Program Notes I composed this work in the late summer and fall of 2007. I had attended a composition master class given by the featured composer Ken Ueno of the University of Southern Mississippi Integrales New Music Festival. A recital of works by the guest composer was given, one of which was performed by Gregory Oakes. I was so taken by the performance that I wanted to immediately write something for Oakes. After the recital I had the opportunity to talk a bit more with Ken Ueno. Out of that meeting came the joke that I would write a piece whose title was a joke of sorts based on the pronunciation of Ueno (pronounced Way –No) and I would call my piece No Way.
No Way is a short character piece for solo clarinet that is a bar by bar variation of one of my early works for saxophone.
