industrial design and product devolopment

Hello, my name is Eva.

ABOUT ME

Overcoming every challenge thrown my way, I pride myself on completing work to the highest of standards. I am a very outgoing person. A systematic thinker, I always achieve my goals. Creative whilst concise. I consider myself a proactive person, hardworking both individually and as a group and very motivated with sustainability, industrial design and product development, and, in general, with all the challenges that are presented to us throughout our lives.

01

I have participated in several industrial design competitions as a group, learning new lessons from each of them and above all from the classmates. The important thing is to enjoy the experience and take all the positive that this gives you. I want to continue learning, to know new ways to improve our society thanks to the design of products. To be able to contribute my grain of sand to society and make the world a better place to live, share and enjoy. Design is all about engaging with others, providing a solution to a problem, and aiding people’s lives. I live by Charles Eames’ simple but powerful quote: “The detalis are not the details. They make the design”.

From the first moment that I saw this place offered by my university, I was impatient and nervous about opting for it, since I saw that it had everything I was looking for in this experience. The main reason why I have chosen LAMK to continue with my university studies is that the curriculum offers subjects and fields of knowledge that my university would not have supply, so I consider it a great opportunity to grow as a professional and learn from everything you experience throughout your life. Furthermore, since I admire a lot the Finnish culture and design. I am very excited to be part it. I am sure it has many things to nurturing of my career as an industrial designer.

I want to leave my comfort zone, to expose myself to new challenges and new situations, to work in new fields and, above all, discover different methodologies of the design process to which I may be used to in my university. I would love to nourish myself with new knowledge in your university and be able to use them so that in the future, I will be a better professional and person. I think it is essential to travel around the world to live a new experience with different people, which also has very different points of view. I am so excited about the idea and I cannot stop thinking about all the positive things that it can bring me, both during my career as an industrial designer and as a person. I am thrilled to be able to have the chance to study at LAMK and be taking part of you at the Institute of Design. I would love to meet new people and live that experience with enthusiasm and motivation to make the most of it. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of your students. Sincerely, Eva Vera

ABOUT ME

I am currently studying the third course of Engineering in Industrial Design and Product Development at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, UPC, in which I have been able to experiment, learn and study the industrial design and development of products. However, I would love to live in your country and, in particular, study at your university in order to go further and learn new ways of designing, learning and filling myself with new knowledge.

Although I’m an engineer, I like working on the graphical image of all the products. Taking into account that the product will be on the market rivaling other products, it is important getting a good brand recognition. For that reason, the colours and the composition of the brand image is another added value.

BREVILLE

To create the aesthetic image, I use Adobe programs such as Illustrator or Photoshop.

01

Objective The objective of this project is to create a poster, a user guide and a catalog for a product in groups of 2 students.

Problem

Breville is a kitchen appliances company that offers innovation based on the needs of the consumer, enhancing the ease and simplicity of the operation of their devices. Despite the success of their devices, the company has not managed to establish a firm and brand image representative, related to its values of innovation and simplicity.

Mission

Vision

Design the best kitchen appliances in the international arena and become a benchmark of world design in the kitchen sector.

Creative Lab 5th Edition Through the CreativeLab Program you can participate in interdisciplinary projects aimed at complementing your academic training. The participants collaborate with renowned business professionals and put their skills and knowledge into practice in order to generate proposals for real applicability in the ďŹ eld of business activity. Multidisciplinary approach 4 topics and advice provided by Seat and Volkswagen

The work teams are guided and directed so much by professors of the School as by professionals of the company. The proposals generated within the framework of the project are studied by engineers of the Volkswagen Group in order to analyze its real applicability.

Objective Design a chair with ergonomic and adjustable criteria so that it is comfortable for all people in the class.

Process

1. Design a chair with materials at your fingertips and easy to obtain and manipulation. 2. Study the measures of all the members for the design of the chair with ergonomic criteria. 3. Make a real model for its testing and validation by all the members of the class. The mission of this project is to assimilate knowledge of Anthropometry and apply it to product design while working in a team in a professional and organized way. In addition, the final budget of the complete chair must be as low as possible.

Testing The final model must respect aesthetic and productive criteria while supporting the weight and adapts to all the members of the class.

Objective The purpose of this practice is to model from a three-dimensional Kart model. Once molded, a study of the behavior of the bodywork must be done.

Analyzing the model Before performing a real prototype, it is necessary to perform a virtual analysis that allows us knowing his behavior subject to hypothetical circumstances. In this way, we have carried out two different types of analysis:

/ static analysis

/ aerodynamic analysis Through this study we can know the flow of the wind trajectory and draw conclusions about pressure and velocity effects.

Kart / analyzing the structure Work type Duration Creative fields Programs used

Group Project - 3 people 4 weeks CAD - CAM - CAE SolidWorks, KeyShot, Illustrator and Photoshop

KART

We put the chassis at a vertical load on the front wheel, simulating a basement in the pavement. We observe the voltage and deformation graphs to find out if the chassis would tolerate hostile conditions.

40

KART

SKETCHING

41

This means that our buggy would not support this load. Being a buggy that should not be subjected to very hostile situations, you do not have to worry too much about suffering from extreme impacts or situations.

STATIC ANALYSIS

AERODYNAMIC ANALYSIS

/ without protection In the first test, without protection, the air does not find much obstacle beyond the engine in the back, where it shows a minimal terrors.

/ with protection In the second essay, on the other hand, having a glass screen located in the front area, the air is placed inside the car. There he creates small vortices and ends up coming out in the back area.

KART

When applying a 500N force to the right front wheel, the area that most suffers is where we have located the subjections. As we can see in the graph, the maximum value of voltage is greater than the limit elastic material.

/ description Through SolidWorks I have done some 3D modeling since I started my degree 3 years ago. I have worked with various tools inside the program such as Surfaces, This is the currently program I use in case I need a three-dimensional representation of a design.

Regarding rendering, I use the KeyShot program, whose tools I have improve more accurately. But also, this year I have started working with 3DsMax with Scanline and Arnold motors, in which I have discovered so many interesting things and I want to continue learning its tools. Exploded models allow us to undertand the importance of each part of a product to be functional.

EXPLODED MODELS

During my studies I have also made technical drawings of dierent types of products taking into account the dimensions, the ďŹ nishes, the radio of curvature... Most of the projects I have done during my training have been presented with general and detailed plans. SolidWorks is the program I have been using too.

/ description Before implementing any design idea to become a real prototype I like to generate different brainstorming with simple drawing (sometimes freestyle with no backgroung meaning) just to active my mind and try to find a shape that inspires me. I’m not a professional drawer but even so I’m able to get as many drawings as it’s possible to generate the best idea.

Sketches allow us to generate failure and correct them understanding the image and ergonomics of things.

SKETCHING

Besides, apart from the quick drawings, I have also studied a subject at my university called Artistic Expression in which I was able to develop my drawings from scratch until I got a realistic final result. I have worked with different drawing techniques such as charcoal and Copic markers.
