sessions such as neighbourhood walks, making your own dream catcher, or preparing healthy snacks for kids, means that there are many different ways to get involved and fuel your creativity. They are all free to attend and open to everyone.
WHAT IS EVERY ONE EVERY DAY ABOUT? Practical ‘hands on’ sessions brought to you by local residents. Every One Every Day brings together people from different parts of the North End neighbourhood to create and learn from one another. These projects involve sharing spaces, skills and resources. They range from batch cooking and community meals, getting outside to explore the neighbourhood, sharing cultural knowledge and traditions, as well as making, crafting, building, repairing and much more. Support with getting things going in your neighbourhood. The Every One Every Day team is here to help take care of all the essentials such as finding spaces, purchasing materials, ensuring the health and safety and inviting others to take part. To create the March Program, we worked with residents to surface their ideas and bring them to life in the neighbourhood. We hope it will spark more ideas and creativity around future projects that we can grow together.

Halifax’s North End is home to many local organizations and businesses that support and connect our community. The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is one of these spaces and will host many of the activities for Every One Every Day, along with other nearby locations that are able to safely open their doors at this time. Covid 19 Restrictions may mean that the in person meet ups will move online, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates!

WIJE’WINEN
THE MI’KMAW NATIVE FRIENDSHIP CENTRE HAS A BOLD VISION FOR A NEW FRIENDSHIP CENTRE IN THE HEART OF KJIPUKTUK/HALIFAX. Designed as Halifax’s first ever Indigenous inspired and informed building, and a place of reconciliation, the new building will honour the contributions of Indigenous Peoples to the region’s culture and history. It will provide individuals and communities with a place to gather, learn, and participate in events and cultural activities. While offering culturally relevant programs and services for Indigenous Peoples, it also aims to instill pride in the whole community and serve as a highly visible emblem of reconciliation that welcomes everyone.

neighbourhoods across Kjipuktuk/Halifax. It is an invitation for North End neighbours to connect and learn over shared interests and build new relationships across different parts of the neighbourhood. Central to these interactions is respectful learning and sharing across the histories and cultures that make up the places we call home. In this newspaper you will discover a 4-week March Program that is the beginning of Every One Every Day - and we hope it will become so much more over time. It is made possible by local residents coming together to share their ideas, time and skills, for mutual community benefit. Taken together, and with all the wonderful spaces and projects that already exist in the North End, this vibrant and welcoming network of practical participation opportunities can help to create an optimistic vision of the future - making it a place where everyone’s contributions are important and vital. Over time, and with the necessary support, we hope these projects may develop into a dense network of participation opportunities that will generate many benefits for people and their families directly, and for the neighbourhood as a whole. THE WINDOW PROJECT THIS MARCH, RE-DISCOVER THE NORTH END THROUGH THE EYES OF YOUR NEIGHBOURS CREATIVITY! Welcome to the Window Project! This project is all about getting creative at home and sharing some positivity through your own windows. It’s a wonderful way to share your creative side and uplift other people living in the neighbourhood. You don’t need to be an artist to create some window art, just use what’s in the kit, add a bit of imagination and start decorating! This year has been difficult for all of us and the pandemic has restricted important things such as getting together and seeing people face to face. Why not take some time to think of something that brings you joy and share it through your window creation? It could be a favorite place, a memory, or something you like to do - whatever makes you happy! Once you’ve completed your window project, we would LOVE for you to share a photo on the facebook page, or send it to the team via email. We’ll post the window photos on our website for all to enjoy. Why not take a stroll around your neighbourhood to see who else took part in the window project!?!
QUICK GUIDE TO CREATING YOUR WINDOW DISPLAY 1.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY? What makes you happy?
2.
LOOK AT YOUR WINDOW FROM THE OUTSIDE See what your neighbours will see when looking at your display.
3.
YOUR MATERIALS The Kit includes everything you need. Source some tape and you are ready to go.
4.
DRAW YOUR DESIGN TO SCALE You can use the grid method (google for examples) to make sure your whole window is used or you can freestyle it. Don’t forget, everything is reversed when looking from the outside in.
5.
TIME YOU SPEND It’s a fun activity so take as little or as long as you like.
6.
KEEP IT SIMPLE! Simple designs are easy for viewers to appreciate as they walk past.
