Antonis Samarakis Antonis Samarakis was a Greek writer of the post-war generation. He was born in Athens at 1919 and died in Pilos Messinia at 2003. In World War II during the Nazi German occupation, he was part of the Greek resistance. In 1944 he was caught by the Nazi Occupational Forces and was condemned to death but managed to escape his captors. For his work he used plain language and no sophisticated style. He approached his stories with a human centered attitude. He worked as an expert in the International Labor Organization of the UN and travelled around the world for social matters. In 1989 he was proclaimed UNICEF's Ambassador of Good Will for the kids around the world.



Antonis Samarakis His literature work is one of the most translated and is published in more than 30 languages. He was characterized for his care and love towards young people, their worries and inspirations. It was his idea the creation of the Teenager's Parliament, organizing informal meetings in the Parliament, were teenagers from all parts of the country could speak on different matters. Antonis Samarakis died in 2003. According to his dying wish, his body was donated to the Medical School of Athens so that medical students could use it for research.
