Phillip Williams (122, Chambers Street.) ofrece una interesante alternativa para visitar la historia de EE UU a través de los pósteres, ya que se trata de la mayor tienda-museo del mundo de este producto. Son más de 100.000 anuncios impresos divididos por categorías y, también, un recorrido por la historia del diseño. www.postermuseum.com American Legion, puro jazz. Fuera de las muchas rutas musicales de la ciudad se encuentra este bar (248 W 132nd Street.), en el barrio de Harlem. Es, sin duda, uno de los más deliciosos lugares para escuchar jazz, soul y R&B de Nueva York. Atención a la espontaneidad de sus visitantes: tan pronto escuchas a un músico profesional como a la vecina de la mesa de enfrente, que sale al escenario y recrea maravillosamente a Ella Fitzgerald. Si reservas, mejor, y si vas de jueves a domingo, lo bordas. One World Observatory. El One World Trade Center es el rascacielos más grande de EE

UU, situado al lado del emblemático lugar que ocupaban las Torres Gemelas. Mide 541 metros y exactamente desde su azotea, a 417 metros (la misma altura que una de las desaparecidas torres), se obtiene una espectacular vista de la ciudad. Atención a la subida en el primer ascensor: planta 102 en menos de 60 segundos y un time lapse que te mostrará la historia de la ciudad desde 1600. La cervecería más antigua. Se trata de la McSorley’s Old Ale House, abierta en 1854. Su interior se mantiene casi al completo como en su origen: una inmensa barra de madera, estufa de carbón, sin sillines ni banquetas para sentarse y sus grifos originales, fuera de uso. (15 E 7th Street. www.mcsorleysoldalehouse.nyc). El océano bajo Times Square. Y es literal: ahí ha construido National Geographic su Encounter Ocean Discovery, una inmersión en los fondos marinos y en los distintos hábitats oceánicos con las últimas tecnologías… de inmersión virtual. Nadar entre elefantes marinos, conocer los fondos abisales o ver cómo la vida aflora por la noche en una iluminada y espectacular barrera de coral. Tal cual, porque se trata de una calle peatonal en medio del ajetreo diario del Distrito Financiero y que resulta tan coqueta y tan lejana del ruido de la ciudad que parece un oasis. Bares y restaurantes la escoltan y en primavera y verano se llena de terrazas. Sus edificios, bajos, servían de almacenes a los mercaderes y, tras su restauración, semejan un pequeño pueblito en medio de los rascacielos. Atención porque tiene > dos tramos. El que cuenta con restaurantes y bares es el de la derecha (es decir, el tramo Este), entre Hanover Street. y Coenties Alley. Románico neoyorquino. Has leído bien: en Nueva York se puede visitar una de las mayores concentraciones de claustros y arquitectura románica

QUÉ NO TE PUEDES PERDER MANHATTAN One World Trade Center, el rascacielos más grande de EE UU BROOKLYN Barrio de Bushwick, las mejores vistas a Manhattan desde el otro lado del puente de Brooklyn BRONX New York Botanical Garden, uno de los primeros jardines botánicos existentes en EE UU

El MET Cloisters (99 Margaret Corbin Drive, Fort Tryon Park) alberga más de 2.000 piezas de arte y arquitectura románica, entre ellas, varios claustros completos, traídos a EE UU a principios del siglo XX piedra a piedra y comprados por John D. Rockefeller. Aquí verás, por ejemplo, el ábside de la iglesia de San Martín de Fuentidueña (Segovia). Este distrito demuestra que no todos los grandes templos del arte de la ciudad están en Manhattan. El Brooklyn Museum alberga más de millón y medio de obras de gran cantidad de disciplinas artísticas y alrededor de él se articula gran parte de la vida cultural del borough. Además, en el cuarto piso alberga el Centro de Arte Feminista Elizabeth A. Sackler, con arte exclusivamente hecho por mujeres. www.brooklynmuseum.org Esto sí son vistas a Manhattan… En concreto, las que podrás tener desde cualquiera de los tejados (rooftops) de Bushwick, un barrio de artistas de todo tipo y cuyos bares y restaurantes cuentan con terrazas en lo alto que permiten estas vistas tan desconocidas. Y, ya que estás por allí, haz un recorrido por el museo de arte grafitero que supone pasear por sus calles. Arte urbano del de verdad. Williamsburg. Aunque seas el más moderno y hipster del mundo, este barrio es un emisor continuado de novedades. En él se encuentran tiendas de todo tipo. Por ejemplo: para los amantes del vintage y la segunda mano, hay todo tipo de gangas. Y para los forofos del vinilo, el tiempo no pasa en Rough Trade, una tienda imprescindible también para los melómanos (64 N 9th Street, Brooklyn; www.roughtrade.com). >

Staten Island, ¡ponte crema! South Beach. Staten Island es, seguramente, el distrito menos conocido de Nueva York, aunque en verano puede ser una de las mejores opciones si se tiene en cuenta que se puede divisar el conjunto de Manhattan desde la playa de South Beach. Puente Verrazano Narrows. Giovanni di Verrazano fue el primer europeo que exploró el río Hudson y da nombre a este puente entre Staten Island con Brooklyn. Menos espectacular que el que une este último distrito con Manhattan es, sin embargo, el puente colgante más largo del país. St. George Theater. Construido en 1929 y remodelado, en él puedes disfrutar de obras, conciertos y musicales sin pelearte por una butaca. www.stgeorgetheatre.com Bronx, más allá de su (mala) fama New York Botanical Garden. Nunca imaginarías que en un distrito siempre precedido por su fama se encontrara uno de los primeros jardines botánicos existentes en EE UU y que, además, fuera patrimonio histórico artístico. Pues así es: casi 50 tipos de jardines y colecciones de plantas en un borough que, con lugares como este, lucha por mostrar su mejor cara, por otro lado, cada vez más común. (200th Street & Kazimiroff Blvd). Por cierto, se encuentra muy cerca del Zoo del Bronx, el más grande de Norteamérica. Belmont, el barrio italiano más grande. Al hablar de barrio italiano y Nueva York, todo el mundo piensa en Little Italy, en Manhattan. Sin embargo, el más grande de los que existen en la ciudad (y puro, al estar fuera de cualquier circuito turístico) está en el Bronx. Belmont es un lugar residencial y de ambiente estudiantil donde abunda el pequeño comercio, que se extiende fundamentalmente a lo largo de las dos aceras de la Arthur Avenue, con todo tipo de tiendas, de restaurantes y un mercado. ¡Esto sí es Italia! Casa Museo de Edgar Allan Poe. Más sorpresas: en esta casa vivió sus últimos tres años este maestro de la literatura gótica y de terror. No te vamos a engañar: la casa cuenta con muebles de época y solo dos (una mecedora y una cama) fueron propiedad de Poe, pero saberse en el lugar en el que el autor escribió los famosos poemas Annabel Lee y Las campanas lo compensa. Conoce más espacios históricos del Bronx en www.bronxhistoricalsociety.org Queens, una ciudad y un mundo Sus calles. Sentimos ser tan generalistas con este título, pero Queens hay que pasearlo porque agrupa una impresionante cantidad de vecindarios con entidad propia y comunidades diversas: los italo-americanos se agrupan en Howard Beach, Woodhaven y Middle Village; los de origen irlandés, en Rockaway Beach; las comunidades griegas, en Astoria; los brasileños, alrededor de la 34th Avenue;

los polacos y muchos hispanos, en Maspeth; los sijs indios, en Richmond Hill… Un paseo por el mundo. Museum of the Moving Image. Se trata de la única institución dedicada a conocer y profundizar en la influencia del cine, la televisión o los medios digitales en la sociedad. Cada año exhibe más de 400 películas de todas las épocas y organiza encuentros con profesionales como Robert Alman, Martin Scorsese, David Cronenberg o Daniel Day-Lewis. Un regalito. www.movingimage.us Y, por supuesto, música. El jazz de los años 40 tuvo en Queens su campamento base, su laboratorio y su altavoz. Aprovecha para visitar la Casa-Museo de Louis Armstrong (en 34-56 107th St,; www. louisarmstronghouse.org), en la que absolutamente todo es original. La experiencia es tan recomendable que podrás escuchar conversaciones del músico con amigos o con su mujer, toda vez que acostumbraba a grabarse por si la inspiración le visitaba de repente. •

American Legion: Pure Jazz. Off the traditional beaten track of New York musical tours you'll find this bar, at 248 W and 132nd Street in Harlem. There's no doubt that it is one of the most stunning places to listen to jazz, soul and R&B music in New York City. Pay close attention to the spontaneity of the bar's patrons: you can just as easily catch seasoned professionals doing what they do best or listen to the woman sitting in front of you as she revives the spirit of Ella Fitzgerald. It's best to book in advance, and if you go from Thursday to Sunday, you're golden. >

One World Observatory. The One World Trade Center is the tallest skyscraper in the United States and is located next to the iconic site where the Twin Towers once stood. It measures 541 metres, and from its rooftop – at precisely 417 metres, the exact height of one of the now-disappeared towers – you can take in one of the most amazing views of the city. Be aware before your first trip on the lift: you'll be at floor 102 in less than 60 seconds and there's a time lapse that shows you the city's history since 1600. The oldest brewery in the city. McSorley's Old Ale House opened in 1854. The brewery’s interior remains almost exactly as it was when it first opened. marine elephant seals, discover the bottom of the deepest abyss or, at night, watch a spectacular and illuminated coral reef blossom into life. It's a pedestrian street smack in the middle of the bustling Financial District, but so charming and remote that it will feel like an oasis from the noise of the city. Bars and restaurants line its streets, and terraces spring up everywhere in spring and summer. The low buildings once served as the warehouses for merchants; following their restoration, they now look like a little town among the skyscrapers. Careful, though: there are two sections. The one with the bars and restaurants is on the right (the East section, in other words) between Hanover Street and Coenties Alley. Romanesque New York. You read that right: you can visit one of the largest collections of cloisters and Romanesque architecture in the world on your visit to New York City. The MET Cloisters (99 Margaret Corbin Drive, Fort Tryon Park) houses more than 2,000 Romanesque works of art and architecture. These include several complete

By the way, the Bronx Zoo is very close by, which means another surprise is in store: it's the largest zoo in North America.

Brooklyn: The Alternative Museum

Belmont: The Largest Italian Neighbourhood. Whenever you mention New York's Italian neighbourhood, everyone thinks of Little Italy in Manhattan. However, one of the largest in the city is a Bronx hidden gem, almost totally undiscovered by tourists. This is a residential area with a student vibe, with plenty of small businesses dotted mainly along both sides of Arthur Avenue. You'll find all kinds of shops, restaurants and a market. This is Italy!

Brooklyn Museum. This neighbourhood proves that not all the great temples of art are found on the main borough. The Brooklyn Museum houses more than a million and a half works of art in a huge range of disciplines, and a large part of the borough's cultural life centres around the museum. You’ll probably be happy to learn that the museum houses the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art on the fourth floor, exclusively featuring art made by women. www.brooklynmuseum.org Now these are what you call a view of Manhattan. Less well known are the views of the city to be enjoyed from any rooftop in Bushwick, a neighbourhood in the eastern part of the district and home to artists of all types. Various bars and restaurants have rooftop terraces that offer you almost undiscovered vistas. And since you're in the area, make sure to take a stroll through the unofficial graffiti museum that is the local streets. Urban art in its purest form. Williamsburg. OK, you're modern and a bit of a hipster so this neighbourhood is nothing new for you, but it probably is for the rest of us mortals. You'll find shops of all kinds here. For example, fans of vintage apparel and all things second-hand will find all kinds of bargains. And anyone who loves vinyl will lose whole hours at Rough Trade, the music lover’s must-visit store. (64 N 9th Street, Brooklyn; www.roughtrade.com). Staten Island: Put on your sunblock! South Beach. Staten Island is definitely the leastknown borough in New York. But in summer, it may be one of the best options if you remember the great views of Manhattan that can be enjoyed from South Beach. Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Giovanni di Verrazzano became the first European to explore the Hudson River. That's the origin of the name of the bridge that links Staten Island and Brooklyn. Less spectacular than the one that joins the latter with Manhattan, it is the longest suspension bridge in the country.

We'll be honest: the house features period furniture and only two (a rocking chair and a bed) belonged to Poe. But knowing that you're standing in the same place where the famed author wrote the poems Annabel Lee and The Bells makes up for it. Make the most and visit www.bronxhistoricalsociety.org to explore more historical areas in the Bronx. Queens: A city and a world It’s all about the streets. We hate to be so general with this title, but you really need to take a stroll through the streets of Queens. The main reason is that this borough is home to an impressive number of neighbourhoods, each with their own identity and melting pot of cultures. Italian-Americans live in Howard Beach, Woodhaven and Middle Village; those with Irish roots in Rockaway Beach; Greek communities are in Astoria; Brazilians, around 34th Avenue; Poles and many Hispanic communities in Maspeth; Sikh Indians in Richmond Hill… A stroll through the world. Museum of the Moving Image. It's the only institution dedicated to exploring and learning more about the influence that film, television and digital media have on modern society. Every year, more than 400 films from every period are shown. The museum also organises lectures by leading lights of the moving image: Robert Alman, Martin Scorsese, David Cronenberg and Daniel Day-Lewis have all appeared. Las llanuras del norte

Pregúntate por qué, cuando piensas en Costa Rica, solo te vienen cosas buenas a la cabeza: naturaleza, aventura, relax, luna de miel, playa… Normal: al 5% de las especies del mundo que albergan sus apenas 51.000 km2 y a sus dos costas (caribeña y pacífica) separadas por poco más de 320 kilómetros, se une que es una de las naciones americanas con mayor índice de desarrollo, una de las más seguras y con un clima político y económico enriquecido por auténticos esfuerzos que se han traducido en varios reconocimientos medioambientales internacionales y en campañas de preservación de la comunidad local. ¿Eres un loco del turismo experiencial? Este es tu país.

Fronterizas con Nicaragua, estas llanuras cuentan con varios espacios protegidos, ríos, lagos, cataratas, volcanes… Los deportes de aventura, el senderismo y el disfrute de una gran parte de la fauna endémica del país (como el prehistórico pez Gaspar) son aquí obligados. Empieza por el volcán Arenal: activo aún, podrás comprobar in situ la formación geológica de la tierra en sus laderas y coladas de lava y arena de sus últimas erupciones. Su temperatura, además, te permitirá disfrutar de aguas termales en la cercana ciudad de Fortuna. Al lado del Arenal se encuentra Cerro Chato, otro volcán (este extinto), ideal para el senderismo, en cuyos caminos encontrarás joyas como las cataratas Fortuna, de 70 metros de altura. Aunque, sin duda, las cataratas más espectaculares son las de Toro Amarillo y del río Agrio, de altas concentraciones de minerales. Precisamente estos minerales son responsables de otra maravilla: el río Celeste, unión de otras dos corrientes de agua llenas de minerales procedentes del volcán Tenorio y que le dan su espectacular color azul intenso. Unos atractivos hidrográficos y geológicos que se humanizan con las reservas indígenas de Maleku o con la pintoresca localidad de Sarapiquí.

A pesar de sus reducidas dimensiones, Costa Rica tiene mucho que ver y, a la vuelta, aún más para contar. Por ello, hagamos un recorrido por sus distintos territorios: del Caribe hacia el Pacífico, pasando por un interior selvático y salvaje que te harán olvidar, por un momento, todo lo demás. Caribe De frontera (Nicaragua) a frontera (Panamá), los 320 kilómetros de costa caribeña del país cuentan con una de sus principales urbes, la ciudad de Limón, como centro. Si la visitas, no olvides recorrer su casco histórico y su particular arquitectura. Desde ella podrás acceder a Isla Uvita, un islote a las orillas del puerto, idóneo para hacer esnórquel. Más allá de Limón se extiende la naturaleza pura. Te proponemos recorrer dos grandes espacios naturales: los Canales de Tortuguero (el segundo humedal más grande del país, una especie de Amazonas en pequeño) y el de Cahuita, un bosque lluvioso que tiene su continuación en unas espectaculares playas donde practicar deportes acuáticos. Además, camino de Cahuita podrás visitar un santuario de perezosos. Tienes que hacer, obligatoriamente, una parada en el Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, cuyas casas de colores son un aviso de su riqueza étnica, especialmente palpable en sus gentes… y su gastronomía. Precisamente en la Cordillera de Talamanca viven los Bri Bri, un grupo indígena dividido en clanes y cuya reserva es visitable.

Valle Central Aquí se encuentra San José, la capital del país: imagina 24º de media anual para visitar sus calles y jardines y edificios históricos como el Teatro Nacional o el de Melico Salazar o museos como el de Arte y Diseño, de Arte Contemporáneo o de Jade. Dos valles sobre salen sobre los demás: el de Santa María de Dota y Copey (con varias comunidades indígenas y donde se cultiva uno de los mejores cafés del país) y el de Orosi, localidad en la que visitar la Iglesia y Museo Colonial de 1743, una de las pocas construcciones coloniales en buen estado del país. En esta zona se encuentra también la ciudad de Cartago, hasta 1823 capital de Costa Rica, con su muy meritoria basílica de los Ángeles, y las ruinas de la iglesia de Ujarrás, del siglo XVI. Otra localidad, la de Turrialba, es idónea para visitar distintos asentamientos indígenas del país. Muy cerca de él está el río Pacuare, de los mejores para practicar rafting. El Valle Central >

estaría incompleto sin una visita al volcán Irazú, el más alto del país (3.432 metros) o el Cerro de la Muerte, a 3.451 metros y desde el que, con buena visibilidad, se divisan ambas costas.

Guanacaste

La Isla del Caño, una de las más bellas del país, es uno de los lugares arqueológicos precolombinos más importantes de Costa Rica, al ser utilizado por los precolombinos como cementerio y lugar sagrado; destacan especialmente sus conocidas esferas de piedra, que cuenta con su propio museo (con más de 300 ejemplares) de esta, hoy, importante seña de identidad del pueblo costarricense. El indigenismo sigue presente con pueblos como los cabécares, los guaymies y los borucas. En esta zona está también el Parque Nacional Corcovado y Bahía Drake, con una de las mejores y mayores riquezas naturales y arqueológicas del país. Cerca de la ciudad de Pérez Zeledón están las cataratas Nauyaca, lugar de visita por excelencia de todos los viajeros del país. Los manglares Terraba Sierpe (el humedal más grande del país) y el Parque Nacional Marino Ballena completan el recorrido.

Muchas de las áreas protegidas natural y culturalmente de Costa Rica se encuentran aquí. Empecemos por sus parques nacionales. El de La Vieja, un macizo volcánico con nueve conos y una laguna con múltiples rutas senderistas; el de Las Baulas, donde desovan las tortugas que llevan este nombre, la más grandes del mundo; el de Barra Honda, con un alucinante sistema de cavernas que combina antiguos arrecifes coralinos emergidos con estalactitas y estalagmitas (una parte es visitable); o el de Santa Rosa, con una importante estación biológica debido a la cantidad de fauna y flora existente y con algunas de las playas menos exploradas del país. Otras playas de la zona son la de Tamarindo (de las más cuidadas del país), de Samara (de las más seguras y bellas, ideal para los deportes acuáticos) y las de Nosara y Guiones, convertidas en lugar de peregrinación para los que buscan turismo espiritual y yoga. Puntarenas Alberga una de las joyas naturales de Costa Rica: el Bosque Nuboso de Monteverde, uno de los pocos bosques de este tipo que existen en el mundo; además, en él cohabita un 2,5% de la biodiversidad del mundo y un 10% de su flora es endémica. La localidad de Montezuma cuenta con dos atractivos muy importantes: su playa en forma de pequeña ensenada en el golfo de Nicoya y su catarata de 20 metros de altura. Si le añades la playa Cabuya, la Reserva Natural Absoluta de Cabo Blanco y las islas del golfo te podrás hacer una idea más extensa de sus reservas naturales y de ese momento tan plácido que es tomar el sol en la arena. No te marches sin conocer el río Tárcoles, en cuya desembocadura podrás ver cocodrilos, ni sin visitar la ciudad Puntarenas, campamento base idóneo para todas las visitas y excursiones. ¡Ah! Y si te gusta el surf, la boca del río Barranca es uno de los lugares más visitados del país por los amantes de esta disciplina deportiva. Pacífico Central La biodiversidad domina esta área, toda vez que es bastante húmeda y lluviosa. Un ejemplo es el Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio y sus playas, que mezcla la frondosidad del interior con sus playas blancas y con monos, perezosos, venados y distintos reptiles y aves como habitantes. Otro es el Parque Nacional Carara, con tres tipos de bosques: muy húmedo, tropical húmedo y tropical muy húmedo. Otra joya es el río Savegre, uno de los más limpios del mundo. Jacó es una localidad no muy lejana a la capital que permite disfrutar de playas escondidas ideales para practicar deportes acuáticos. Se unen a ellas las de la Herradura, que une al reclamo del sol el del golf (con un cercano campo de 18 hoyos)

It's only natural: 5% of the world's species are found in its combined 51,000 km2 and two coastlines (Caribbean and Pacific) are separated by a scant 320 kilometres. Add to this the fact that Costa Rica has one of the highest development indices in Central America and is one of the safest countries to visit. Its political climate and economy are enriched by genuine efforts, which take the form of local conservation campaigns and recognition by international environmental organisations alike. Are you crazy about immersive travel experiences? Then this is the country for you. Despite its small size, Costa Rica has a lot to see and even more stories to tell. With that in mind, let's take a tour of its different regions: from the Caribbean to the Pacific, stopping in the jungle interior where, for a moment, you’ll feel as if time has stood still. Caribbean From border to border (Nicaragua to Panama), the country's Caribbean coast stretches for 320 kilometres and features one of the main cities, Limón, at its centre. If you visit the city, be sure to visit its historic centre and unique architecture. From Limón you can reach Isla Uvita, an islet at the edges of the port that's ideal for snorkelling fans. Beyond Limón, nature unfolds in its purest form.

We suggest touring two large natural areas: Canales de Tortuguero, the second-largest wetlands region in the country and a kind of mini-Amazon, and Cahuita, a rainforest that stretches all the way to spectacular beaches where you can practise water sports. What’s more, on your way to Cahuita you can visit a sloth sanctuary. Another unmissable stop is at Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, whose multicoloured houses are evidence of the ethnic diversity of its inhabitants... and can be savoured in the local cuisine. In fact, in the Cordillera de Talamanca mountain range, you'll visit the reservation of the Bri Bri indigenous people, whose society is divided into clans. The Northern Plains On the border with Nicaragua, these plains have several protected areas, with rivers, lakes, waterfalls, volcanoes... Adventure sports, hiking and spotting much of the country's native fauna (for example, the prehistoric fish Gaspar) are not to be missed. Start at the Arenal volcano: still active, you can witness in situ the geological formation of the earth in the volcano's slopes and lava flows and in the ash from its last eruptions. Courtesy of the volcano’s heat, you can also enjoy the hot springs in the nearby city of Fortuna. Close to Arenal is Cerro Chato, another volcano (although extinct) that's ideal for hiking. Throughout its trails you'll find jewels such as the Fortuna waterfalls which rise to more than 70 metres. Without a doubt, the most spectacular waterfalls can be found at Toro Amarillo and on the Agrio River, which have a high concentration of minerals. >

It's precisely these minerals that are responsible for another marvel: the Celeste River, the nexus of two mineral-rich streams originating from the Tenorio volcano and which give the river its intense blue colour. These attractive wonders of water and geology are paired with human points of interest, such as the Maleku indigenous people reserve or the picturesque town of Sarapiquí. Central Valley Here you'll find San José, the country's capital: imagine an average annual temperature of 24º and the perfect weather for exploring its streets, gardens and historical building, such as the Teatro Nacional [National Theatre] or the Melico Salazar Theatre, or the Art and Design Museum, Contemporary Art Museum, or Jade Museum. Two valleys stand out from the rest: Santa María de Dota and Copey (home to several indigenous communities and some of the best coffee grown in the country) and Orosi, location of the Colonial Museum and Church built in 1743, one of the few well-preserved colonial buildings in the country. In this area you'll also find the city of Cartago, which was Costa Rica’s capital until 1823. Among its sights are the impressive Basilica de los Angeles and the ruins of the 16th century Ujarrás Church. Another town, Turrialba, is the perfect base for visiting some of the country's different indigenous settlements. Located very close by is the Pacuare River, one of the best rafting spots. A tour of the Central Valley wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Irazú Volcano, the largest volcano in the country at 3,432 metres. There's also the Cerro de la Muerte from which, at 3,451 metres, you can take in both of the country's coasts on a clear day. Guanacaste Many of Costa Rica's protected natural and cultural areas are found here. Let's start with its national parks. There's La Vieja National Park, named after the massive volcano with its nine cones and a lagoon with several hiking trails. There's also Las Baulas, where leatherback sea turtles, the largest in the world, come to lay their eggs; Barra Honda, with an impressive system of caves that combine ancient coral reefs from which stalactites and stalagmites emerge (you can visit part of it); or Santa Rosa, which has an important biology research station thanks to the quantity of local fauna and flora as well as some of the least-explored beaches in the country. Other beaches in the area are Tamarindo (one of the best-maintained in the country), Samara (one of the safest and most beautiful, ideal for water sports); and Nosara and Guiones, which have become a place of pilgrimage for practitioners of spiritual tourism and yoga. Puntarenas Home to one of the Costa Rica’s natural treasures: Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, one of the few existing forests of this type. What’s more, 2.5% of the world's biodiversity can be found here, and 10% of its flora is native. The town of Montezuma

has two very important attractions: its beach in the shape of a small inlet in the Gulf of Nicoya and its 20 metre-high waterfall. Add a visit to Cabuya Beach, the Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve and gulf islands and you can get a better idea of the country's natural reserves as well as enjoying some sunbathing on the sand. Don't leave without visiting the River Tárcoles, at the mouth of which crocodiles can be spotted. Be sure to explore Puntarenas too, the perfect base for your trips and excursions. Ah! And if you like surfing, the mouth of the Barranca Rivers is one of the most-visited places in the country for lovers of this sport. Central Pacific Biodiversity dominates this region thanks to the humidity and high rainfall. One example is Manuel Antonio National Park and its beaches, where lush interior meets white, sandy beaches. Monkeys, sloths, deer and various reptiles and birds are the main inhabitants. There's also Carara National Park, with its three types of forests: very wet, tropical and very wet tropical. Another gem is the River Savegre, one of the world’s cleanest bodies of water. The town of Jacó is close to the capital, allowing visitors to enjoy less-explored beaches that are ideal for water sports. Add to these the beaches of Herradura, with the combined appeal of sunshine, golf (there’s an 18-hole course nearby) and competitive fishing on the high seas. Esterillos Beach, which measures nearly seven kilometres, is also nearby.

The 500-Year Anniversary of an Important Encounter Isla Cozumel, uno de los destinos más paradisíacos de la Riviera Maya, conmemora este año 2018 los 500 años del encuentro entre dos culturas y lo hará con diferentes celebraciones y actividades durante todo el año enfocados al residente y al turista. Fue un 3 de mayo de 1518 que el español Juan de Grijalva y Cuellar arribó a Isla Cozumel en su viaje cuyo destino era Isla Mujeres, las corrientes lo desviaron a la Isla que en ese entonces se llamaba CUZAMIL. Después de rodear sus costas durante tres días, decidieron un 6 de mayo echar anclas para desembarcar en la parte norte de Cozumel. Grijalva acompañado de sus marinos, sosteniendo la bandera española y siguiendo el ritual de la época tomó posesión de la tierra en nombre de los Reyes de España Doña Juana “La Loca” hija de los Reyes Católicos y su heredero Carlos I de España y V de Alemania. Fue ese día cuando se celebra la primera misa documentada en territorio mexicano, para los descubridores el arribo a Cozumel no representó mucha importancia y consideraron que esperar en Cozumel, era perder el tiempo. El viernes 7 de mayo los hispanos zarpan de la isla y navegan hacia el sur por la costa de la Península. Y así, al hacer un breve recuento en el pasado de este fascinante destino, podemos estar seguros que de norte a sur Cozumel ofrece aventuras únicas y llenas de historia. Es típico y muy recomendado alquilar un coche y dar la famosa vuelta a la isla, se pueden visitar lugares emblemáticos con los nombres de personas que han marcado la historia de la isla, como por ejemplo los marineros Pablo Celarain (visitó la isla en 1826 por quien lleva su nombre el Faro de Punta Sur) o Miguel Molas (quien visita la isla en 1817, y da su nombre al faro de la parte norte de Cozumel), ambos navegantes que ratificaron que se encontraba en abandono la isla. Otro ejemplo es el pueblo de El Cedral, antes llamado Santa María, un poblado conformado de amplias y coloridas casas de la época, bellos jardines con flores y una explanada central donde con bailes y gastronomía se celebra anualmente la Fiesta de “El Cedral” y donde el turista puede realmente 26 evelopmag

respirar y sentir la belleza y el estilo Yucateco. El día 5 de mayo 2018 se celebrará la “Misa por los 500 Años” en una Iglesia nueva edificada especialmente para el Año Jubilar. Una celebración eucarística para conmemorar esa primera misa que se celebró en territorio mexicano. Será un evento importante para el turista religioso ganando la indulgencia plenaria al asistir a este congreso eucarístico. Este hecho histórico invita a los habitantes de Cozumel a prepararse durante todo un año para volver a celebrar el encuentro entre España y Cozumel, es la identidad de un pueblo la que hace que el turista se sienta acogido y bienvenido; en Cozumel se forja desde ese encuentro de 1518 una identidad de respeto y amor al prójimo. This year, Isla Cozumel, one of the most paradisiacal destinations of the Riviera Maya, is commemorating the meeting of two cultures that took place 500 years ago. The island will host different celebrations and activities throughout the year that are focused on both locals and tourists.

This historical event invites Cozumel’s inhabitants to prepare themselves for a whole year to celebrate the meeting of Spain and Cozumel again. This event is the identity of a town that ensures tourists feel comfortable and welcome; on Cozumel, this identity, based on respect and love for one’s neighbour, has been forged since that encounter in 1518. A destination in the Caribbean that these days distinguishes itself as an “island of peace”. •

It was on 3 May 1518, when Spaniard Juan de Grijalva y Cuellar arrived on Isla Cozumel. His original voyage had been to Isla Mujeres. However, the ocean currents diverted him to the island that was known at the time as CUZAMIL. On 6 May, after circling its coastline for three days, he and his crew decided to drop anchor and disembark on the northern part of Cozumel. Grijalva, accompanied by his sailors, holding the Spanish flag and following the ritual of that time, took possession of the land in the name of the King and Queen of Spain, Doña Juana “La Loca” or “Joanna the Mad”, daughter of the Catholic Monarchs, and her heir, Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany. It was on this day that the first mass celebrated on Mexican soil was documented. Arrival on Cozumel was not of much significance to the discoverers, who believed that prolonging their stay would have been a waste of time.

In June 2018, the company will celebrate its fifth birthday. Evelop started its journey on 1 June 2013, operating its first flight (Madrid – Punta Cana).

La compañía aérea comenzó su andadura con un Airbus A330-300 de 388 plazas que realizaba vuelos a destinos en el Caribe como Punta Cana, Varadero, Cancún o La Habana.

The story of the airline began with a 388-seat Airbus A330-300 that operated flights to destinations in the Caribbean such as Punta Cana, Varadero, Cancun and Havana.

Hoy en día, la flota de Evelop comprende un total de dos Airbus A330-300, con capacidad para 388 pasajeros, un Airbus A330-200 con 287 plazas y un Airbus A320 para 180 pasajeros. Por otra parte, la filial de Evelop en Portugal (Orbest) cuenta con un Airbus A330-300 de 388 plazas, que realiza vuelos transoceánicos desde Lisboa a destinos del Caribe.

These days the Evelop fleet acomprises a total of two Airbus A330-300s, with a capacity of 388 passengers, an Airbus A330-200 with 287 seats, and an Airbus A320 for 180 passengers. Evelop Estrena Nuevo Avión Evelop Unveils a New Aeroplane En el mes de abril 2018, Evelop incorporó un nuevo avión a su flota actual. Se trata de un Airbus A330200 con una capacidad para 287 pasajeros. Todos los asientos disponen de una pantalla individual en la que se pueden disfrutar durante el vuelo las mejores películas, series y juegos. Por otro lado, de esas 287 plazas, 19 pertenecen a la clase business con reclinación totalmente plana, y 32 plazas cuentan con asientos de tamaño XL que disponen de una mayor reclinación y una mayor distancia entre filas. All seats have a screen that allows you to enjoy the best films, series and video games during the flight. What’s more, of the total 287 seats, 19 seats in business class recline fully, and there are 32 XL-size seats that boast a greater recline angle and a greater distance between rows.

Evelop Renueva el Certificado IOSA Evelop renews its IOSA certification Uno de los grandes hitos que marcan el inicio de 2018 para la aerolínea, es la renovación del certificado IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) otorgada por IATA. Se trata de un sistema de evaluación reconocido y aceptado internacionalmente y con dos objetivos fundamentales: mejorar la seguridad técnica y reducir el gran número de auditorías entre compañías aéreas. Este certificado tiene una validez de dos años y es requisito indispensable para formar parte de la Asociación Internacional de Transporte Aéreo (IATA). El alcance de estas certificaciones engloba la prestación de servicios de transporte aéreo comercial de pasajeros y mercancías de la aerolínea. Evelop consiguió la certificación de seguridad de IATA por primera vez en el año 2015.

El pasado mes de marzo colaboramos con el programa Chiloé, una aventura Ultratrail de Euskal Televista. En esta ocasión Evelop fue la aerolínea encargada de llevar al presentador, chef y ultrafondista Zigor Iturrieta y a su equipo a México vía Cancún donde rodarían el documental para uno de los episodios del programa. Una vez allí, visitaron Chihuahua recorriendo sus calles e historia. Al final del periplo, Zigor participó en una prueba mítica del Ultratrail mundial donde quedó segundo en la “distancia corta” de más de 42 kilómetros.

One of the airline’s greatest milestones in early 2018 is the renewal of its IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certificate granted by IATA. It’s an evaluation system recognised and accepted internationally, with two fundamental objectives: improving technical safety and reducing the large number of audits between airlines. This certificate is valid for two years and is a prerequisite for membership of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).The scope of these certifications encompasses the provision of commercial passenger and cargo transport services by the airline. Evelop obtained IATA’s security certification for the first time in 2015.

In March, we collaborated with the Chiloé programme, an Ultratrail adventure by Euskal Televista. Evelop was the airline chosen to fly the presenter, chef and ultra runner Zigor Iturrieta and his team to Cancún in Mexico, where they were to film a documentary for one of the programme’s episodes. Once there, the team stopped in Chihuahua, touring the city’s streets and enjoying the local cuisine. At the end of the journey, Zigor took part in the legendary international Caballo Blanco Ultramarathon in Urique, where he took second place in the 'short d istance' of over 42 kilometres.

Evelop acepta una bolsa de equipaje de mano en todos sus vuelos, incluyendo los realizados dentro de territorio español. Las dimensiones del equipaje de mano no pueden exceder de 50 x 45 x 25 cms. Y su peso no debe superar 10 kgs. No obstante, elementos como bolsos de mano, libros de bolsillo, prendas de abrigo, paraguas o bastón serán aceptados a bordo sin necesidad de ser etiquetados ni pesados.

Evelop allows passengers to bring only one piece of hand luggage onboard which should not exceed the following dimensions and weight: 50 x 45 x 25 cms, and weight cannot exceed more than 10 kgs. However objects such as handbags, paperback books, coats, umbrellas or walking sticks can be brought onboard without previously being weighed or labelled.

For your information, having products such as beach sand or coffee in your checked luggage can result in inspection by customs authorities that will then require your presence in order to check your suitcase’s contents. To avoid inconveniences or delays we recommend that you transport these products in your carry-on luggage.

A comprehensive selection of audio and video programmes are available to our passengers on all intercontinental flights and most European flights from mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands. In order to enjoy this service, headsets are available on request at the price of 4 Euros. These headsets are compatible with most electronic systems.

Los menores de 5 años han de viajar con adulto sentado al lado y nunca en salidas de emergencia. De 5 a 12 años pueden ir sentados con un pasajero de mas de 16 años, pero nunca en salidas de emergencia.

Minors under the age of five must travel with an adult seated beside them and must never be seated at emergency exits. From the ages of 5 to 12, they may travel while seated with a passenger over the age of 16, but never at emergency exits.

MEDIDAS DE SEGURIDAD SAFETY MEASURES Desde el 6 de Noviembre del 2006, la Unión Europea (UE) ha adoptado nuevas medidas de seguridad que restringen la cantidad de líquidos o sustancias de consistencia similar que los pasajeros pueden llevar consigo cuando pasan los controles de seguridad de los aeropuertos comunitarios. Estas medidas son aplicables a todos los pasajeros que salgan de los aeropuertos de la UE, independientemente de su destino. Las nuevas medidas no limitan la adquisición por los pasajeros de estos líquidos o sustancias en las tiendas situadas más allá del punto de control donde usted muestra su tarjeta de embarque o a bordo de las aeronaves operadas por una aerolínea de la UE.

Since 6th November 2006, the European Union has adopted new security measures restricting the volume of liquids or similar substances which passengers are allowed to carry with them through security controls in European airports. These measures are applicable to all passengers leaving EU airports, regardless of their destination. However, the new measures do not limit passengers from obtaining these liquids or substances from shops situated beyond the control point where a boarding pass must be shown, or onboard aircraft operated by a EU airline.

Sólo le está permitido llevar en su equipaje de mano pequeñas cantidades de líquidos. Estos líquidos tienen que ir en pequeños contenedores con una capacidad individual máxima de 100ml. Cada pasajero tiene que empaquetar estos contenedores en una bolsa transparente de plástico con autocierre de no más de un litro de capacidad máxima, para facilitar la inspección de estos productos en los controles de seguridad. Los pasajeros deberán proveerse de dichas bolsas antes del inicio de su viaje. A efectos de las nuevas medidas, se consideran líquidos:

Only small amounts of liquid are allowed to be carried in the hand luggage. Such liquids must be transported in small containers, with an individual maximum capacity of 100ml. Each passenger must package these containers in a self-sealing, transparent, plastic bag, of no more than one-litre capacity to facilitate inspection of these products at security controls. Passengers must obtain such bags before beginning their journey. Liquids include:

While preparing your luggage:

• Water and other drinks, soups, syrups • Creams, lotions and oils, including toothpaste • Perfumes • Gels, such as shower gel or shampoo • Content of pressurised containers, including shaving foam and other foams and deodorants • Aerosols • Any other substance of a similar consistency

At the airport • All liquids must be presented within the aforementioned bag, separately from hand luggage and placed in the tray provided for that purpose by security controls, to be examined by the security personnel. • Passengers must remove their jacket and/or coat and place them in a tray. These garments must be examined separately during the inspection. • Passengers must remove their laptop computer or any other electronic device of similar dimensions from its case, and place it in a tray to be inspected separately from its case at security controls.

• Carry authorized products, including liquids and similar substances mentioned in the previous section, in your checked baggage; the new measures only affect hand luggage.

• Carry medicines and baby food in your hand luggage, for use during the trip, presenting them separately at the security controls, but not in a transparent bag.

• Buy liquids such as beverages and perfumes from shops situated beyond the control point or on board aircrafts operated by an EU airline.

• Comprar líquidos como bebidas y perfumes, bien en cualquier tienda de los aeropuertos de la UE cuando éstas estén situadas más allá del punto de control de seguridad o bien a bordo de una aeronave operada por una aerolínea europea.

If these products are sold in sealed bags, do not open them until your trip is finished. If you are going to continue your trip to another EU airport, do not open the sealed bag until you have left the last EU airport. All these liquids are additional to the quantities mentioned above for the plastic bag.

Si estos productos son vendidos en bolsas selladas, no las abra hasta que no haya finalizado su viaje. Si usted va a continuar su viaje en otro aeropuerto de la UE, no abra esta bolsa sellada hasta que haya salido del último aeropuerto comunitario. Información importante para pasajeros alérgicos Les informamos que algunos de los productos que ofrecemos a bordo de nuestros vuelos pueden contener ingredientes alérgenos para algunos pasajeros con algún tipo de intolerancia o alergia incluyendo las trazas. Les recordamos que es responsabilidad del pasajero llevar la medicación adecuada y otras medidas de protección que pueda necesitar durante el vuelo. Les rogamos que por su propia seguridad tenga en cuenta las siguientes recomendaciones: Si usted sufre cualquier tipo de alergia o intolerancia, siempre deberá llevar consigo la medicación necesaria e inyectables.
