been developed exclusively for Robens. We wanted a durable, resilient high performer that could be relied upon in demanding conditions and that reduced overall tent weight. The new material is a 40 denier nylon with silicone treatment outside and PU taped seams inside, giving a 3,000mm hydrostatic head. It is also fire retardant, for a safer outdoor experience. The material is super strong, UV resistant and light.

BOX CONSTRUCTION

This is a common way to hold synthetic insulation material in place for lightweight bags. The single layer is usually sandwiched between inner and outer fabrics with stitching running straight through. The result is a succession of lines with reduced insulation around and along the bag where the fill is compressed. We tackle the problem by using loose outers and thus avoiding cold spots anywhere in the bag. Single layer is used in Xtra Lite range.

At Robens, we prefer this method for synthetic fills where more insulation is needed. Two layers of insulating fill are used together in an offset quilting pattern that eliminates any chance of cold spots and maintains the depth of insulation to trap body heat. A loose outer shell rounds off top performance. Double layer is used in Trail Radar range.

Down needs room to loft fully and maximise its insulation potential. The internal box walls sewn to the inner and outer create separate chambers to hold the down in place around your body and offer enough space for expansion after compression in a stuff sack. Box construction is used in Lite and Outback range.

FABRICS & FILLS

Our sleeping bags are tested to the official European Standard – EN13537 – that defines how to test, measure and label a sleeping bag, with the exception of those designed for military use or extreme temperatures.

Our sleeping bags combine a wide range of quality fills and fabrics to maximise budget and performance options. All bags are supplied with compression stuff sacks plus reliable two way YKK zips for versatile ventilation and ease of access, backed by full baffles and anti-snag guides. Matching top materials with attention to detail in manufacture delivers very special bags.

This standard is based on the use of a computer-controlled thermal mannequin to determine the temperature limits of a sleeping bag; the mannequin is placed inside the sample bag in a temperature-controlled climate chamber. Tests and measurements are carried out based on the knowledge of how the human body reacts to changing temperatures during sleep to create the recommended temperature limits that appear on our sleeping bags. The standard is particularly useful in assessing the comparative performance of different bags.

Fill power – measures the loft of down as it fills a given space after compression. Fill power and amount of fill work together to deliver a range of warmth and weight options. We highlight these measures as FP in our specification panels. Isofill – synthetic man-made fibres aim to mimic the insulating properties of down at very competitive prices. Not affected by damp, Isofill 4-hole hollow fibres and Polar fill are an attractive alternative to down.

They can be slept in as a normal sleeping bag, opened out and used like a duvet, or can be zipped together with another bag from the range for a luxurious double sleeping bag for two. They are technical and highly effective but with a more relaxed feel than a mummy shaped bag.
