told, to scarcely remember time gone by. Either that or I really am getting old. My daughter thinks it is actually possible to become younger every year once you hit 40. You know your children are hitting a certain age when they find it hilarious to make fun of you and also find you a complete embarrassment. I have reached both these points with my two, but frankly I am secretly happy with both. Speaking of juniors, how fabulous do our mini model winners look on the cover of this edition? You can read more and see all of our 2013 mini model finalists along with viewing the incredible winners shoot by FayAndrea on pages 50 - 55. So I guess one of the highlights of 2013 for me, apart from gaining a horse,
dipping your toes into the turquoise Indian Ocean. A truly incredible experience and memories made. As we are now freezing cold and constantly providing personalised weather updates via Facebook and Twitter (you can also pop outside if you really need to know), we can also get cosy and comfy, take time to reflect and enjoy the warmth of winter. We really are a nation of moaning, groaning grumpy bah humbugs. It is absolutely not as bad as it has been and probably will be, so enjoy what is now. Think positive, be positive and good things will happen. A bit of a text book cliche there, but after a good, happy and productive year focussing on what is valuable, I can begrudgingly say, this cheesy line holds truth.

The
INTERVIEW Emma Mackie with
We talk to model scout Emma Mackie about what catches her eye... Hi Emma. Thanks for talking to Every Model Magazine. Could you tell our readers who you are and what you do? I am the Director of Scouting at Premier Model Management. I head up the scouting division which consists of 4 scouts. I organise the scouts, decide with the team where to scout. Then head off scouting with my team looking for great boys and girls that have potential to be models for Premier. As a model scout how would you define your job? My job is to see potential in boys and girls to be models. We travel across the country and worldwide looking for great kids to represent as 6

models. Even when not officially scouting I never really stop working because be it shopping at the supermarket or taking my daughter to the swimming pool I can’t help but constantly have my eye out for girls and boys that have that special look. How did you first get involved in the modelling industry? I have always been passionate about fashion. I bought the first copy of The Face and ID magazine when they came out and I was only 11. I had a boyfriend that was a fashion photographer and we moved to Paris when I was 23. He had a great friend that was a booker at a big agency called Marilyn’s and she called me to go for an interview when they were
looking for a new new-faces booker. I’d never done it before, I’d worked in fashion in a separate entity and I had always helped edit my boyfriend’s pictures. I think I’ve always had a good eye for a good photo and could recognise a model with great potential. We often used to do the castings together. I totally blagged the job even though I didn’t speak French at the very beginning and went on to work there for 10 years. What has been your most memorable working highlight? We brought Fernanda Tavares into Paris from Brazil. She had been working for a little while in Brazil but she definitely didn’t have a great book and was certainly a brand new face
in Paris and Europe. She did a test shoot that came back beautifully, we pulled all her old pictures out and sent her on castings with just a new test and a great Polaroid page. Fernanda was so amazing looking in real life and in personality that she didn’t really even need any pictures. Her first job within a month of landing in Paris was the cover of French Vogue shot by Mario Testino. It was amazing to have a new face go that fast into the big time. Even writing about it now makes me smile and gives me goose bumps. When the option changed on her chart from ‘option’ to ‘confirmed’ the women’s booking table went mad and started clapping and cheering. Have you ever experienced working with a new signing you thought would be amazing and ended up being... A star. I don’t want to name names but we had a girl that came to Paris and no one except me believed in her. She had an amazing body but terrible purple hair in dreadful condition that looked as if she had cut it herself. She worked a little bit and then changed agencies and went on to have a great career. We all make mistakes and I stayed great friends with her. That’s why it’s always worth visiting all the agencies before making a decision so that you can get a feel for each agencies different personalities.
Would you agree that in the world of modelling reputation by association is a significant consideration in your day to day work? Absolutely. We work with lots of agencies all over the world and having great models to offer to other markets means they in return offer us their great girls when then need them to be placed in London. When we scout we always say we are from Premier as a way of introducing ourselves and thanks to the great reputation the agency has, most people have heard of us. What does a model scout look for in new signings? A great and unique look, an excellent body and a rocking personality always helps. What would you say the top three ABSOLUTE NOs are in a potential model that would make or break a signing decision? Rudeness rudeness and rudeness. Everything else I can deal with. I was once trying to scout a boy and was in the process of trying to get a better look at him before I approached him. He started swearing at me and asking me in no uncertain terms what I was staring at. He was really rude, he made also really rude and aggressive gestures at me. I ended up walking off and just wondering how that might have been the
LARA MULLEN Scouted twice by Premier at two separate music festivals. Lara Mullen was walking for Alexander Wang in New York fashion within two weeks of her discovery as well as later appearing on the covers of both Dazed & Confused and i-D, at the same time. MALAIKA FIRTH Discovered after her mother rang Premier's founder Carole White having watched Channel 4's "The Model Agency". Malaika appears in the Autumn Winter Prada ad campaign, the first black model to front the campaign since Naomi Campbell 19 years ago.

day his life changed for the better but he ruined it. A bolshie attitude does not go down well with model agents or clients. A bad attitude will not open any doors. Every Model Magazine often discusses the risk of ‘rogue agents’. We find it is often a double edged sword reporting on it as so many people read into it what suits them. And the result is often that reputable small businesses suffer and the rogues continue regardless. What would be your advice on how to ascertain a real rogue? A real rogue agent will ask you for lots of money up front to make a portfolio, often asking kids that have no chance of ever making it. Don’t get conned into paying vast sums for “professional” pictures that you don’t need. If an agency likes you they will take you on without any pictures.
“
What would be your top tips for an aspiring model looking to become signed? Music festivals have always been great places to get scouted. Don’t wear too much make up, don’t cover yourself in fluorescent paint or a strange fancy dress outfit. If I can’t see you, I can’t scout you. Also come down to the agency and see us. Most agencies have open call times. We are always happy to meet and offer advice, but remember we are looking for the taller kids so if you are under 5’8 for a girl and 6’ for a boy it’s going to be tricky. Of course there are exceptions but this is the general rule across the board for agencies as a requirement. What is next for you? Organising the scouting calendar for 2014!

Britain’s Got Talent judge says of her involvement with the auction, “I am delighted to contribute to the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Charity Auction and help raise £1 million for cancer services. Sir Bobby was renowned for his passion and positivity, qualities that went well beyond the football field and inspired people across the country. Together we can make a difference.” Proudly backed by headline supporter BT Sport, Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough auction items for 2013 included a VIP trip to next year’s F1 in Monaco by private ‘Eclipse’ jet, incredible sporting art from Ben Mosley, a week sailing on a luxury catamaran ‘Akasha’, the

Here at EM Magazine we actively encourage charity fund raising. To the ‘celebrity critics’ complaining about ‘today’s world’ and their negative view in respect of celebrity status... just give a little consideration to the good work so many do as a direct result of their ‘celebrity status in today’s world’. Sadly cancer and other such killers also exist today and every day. We applaude the celebs and their involvement and as tribute to them we bring you this review of their worthy work well done.

A trip to paradise
W
inter sun doesn’t come brighter than on the exquisite island
of Mauritius. As part of her beach beauty prize in the Miss England competition won by Charlie Machin earlier in 2013 was a trip to paradise. Accompanied by EM Editor Ruthie D, Miss England Kirsty Hesslewood, Mr England Jordan Williams, Miss England representative Brankica Drinic and the Miss and Mr England mums, the UK crew were treated to a VIP welcome with their every need catered for. Their first destination being the beautiful Ambre Hotel located in Palmar, on the east coast of Mauritius. A warm welcome by the team at the Ambre was suggestive of what was to be a truly well catered for stay. With shoot locations in every corner this was the perfect base. White sand, turquoise sea, contrasting volcanic rock and a deep blue sky. Ruthie D was ready to start capturing images from the
second she laid eyes on it. A coastline that only dreams are made of, sunshine, fabulous hosts, amazing food... and we returned to the UK why exactly? A jam packed schedule organised by the Mauritian Tourist Association included visits to the capital Port Louis, parasailing, horse riding, a tour of historic Châteaux Labourdonnais, meeting ‘Big Daddy’ a giant tortoise, quad biking, the races at Champ de Mars, Mahebourg market, the glass gallery and tea factory, walking through the Indian Ocean to the remote Island of
Ile aux Cerfs, golf, Sega and Salsa dancing, photo shoots, dinners, lunches and 5am call times. This certainly was a full and varied trip to remember. If you have never seen the Southern skies and true magic of a tropical coastline, then Mauritius does not disappoint. With temperatures reaching the mid thirties, winter sun is pretty much guaranteed. An occasional rainfall is a refreshing welcome to the unaccustomed visitor. The sound of tropical birds with flashes of bright reds, yellows and greens, coupled
with the gentle whisper of soft waves of the ocean become your morning normality. Breakfast on the beach, lunch in the woods and dinner with the crew was time to take a breath and relax from the heat of the day. A huge thank you in particular to all the staff and management at the Ambre Hotel, the MTPA, Bran for taking good care of the crews every need, Jenny at Long beach and to Miss England Limited.

Charlie’s Diary So what have I been up to since the last time you all heard from me? 18
Every Model Magazine
As you all know since being involved with the fabulous EM magazine I have been signed with Model Union and attending castings and trying out for that big break. I'm still waiting for that day but as for now the experience of it all is amazing and I'm enjoying every second of making my
modelling career a success. As well as this you all know I now also work for Hollister. Another position I gained as a result of my self confidence being raised by being involved with the EM Mag Miss Every Model title. I'm working shifts and getting on with all the other models and managers there and always having my pictures taken for possible castings that as a model I can be sent to attend which is great and helps a lot with my modelling career. Originally I came second in the beach beauty round at the Miss England 2013 competition earlier this year, but due to the original winner Nena France not being able to claim her prize for modelling reasons, I was lucky enough to take her spot and was given the amazing opportunity to go to Mauritius. As a group including the reigning Miss England Kirsty Hesslewood and Mr England Jordan Williams, their respective mums, Ruthie Deane and from the Miss England office the lovely Bran, we jetted off to the paradise island for 10
days. I experienced great food, people, culture and the best scenery and attractions I have ever seen. A part of my prize was also to receive a photo shoot wearing Sandstorm Luxury swimwear. I wore several gorgeous bikinis and had lots of fun shooting on the amazing Mauritian coastline. We got some great shots as you will see in this edition. It was a fabulous trip, that included a busy schedule of activities and press conferences. I was given golf lessons alongside Mr and Miss England which were so much fun. My favourite part of being there was going to a children's home, where it was very much made a reality of how some children have to deal with extreme disadvantage. But aside from the overwhelming sense we all felt on this visit our tears flowed simply to see them with such
bold, outgoing and extremely happy personalities. It made me realise I would like to work more with these kinds of charities and do as much as I can to make a difference. I was so sad to leave the island but I will definitely be returning. I would like to thank everyone involved especially Angie Beasley for giving me this amazing opportunity and I will remember it for a life time. Also Sandstorm for providing me with my beach wear, Fake Bake for their fab products and of course the MTPA who
organised the trip for us. I am looking forward to now being involved in the
search for the next face of EM Magazine. If you would like to be considered email the magazine at info@emmagazine. co.uk. And it could be you living the dream just like I have.

the ‘selfie’ what is it doing to our photogr aphs?
Whilst the new mobile cult is a handy and quick way forward for global sharing, it isn’t a true representation of great photography and is by no means a replacement for pieces of art that only a true piece of photography can create.
T
he social networking horror of that innocent picture of you captured at the dodgiest angle with a flash that gives you devil eyes and pale skin, broadcasted by ‘a friend’ to the World of social networking without ‘copyright approval’, happens to us all. Thanks to privacy settings you can at least savour your pride to some extent, but the subconscious torture remains that the fabulous persona you are creating for yourself is somewhere being
“A vain bunch of ‘selfie’ obsessed people.” shattered on another’s profile. Welcome Instagram. Don’t get too excited, like many good things there is a clause, it’s only for iPhone users. But within minutes of discovering such information and seconds of toying between vanity and my treasured BlackBerry Messenger
I ditched my BB friends and headed to the Apple store. Though I still haven’t found the Victoria Secret’s Model filter, everything looks undoubtedly more beautiful and so I am a fan. If you’re not yet judging me on my vanity issue but instead relate and think this column reflects perfectly normal thinking then like me (in the best possible way, of course) we need to get a grip! The result of these ‘harmless’ filters have had a knock on effect, creating a vain bunch of ‘selfie’ obsessed people
that freak out if they haven’t been Instagrammed. Basically, US! Excluding the mental repercussions, this social networking development has also affected industries such as photography, modelling and syndication. If how isn’t automatically obvious, let me be the bearer of bad news and explain. Firstly, take the photography industry; there are fantastic pieces of kit available such as mobile devices with built-in HDR cameras producing pictures that when uploaded online or shown on the sharp resolution of a mobile screen look impressive. But it’s the impressive part that dilutes from the professional, digital images shot in the ‘old skool’ fashion of setting up lights and doing things properly, if you will. I have to keep re-instilling into models and photographers that whilst this new mobile cult is a handy and quick way forward for global sharing, it isn’t a true representation of great photography. Plus it all links to the creation of the social networking narcissism. I know many Photographers and Models who have actually deleted a ‘selfie’ or behind-the-scenes shot because it hasn’t received the amount of likes or retweets they were bargaining for. In short, this Instagram, snappy-snap crazed photography, though cool, is by no means a replacement for pieces of art that only a true piece of photography can create. Just from a technical perspective alone, the mobile cameras and effects are definitely no
competitor for the specialised Photoshop and resolution of a professional camera. Following on, the content uploaded freely from mobiles to Twitter, for example, sacrifices any copyright ownership meaning online media and publications can utilise the images for stories and features. This not only cheapens the look of a feature stylistically but also most importantly is of no benefit financially to the subject who is being written about. Those who want to generate an income from their picture sales through syndication should avoid uploading free content
“Mobile cameras and effects are definitely no competitor for Photoshop and resolution of a professional camera.” to social networking profiles. Furthermore, when published the pictures do not slightly compare to what we usually associate with our beloved celebrities. Finally, aside from the financial effects, for models wanting to establish a celebrity career, over diluting themselves on the web can lead to a lack of
interest or moreover, a decrease in rates for cover shoots simply because it isn’t technically exclusive content. The latter particularly applies to glamour models working past implied topless. For models, I worry genuinely about the effects of social networking. I am somewhat getting bored by just seeing selfie, after selfie, after selfie to the point I want to comment, ‘Yes, you look stunning but can we see something else please?!’ For those who want to be models but maybe haven’t quite got what it takes to make it, the snappysnap is a confidence booster as they pose in provocative ways and give a pout to their followers and fans, in return for tens and hundreds of likes. In the grand scheme of things, it all seems harmless but they are also prey for having their dreams shattered by agency rejections. In conclusion, I guess I’m just saying, not to lose sight of reality. It’s very easy to with social networking- I do it. We can create a dream World, uploading only the best bits- the edited version- but behind the camera is what’s actually happening here and now with real people. Use your lens and your mind to capture those bits because whilst you’re just snapping your selfie, someone just got away, just bagged a job, just moved on with their life.

WINTER SKIN CARE TIPS FOR MEN
Don’t use a moisturiser that contains alcohol or perfume after shaving, use a gentle moisturiser. It’s essential to moisturise to rehydrate the skin as shaving will strip the skin of its natural moisture.
hands. For best results, gently warm the olive oil (warm not hot), apply to your hands and then cover your hands with a pair of cotton socks. Leave for a few hours or for even better results, leave on overnight.
Do use a face gel/wash for oily, combination skin when cleansing – and a cream cleanser for dry skin.
Don’t leave sweaty skin after a workout. If you notice breakouts on your body after exercising, use a medicated wash to cleanse the skin as soon as possible after each session. If you don’t have time to shower, quickly wipe over your skin with a clean, cotton flannel and change out of your sweaty workout clothes. Always use a clean flannel and towel.
Don’t dry shave, this can seriously irritate and dry out the skin. Always use a shaving gel or oil. If you have sensitive skin, avoid any products that contain menthol. Whilst a useful ingedient, can be harsh on the skin.
Do use any brand. When it comes to skincare, you don’t have to use just the brands targeted for men. If you have similar skin complaints to your girlfriend/mother/sister ask to try their products to see how they work for you.

Turning to the Paelo Diet I appear to be able to eat as much as I want and never feel hungry. I don’t really like calling it a diet as for me it’s about managing my lifestyle around the various paelo food groups I can have. The best thing is there is no calorie counting, no diet shakes, and you can eat as much as you want. It has been shown that eating more regularly speeds up your metabolism and you’re less likely to gain weight.* Basically think ‘caveman’. If our hunter-gatherer ancestors could get their hands on it, you can eat it and as much as you want. (Preferably grass-produced or free-range.) These food groups include; meat (beef, pork, lamb, poultry, fish, seafood) eggs, vegetables, fresh fruits, seeds, nuts and healthy oils (olive, coconut, avocado, macadamia, walnut and flaxseed.)
*may not apply to everybody
Foods NOT part of our ancestral menu were; dairy products, bread, cereal grains, legumes, refined sugars and processed foods. There has been much research that this way of eating can reduce obesity, bloating, acne, cardiovascular disease, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure,
cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and much more. I think I had a kind of epiphany at the end of the summer and I realised that I couldn’t keep eating what I wanted. I have found a new interest and value for food. Even as Miss England, and after winning the Miss World beach body I can honestly say I did not diet. I remember eating a dominos pizza the night before I left for Miss World, and eating whatever I felt like during the entire three weeks of the competition. I admit that I did have an amazing personal trainer in the build up to Miss World, who showed me how to take care of my body through exercise. But I had never had a nutritionist to show me how to take care of my body through what I eat. I get much enjoyment out of exercising, but in the real world people
cannot have a personal trainer to train them every day. Even if you have one for a certain period of time, it is ultimately up to you to manage your body. I was sick of ‘quick fixes’ and ‘yo-yo diets’ where I would even crash diet and increase my exercising two weeks before a photo shoot. This would stress me out and leave me with low energy levels. It is also most certainly not something I would advocate anyone to do. After putting myself through such torture I would binge eat on whatever I could get my hands on. Chocolate, chips, cheese. I have now learnt this is incredibly bad for you and can’t believe what I have been putting my body through. I bet it didn’t know whether it was coming or going. No wonder I was the grumpiest girl alive during this crazy yo-yoing. People didn’t want to mess with me I can tell you. I remember once crying on a plane to sunny Portugal because I was not feeling happy with myself. The poor boyfriend had to calm me down to make sure nobody noticed. Surely that’s not normal is it? Anyway I was determined to find a healthy solution to my body image madness. I am not saying I strictly eat paleo seven days a week. I have a cheat meal if my body is craving it. I ‘m young really love eating all types of food. I don’t binge on whatever junk food I can get my hands on, but I will allow myself a nice meal, for instance
sushi, a hearty pub meal, a glass of red wine or even a dessert for my sweet tooth. What I have learnt with paleo when you really look into it is that there is so much choice to make food interesting. At the moment I am hooked on omelettes (without milk) with various fillings, they are so quick to make and taste delicious. If I am craving carbs I eat sweet potato and butternut squash. After the first month experts recommend the 85/15 approach, meaning 85% of the time you’re strictly paleo, leaving 15% for non-paleo stuff. I consider this to be more of a lifestyle choice. When I am eating paleo I feel good on the outside and I know it’s also benefitting me on the inside. I am eating not just to look good but to feel good. I’m not just taking care of my appearance I know it is also benefitting my health. The change in myself mentally and physically is outstanding. I have much more energy and I am generally happier. I simply call it ‘eating clean’. I have finally stopped yoyo-ing and acting crazy. I have found new food groups to try out, which taste amazing and are good for you. All of this I find highly interesting and exciting. For me it’s a no brainer to go paleo. Go Paleo!

MODEL SEARCH 2013 The much awaited final selection of our mini model search took place on Sunday 20th October at Rye-House Kart Raceway. The finalists selected were invited to attend a fun day out at Rye-House Kart Raceway and park in October. Twenty one children and their parents and relatives arrived at 10 am to meet the EM and Rye-House teams. Once in their personalised and named mini model t-shirts
the children were able to take a trip around the fabulous RyeAssic adventure park, meeting the dinosaurs along their way. In groups of four the children were also invited to the go-kart track and drive one themselves. All kitted up with protective suits and helmets and given a full safety demonstration, they all had an exciting drive around the specifically designed junior track. Thankfully, one of the wettest days of the year did give us all a few hours grace
to enjoy the outdoors and all the park had to offer. All finalists were able to meet with the judging panel at the same time as having an enjoyable day. Watching the children at play was designed to ensure minimum pressure for the children at the same time as offering the industry professionals a considered time period to make their decision as to who would win the modelling contract and prizes. With such a high standard of finalists the decision was
Competition disclaimer The costs involved in being part of this model search are nominal and well below considered industry standard fees. We do our utmost to offer high level opportunities at nominal costs at the same time as providing a fun and educational experience. The contest is free to enter by sending two photographs to info@emmagazine.co.uk. A judging panel will select from photographic entry those considered to be suitable for audition. A nominal audition fee, which includes a professional photograph, is chargeable for this at ÂŁ25. If successful and invited to take part in the final selection fun day out, a sponsorship fee is payable of ÂŁ120 plus ÂŁ20 for a competition tee-shirt. This can be paid by a corporate sponsor who in return will receive an advertisement within EM Magazine for above the value of the sponsorship fee. Parents may opt to pay the fee themselves if they wish. The sponsorship element pays for the competition to run and provides the children with a fun experience, day out and the chance to win a professional modelling signing along with various other prizes. To enter the competition is entirely down to choice. Applicants and or parents/guardians may withdraw from the contest at any time. Sponsorship is not refundable if paid prior to any withdrawal of the contest. All details are provided on our website and available for public view throughout the duration of the contest. www. everymodelmagazine.co.uk.Audition / photographic fees are non-refundable. This is not an upfront fee and must not be mistaken as such. An upfront fee for joining a modelling or recruitment agency is against the law. FASHION
Isabella Lombardini talks to fashion designer Rita Roushdy about her image, influences and intentions... model: sophie hannah gr adon photogr ahy by: marie harkness shoot location: crook hall clothes; made to order
Can you explain a little about who you are and your background to our readers? Well let me start by telling you that I am originally from Cairo, Egypt, but currently living in the Northeast. I have studied Fashion Product and Promotion at University of Sunderland and I graduated in June last year, which was the best possible course for me as it included every aspect of fashion from design and garment development to photography and styling. You may also be interested to know that I am the director and producer of ELEVON, an idea which started as a marketing tool for my fashion label, but later turned into a separate venture with massive potential and so a second business plan was formed. I now run Elevon, which is a fashion show company that builds a platform specifically for new and upcoming fashion designers to be introduced to the public and hence endorsing more people to be individual as there will be more option to them when shopping.

Tell us about your brand and what it represents? I’ve always known I wanted to be a fashion designer! Independence is a big goal for me and therefore is a major aspect which I want to incorporate in my label. As soon as I graduated I went onto a small business course
with PNE Enterprise who have helped me build a business plan. My brand unites both the edgy and the feminine side of every woman; for instance my current line is a combination of leather and lightweight fabric that creates a voluptuous effect. Who influences you as a designer? Christian Dior is my all time favorite designer. Dior’s creative and feminine silhouette defines his brand identity, which I have taken on as an inspiration to build on for my own brand. I love the way he creates curvaceous silhouettes using wasp-waisted base and hip padding. How would you describe yourself in five words?
I would describe myself as ambitious and dedicated; I find myself aiming for the sky, I have so many ideas that I want to bring to life and sometimes have to keep reminding myself to devote my time to one thing at a time instead of getting too excited at my many future prospects. In saying that, being positive is also an important trait that I posses. I’m adventurous; I love travelling and exploring this beautiful world. I’m very creative; I’m dedicated to trying new things and experimenting with innovative ideas, and how I can bring these to life in my creations. Where do you get your inspiration? The tulip flower inspires the feminine aspect of my brand, using various shapes and vibrant colors for the foundation of my designs; combined with the very hard, sculptural exterior of a warrior’s armour the contrary aspect of the brand. It’s all about the hard sculptured leather versus lightweight fabric, which creates a beautiful and edgy piece all in one. What was your favourite collection from the recent September fashion weeks? Oh my, all fashion weeks? Wow that’s a hard decision! I’m in love with the Dolce & Gabbana collection this season, I found it was very

charming and enchanting, I admire the way they’ve kept a natural rosy glow to the make up, and threading golden medallions through the hair. But of course the Dior collection is also up with my top of this seasons’ collection. Who was your inspiration for the upcoming collection? My upcoming collection has taken a little inspiration from Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty collection, using the moulded leather torso as my inspiration for the heavyweight aspect of the main garment, which contrasts the float and voluptuous skirts.
Define your perfect model and target audience? My perfect model has got to have a healthy glow I prefer someone who is toned and confident with the way they look as to skinny size zero models. My target audience is anyone who is enthused by individuality. Where do you see yourself in five years time? I see myself going international with both brands; Roushdy and Elevon. They both will be working in compliment with each other. In five years, I see myself showcasing in other countries in Europe as well as the UK.

DW Wow really, where does the time go? The good thing is we're still talking to each other LOL. My favourite cover? That's a tough one. I still really like the cover with Carmen (Nevs), she was stunning and still is. (March 2009)

RD What are you doing now?
DW I'm still taking pictures. I'm lucky, I get to be a little more discerning about the work I do and don't do, its very rare for me these days to take on any project that I don't feel. I am a panel advisor to the London College of Fashion, which is an amazing place to learn the world of fashion and photography. The courses,

to themselves of course haha. Preparation is the winner here, be fluid and spontaneous yes, but do that inside a framework, that way you don't forget something just because you got excited about a particular look. RD Who inspires you?
DW Lots of people and all sorts of things inspire me, everyday life has to be the biggest influence on what I do and how I do it, there is always something
“If you haven’t tried everything, how can you know?” that sets off a spark of imagination. If you haven't tried everything, how can you know? In terms of artists and photographers, I am always in awe of the amazing penmanship of the extremely talented Luis
Royo, his passion is evident in every image he creates, even his simple sketches. Photographers are a little more complicated as I tend to like image sets rather than a photographer carte blanche. A couple of names do spring to mind though, Kai Z Feng, Vincent Peters and Clive Arrowsmith, all are very gifted and have a very cool way of seeing things. Young talent can be very inspiring, a child's mind isn't cluttered by the other stuff and as such they see things we as grownups have long forgotten; a reminder that everything is possible. RD Top photography tip?
DW Not sure how technical you guys want this so I'll go with a must have piece of kit, a good 50mm lens just has to be in your kit. Great for everything and will definitely get you out of trouble. RD Top model tip?

DW Hahaha, we don't know, what we don't know
as they say, so how "Wise" am I? Wiser than yesterday but not as wise as I will be tomorrow. My ultimate words of wisdom, well that has to be "Just do your own thing", there will always be those that love/loathe what you're doing; who cares about them? OUT & ABOUT with Laura C
A great element of my job is getting out and about at the same time as sampling the latest beauty treatments and visiting relaxing sanctuaries of calm. EM sent me to the Ayurveda Spa. When arriving at North Greenwich Tube station I was taken aback by the enormity of the O2 Millennium Dome construction, and its slightly desolate surroundings. It was almost impossible to imagine that there could be an award winning spa situated somewhere near by. As I started walking and following my trusty iPhone maps, I was looking forward to some pure relaxation 68

time, away from all the city madness. When I finally reached the spa, I walked inside the adjoining Health Coffee shop entrance and was greeted by the lovely Spa Manager. After the usual filling out of forms necessities I was shown through into a lovely atmospheric, relaxing and well prepared treatment room in which I was then greeted by Dr Deepa Apte, one of the UK’s
leading Ayurvedic doctors. Dr Apte gave me a wonderful explanation of the upcoming Ayurvedic Whole Body Treatment I was to receive a few moments later, and went on to explain the methods and beliefs they use in the spa. Dr Apte is an expert in Ayurveda or ‘The Science of Life’ and believes that there are 3 types of person, Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water) and Kapha (water and earth). Every individual has within
them all three bio-physical forces, but it is the dominance of any one or two or all three that makes up a persons individual constitution. After talking to you for a while, asking you key questions about your lifestyle, health and routine, as well as taking your pulse and checking your tongue, Dr Apte is able to distinguish which body type you are. Dr Apte then goes on to suggest the type of massage that best suits you. I was subscribed a Ayurvedic Whole Body Massage which consisted of large flowing movements over the whole
body with sesame seed oil. Needless to say that afterwards I felt relaxed, and rejuvenated. After my shower, there was an organic tea waiting for me, by Dr Apte’s, Holistic Essentials, which also includes fabulous Organic Facial and Body products. There is a small vegetarian health café attached to the spa which is great for light bites and lunches. If you work in or around The City, you must try this little sanctuary away from the madness of London life.
