Five hot decorating trends to make your home interiors pop (BPT) - Looking for ways to switch up your style this year? From the right patterns and colors to impressive accents, the latest home design trends will keep your space looking fresh and fabulous in 2014. “Now more than ever, homeowners are willing to experiment with design,” says Taniya Nayak, interior designer and DIY television personality. “The start of the new year is the perfect time to add character and personality with unique details, patterns and pops of color.” Here are the top five home decor trends Nayak predicts will make a big impact in 2014: * Painted detail on furniture pieces A hot trend in 2014 is to bring flea-market furniture back to life with painted patterns and details. “Refurbishing old furniture pieces is a popular - and easy - look to achieve,” says Nayak. “All you need is a little bit of paint and a lot of creativity.” New pre-cut, patterned painter’s tape makes this simple project much easier. FrogTape Shape Tape is available in three of the most on-trend patterns: chevron, wave and scallop. Before painting, simply apply the tape in the desired pattern on a hand-me-down or thrift store find to create a custom piece for your home. Plus, since Shape Tape is treated with patented PaintBlock Technology, you’ll create super-sharp lines and help prevent paint bleed. * White hot White is a mainstay in home design. It’s timeless, classic and extremely versatile. In 2014, try pairing white with different textures, like natural wood. You’ll create a unique focal point while highlighting other warm features in the room, as well. “Another method is to create contrast with white. Use a single, bold accent color, like yellow, fuchsia or navy, to move your eye across the space,” Nayak recommends. By simply rethinking how to use white, your home will be a warm and inviting haven all year long. * What’s old is new again: vintage details You can create a home filled with vintage details, regardless of the age of your house. In 2014, try using muted color palettes, like gray, taupe or certain shades of green or rose, and industrial accents to transform its appearance. “Incorporating pieces of distressed wood will also add to the overall vintage effect,” adds Nayak. “You can create this look - even with pristine lumber - by adding nicks and scrapes

to the surface with a heavy metal chain and a hammer. Once you’ve added the desired amount of distress, cover the wood with a dark stain. Quickly wipe away, allowing the color to settle into the imperfections.” Whether it’s displayed prominently as a focal point, or used sparingly on accent pieces, distressed wood elements will help tie the vintage trend together. * Masculine meets feminine “Merging styles to make the entire family happy is not always easy,” says Nayak. Instead of looking too rugged or too girly, a key trend in 2014 is to blend both masculine and feminine components into your home design. “Combining two styles doesn’t mean the end result will be safe or boring. There are a number of creative solutions that will satisfy everyone’s tastes while making an impressive design statement.” Try painting a design on a wood floor. This technique allows the raw, masculine features of the wood to show through, while introducing a feminine overlay of patterns or colors. Popular patterns include quatrefoil, herringbone and modern floral designs. * Metallic finishes and accents Using metallic accents creates the perfect finishing touch in any room of the house. “The right accessories, like eye-catching metallic, make any space look and feel complete,” says Nayak. In 2014, the hottest finishes include brass and antiqued mirrors: both add depth, light and just enough sheen to make accents feel extra special. Best of all, there are a number of quick and easy DIY projects you can complete to bring this trend into your home. One is to spray paint branches silver or gold and then pop them in a vase - it will add instant glamour and help your home design shine well into in the new year.

Easy ways to improve your pet’s quality of life (BPT) - Pet ownership is more than just a privilege - it is a responsibility. While pet owners spend ample time and money purchasing elaborate outfits, accessories and toys for their pets, what truly matters is when owners take the initiative to install healthy habits and routines that enhance their pets’ lives. Across America, veterinarians have witnessed a decline in annual vet visits, resulting in increased rates of preventable diseases in both cats and dogs. In fact, about 54 percent of the nation’s cats and dogs are reported to be obese. As a result, diabetes, heart disease and arthritis are on the rise - diseases that are preventable if identified early on. “Many pet owners are too busy or just skip annual checkups,” says Ron DeHaven, DVM and chairman for Partners for Healthy Pets, a committee of the non-profit American Veterinary Medical Foundation that was created to ensure that pets receive preventive health care. “That’s why we have seen an increase in preventable diseases in cats and dogs. What we need to be sure pet owners realize is that annual veterinary checkups are as important as food and love to a pet’s health and well-being.” By committing your pet to a healthy routine, you can do your part to ensure they live the happiest, longest life possible. If you want the best for your pet, forget the chevron-striped collar this year and instead focus on these simple tips:

Schedule annual checkups No one knows your pet as well as you do, but veterinarians are trained to detect diseases before they become costly issues for both you and your pet. Make it a habit to schedule an annual checkup for your pet every year, using your pet’s birthday or adoption date as a reminder. There is no better gift you can give to your pet than a long, healthy life and annual checkups are an easy way to ensure your pet is receiving preventive care on a regular basis.

Easy ways to improve your pet’s quality of life Provide a proper diet You love your pet and your pet loves treats, but feeding your pet an excessive amount of food and spoiling them with treats can lead to rapid weight gain. If you are not sure how much you should be feeding your pet, consult your veterinarian. Simple dietary swap-outs can help your pet maintain a healthy weight and decrease the chances of developing health complications. Exercise regularly It seems like a simple thing to remember. However, busy schedules and daily stresses often cause people to either forget to exercise their pet or move it to the bottom of the to-do list. Commit yourself and your pet to

a consistent exercise routine. Only have 10 minutes to take Spot to the park? That’s OK too. Small intervals of exercise each day can make a world of difference long-term. Offer love and affection Anyone who has loved a pet can testify to the relationship’s emotional benefits. The warm welcome you receive at the front door after a long day at work, the wagging tail you hear as you prepare your pet’s dinner and the head nestled in your lap each night as you watch the news are only some of the rewards of being a dog owner. It is important to reciprocate this love even in small ways, such as a quick scratch behind the ears or tossing a tennis ball around the back yard. Caring for your pet with enduring love and affection will bring you happiness and help enhance your morale daily.

Personalized Valentines that last all year long (BPT) - Americans spent more than $13 billion on Valentine’s Day gifts last year. Sixty-four percent of men gave their significant other flowers and a card, and took them out to dinner, according to the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association. Valentine’s Day is full of expectations, so how do you show your unique appreciation and love by doing the same thing everybody else does on that same exact day? The answer: You don’t. People associate Valentine’s Day with love and romance but you don’t have to limit the experience to just that one day. With a little thought, you can show you care all throughout the year. Here are some ideas. Engrave your love Make the romance last with a gift of engraved jewelry this Valentine’s Day, says Amy Myers, vice president of creative services at Things Remembered. “When you give engraved jewelry, you give a memory,” says Myers. “You can tell her how much you love her smile and how much she means to you today and every day. She will think of you every time she wears it, so the feeling and the meaning behind your gift lasts long past Feb.14.” Things Remembered also offers engraved jewelry and accessories for men, including dog tag necklaces, wallets, ID bracelets, key chains, watches and pocket knives. “You can create a really unique and special gift for the man in your life that he can wear under his shirt or on his wrist without getting a ribbing from the guys,” Myers says. “We can engrave your message for him so only he can see it.” Things Remembered also offers a buy online and pick up in store option so you can order that necklace or bracelet on the sly. Personalized Valentines that last all year long A poet and you didn’t know it

Love in bloom

Wow her with an amazing poem from your heart. If you’re not the modern day version of E.E. Cummings, don’t worry. Consider printing out the lyrics to “your” song or perhaps a few lines from her favorite romantic movie that convey your love.

More than 51 percent of people will buy red roses for Valentine’s Day but let’s face it - flowers wilt. How does a guy who can’t remember that thing about the toilet seat remember to send flowers “just because” after Valentine’s Day?

Frame the poem or printed lyrics for her nightstand or desk so that she may be reminded of the love you share. And, of course, to prevent those special words from getting shoved in a drawer or taped into a scrapbook like the 151 million greeting cards that are exchanged for Valentine’s Day each year.

The answer is as simple as your local florist. Most florists will take payment in advance for planned bouquet deliveries so you can set up fresh flower gifts every month throughout the year while only actually thinking about it once a year. It’s one thing to be romantic one day of the year but true romance stands the test of time. Keep the passion alive and give a lasting spark to your relationship long after the Valentine’s Day chocolates are gone.

Budget-friendly ideas for creating an impressive entertaining space (BPT) - Each year there is a plethora of sports games, birthday parties and holidays to celebrate with friends and family. Now is the ideal time to create an impressive entertaining space in your home - one that you will be proud to share and truly enjoy throughout the year, whatever the occasion. The good news is, with a few simple strategies, it’s easy and affordable to create the perfect gathering area. Just imagine the memories your family will make snuggled on a plush new couch reading stories, or cheering their favorite soccer or football team to victory while watching a new flatscreen TV. You can set the stage to make a lasting impression by preparing your home now for guests. Here are easy ways to upgrade your space, and your electronics, without busting your budget. 1. Freshen furniture Whether guests stay for a few hours or a few days, you want them to be comfortable. Having adequate furniture is key. If your current couch and recliners are more shabby than chic, it’s time to upgrade. New, plush furniture can be within your budget with lease-to-own alternatives.

12 everythinglake.com

2. Accessorize One of the most affordable ways to give your family room a facelift is by strategically adding a few new decorative accessories. Whether you just got a new couch or want to update your current furniture, new pillows, throws and blankets are perfect for keeping guests toasty warm no matter how low the temperatures drop. Pillows are great for lounging and, when you’re hosting a large group, can be used on the floor to keep everyone comfy. A few good blankets - whether in a festive shade to celebrate a particular holiday or the hues of your favorite sport’s team - add a splash of personality while keeping guests cozy. 3. Electronic entertainment Setting the scene for the perfect party is easy when you have the right entertainment prepped beforehand. Start by having some music ready to get everyone in a festive mood from the moment they arrive. From traditional family favorites to modern tunes, music sets the tone when softly played in the background during the party. Your TV should be center stage, offering guests access to the big game, classic movies and much more. To really impress loved ones, a new flat screen TV is sure to “wow.” The entire family will enjoy fun entertainment options like an Xbox 360, Blu Ray DVD player or Smart Home Theater.

Budget-friendly ideas for creating an impressive entertaining space 4. Rethink the arrangement Before guests arrive, consider rearranging the rooms where people will congregate for optimal function at your party. Think about how guests will use the space and place furniture accordingly. Cluster seating together to encourage conversation, and face the main pieces of furniture toward a focal point, like the TV. By keeping flow and function in mind as your arrange the area, you’ll better define the space and maximize its potential use.

Food is often a part of celebrations and, whether you’re serving up game-day appetizers or traditional hors d’oeuvres, make sure it’s easy for your guests to grab snacks and go. Set up an appetizer table using affordable and convenient food prep tools, like slow cookers, to keep food hot and delicious. Guests will gobble up your dishes as they mingle and enjoy themselves. A good host knows preparation is key to a memorable party, so start today to ensure your home is ready for all the upcoming celebrations.

Firefighter’s Fund Raiser Story & Photos by Jennifer Moseley

The Eustis Fire Department along with the community came together to raise money to help one of their own Firefighter’s family. The Fire Department held a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser where the funds went directly to the Hodges Family. Will Hodges has been a Firefighter/EMT with the City of Eustis for over four years and he found out that his wife was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Jason Pepper, a Firefighter with the City of Eustis, helped to head up the dinner and gather donations for the event. They sold 281 dinners and raised over $3800 to help the Hodges family pay for medical bills. It is great to see everyone come together for a good cause and great food.

Three finalists selected for Teacher of the Year TAVARES — A caravan of officials from Lake County Schools and the Educational Foundation of Lake County visited Leesburg High, Round Lake Elementary Conversion Charter and Mount Dora Middle on Jan. 15 to deliver exciting news to three unsuspecting teachers, who were chosen as finalists for the Lake County Teacher of the Year. The teachers selected are Keith Hyndshaw at Leesburg High, Rachel Adams at Round Lake Elementary Conversion Charter and Tiffany Scott at Mount Dora Middle. Teachers at each school were selected for the honor by their peers. After filling out an application packet, the teachers’ applications were scored by a panel of six judges. Three judges will conduct a site interview with the finalists before making a final choice. Lake County Schools’ Teacher of the Year will be announced at a celebration dinner presented by the Educational Foundation of Lake County and sponsored by Duke Energy on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Lake Receptions in Mount Dora. Tickets can be reserved by calling (352) 326-1265. More information about the three finalists includes:

KEITH HYNDSHAW — With 19 years of teaching experience, Hyndshaw is a beloved social studies teacher at Leesburg High. “His constant drive to bring out the best of his students sets him apart,” said Bill Miller, Principal at Leesburg High. “He handles all the challenges students bring into his classroom. He has High expectations and doesn’t settle for substandard or average work.” A quote from Hyndshaw’s TOY application reads, “Beyond the academics, I believe it is the role of public education teachers to find the best in every kid, to believe in them and provide them with the confidence that they can be themselves and succeed in this world.”

RACHEL ADAMS — She has five years of teaching experience, including the last year as the fourth grade teacher at Round Lake Elementary. “She is beyond fantastic,” said Linda Bartberger, Principal at Round Lake Elementary. “She always has a positive outlook on everything. Each day is always something new and exciting.” A quote from Adams’ TOY application reads, “To a teacher, success is different, and only a teacher could understand the overwhelming joy that comes from seeing confidence build in the eyes of their students Without a doubt, our role as educators goes far beyond the four walls of our classroom, as we not only strive to impart knowledge, but to inspire students towards a passion for continual learning and growth.”

TIFFANY SCOTT — She has five years of teaching experience, including the last three years as a math teacher at Mount Dora Middle. “She is an asset to the community and school,” said Al Larry, Principal at Mount Dora Middle. “She goes beyond the obvious dilemmas children bring to school and gets them excited about math. Bottom line she is phenomenal.” A quote from Scott’s TOY application reads, “As a math teacher, my role within the public education system is to teach students the content but it is also my job to establish purpose and help the students make connections between the content and how it’s relevant in today’s society. As a teacher, I should provide opportunities for students to learn through discovery and self-interest. This process will allow students to become independent thinkers and increase their ability to retain the information learned for future application.”

I had heard a lot about this place and wanted to try it for myself. And what I ran into was not short of what people were saying. I was greeted by the owner, Gene Simmons,

when I got there. “We opened in 2004 and over the years as we grew we kept adding on” stated Gene. “ What makes us real special is that all the recipes have been tested and

The “Dam Smoker 36721 CR 19 Eustis Fl 352-357-6555 perfected by my wife and myself. The ribs are the best in the whole world and the chicken is not that far behind. All the sauces are created by us. All our sides are home made with the freshest ingredients.

The smoker is open from 11 am to 8 pm Thursday thru Sunday. They serve wine and beer with their bbq. They have live entertainment every Sunday from 1pm to 5pm in the back of the restaurant.

The restaurant consists of a deck in the front with tables. They have a dining area inside as well. The place is well decorated with ample place for people to feel right at home.

After my experience at the Dam Smoker, I will definitely be back for more.

I wanted to try a little bit of everything on the menu. I ordered the ribs, the chicken with the bbq beans, green beans, potato salad and the country coleslaw. The ribs were delicious. The sauce on them was on point and made them finger licking. The chicken was delicious. The meat fell right of the bones and the sauce to it to another level. The sides were fresh and tasty. Wow! What a meal.

It’s OK to cry: Expert tips for creating an emotionally charged Valentine’s Day card for your man (BPT) - With the onslaught of roses, hearts and cherubs, it’s easy to think Valentine’s Day is all about women, but men deserve something special too. You don’t need to gift luscious chocolates or a new designer watch to get the ultimate Valentine’s Day reaction. This year, more women are thinking ahead to create customized cards for their beaus that truly speak from the heart - and men are responding with tears of joy. An amazing Valentine’s Day card will tell the story of your relationship through beautiful images, heartfelt messages and premium materials, according to Joseph Joyce, creative director for online greeting card brand Cardstore.com. This visual representation of your love can tug at heartstrings. In fact, 88 percent of men and 90 percent of women say a strong man isn’t afraid to show his true emotions, according to a recent Cardstore. com survey conducted by Harris Interactive, and these cards may inspire just such an emotionally-fueled response. Joyce offers these tips for creating the perfect Valentine’s Day card for your man: 1. Take your time “Choose something you love about your relationship; it could be conversations you have, an activity you do together, parenting together, anything,” says Joyce. “Then, think about adjectives that describe the other 20 everythinglake.com

person in those situations: loving, happy, giving, thoughtful or romantic. This will help you choose a card that speaks to your relationship and help you decide if you’d like to be funny, romantic, thoughtful, or all of the above.” Don’t worry if you can’t think of the perfect card; take the stress out of finding the right one by leaving some time to look.- Browsing the fantastic options online is sure to get your creative juices flowing. 2. Be yourself Your Valentine’s Day card should represent you and the feelings you have for your partner. “Be yourself, speak from the heart, and let the card be the card,” says Joyce. “In other words, you don’t have to try to sound like a greeting card because that part’s already done for you. Just be honest and say what you feel.” 3. Incorporate photography “Do you have trouble deleting photos from your phone or computer? Me too,” says Joyce. “It’s because photos are so rich in detail and emotion, and one photo can tell the whole story of a single moment in time. Candid and un-posed shots are often the most authentic and memorable.”

It’s OK to cry: Expert tips for creating an emotionally charged Valentine’s Day card for your man Try choosing a photo that highlights an unforgettable moment you shared together and incorporate it into your card. You might tuck a printed photo inside the card, but to really impress, consider designing your card online with your personal photos. 4. Personalize “Personalization is a huge trend,” Joyce says. “Creating something custom for someone is very special, and easier with current technology. We also continue to see design trends like chalkboard, beautiful handlettering and flirty card-copy. Cardstore.com offers a wide variety of

customization options. After creating your one-of-a-kind card and adding a signature, let Cardstore handle the rest by stamping and mailing it for you! Remember, a card is more than just a piece of paper. It tells the recipient how you truly feel and, with the right touches, will inspire tears of joy, laughter and love. “People really like the keepsake aspect of the cards. With so many digital photos floating around, there’s something wonderful about a printed photo card on heavy paper stock that people love,” says Joyce. “Cards that tell your story, or have photos that are specific to your relationships, become more meaningful.”

Mom was right, you should eat more veggies - here’s how you do it (BPT) - With the new year upon us, people are thinking about changing their eating habits for the healthier. For many, that means vowing to eat more vegetables; the majority of Americans say they’ve been trying to eat more fruits and vegetables over the past year, according to a poll by the International Food Information Council Foundation. And, with good reason; eating plenty of vegetables and fruits can help ward off heart disease and stroke, control blood pressure and prevent some types of cancer, according to Harvard School of Public Health. How many servings of vegetables do we need to eat? The USDA recommends between two to three cups for most adults (more if you exercise more than 30 minutes per day) and between one to two and a half cups for kids. It may seem overwhelming to try to pack that many veggies into everyone’s daily meals, but there are actually a lot of fun, easy and delicious ways for the whole family to eat more vegetables. Let’s start with breakfast. Veggies may not be top of mind at this time of day, but it’s easy to sneak some into your first meal and get lots of nutrients to kick start your day. If you are a warm breakfast type of person, try adding spinach, peppers and tomatoes to your eggs in the morning, or make it easy and flavorful by adding salsa into a serving of scrambled eggs or on top of an omelet. If you’re a breakfast on the go type, throw some kale, 22 everythinglake.com

spinach, celery or cucumber, along with fruits like berries and bananas, into a smoothie and take it with you. Daring pairings: matching food and wine for the perfect Valentine’s Day meal (BPT) - There’s always a certain amount of trepidation at the thought of cooking Valentine’s Day dinner. Whether it’s an intimate meal for two or you’re cooking for a dozen of your closest friends, do you go out on a culinary limb and serve something impressively daring, or do you play it safe with a tried and true menu? If you decide to take a chance, how daring are you? And, if your menu is an adventure for the taste buds, what wine do you pair with it? Recently, malbec received praise for being a versatile wine and a great choice for food pairing. In fact, when surveyed, more than half of culinary professionals agreed that malbec pairs with many types of foods. Whether you’re serving something wildly daring, such as five-spice crusted short ribs with miso black garlic jus, or something mildly daring, like rigatoni with spicy salami and tomato sauce, you can’t go wrong pairing it with malbec. Alamos Malbec, America’s most preferred malbec, is grown in the foothills of the Andes Mountains in Argentina. The result is grapes that combine bold layers of flavor and excellent natural acidity for a wine that pairs beautifully with just about any Valentine’s Day meal.

Boomers: Are you asking your doctor these critical heart health questions? (BPT) - America’s baby boomers are a vibrant group of people who embrace the idea of aging well. A healthy heart is key to ensuring you can live life to the fullest no matter what your age. Even if you’re committed to taking care of your heart health, the amount of information available can be overwhelming, and you may not be aware of the most important topics to discuss with your doctor. Perhaps no one understands this better than Dr. Lee Friedman, a radiologist from St. Petersburg, Fla. When his doctor told him he needed a pacemaker, his heart health wasn’t the only thing affected; it could have affected his career too. Because historically pacemakers had not been approved in the U.S. for use with MRIs, Friedman worried he would no longer be able to work in radiology where he is around MRIs all day. He was also concerned he would not be able to get an MRI himself - a common medical diagnostic procedure - if he needed one in the future. Friedman asked his doctor many questions and learned that a Medtronic pacemaker with SureScan Technology was recently FDA-approved for use in an MRI environment. He was able to keep his job and today works closely with his physician to ensure ongoing heart health. “I was in the medical field and I didn’t even know there was a pacemaker available that would allow for MRI use. I’m glad I asked my doctor about it,” says Friedman. “It’s important that patients nowadays know their options 26 everythinglake.com

and have a role in the decision-making process. You can be your best patient advocate.” Your doctor is your No. 1 resource for understanding important heart health concerns during your golden years. Make an appointment to talk to your physician and be sure to ask these five critical heart health questions:

Boomers: Are you asking your doctor these critical heart health questions? 1. What is my risk for cardiovascular disease? By 2030, the American Heart Association projects that more than 40 percent of Americans will have some form of cardiovascular disease. This spike in numbers is largely due to the aging baby boomer population. Your doctor can give professional insight into risk factors, some of which include family heredity, obesity, diet and diabetes. 2. Are my numbers normal for cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose and body mass index? Similar to how a roadmap guides you from point A to point B, the results of preventive screenings give your doctor insight on your heart health today and where it might be in the future. Important screenings and numbers to know include cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose and body mass index. Ask your doctor if you’re in the normal range or if you should make lifestyle changes. 3. What foods and supplements can I take to support heart health? Diet plays an important role in the health of the heart, and boomers who eat nutritious meals can help keep their heart beating strong for years to come. Foods known to support heart health include anything containing whole grain, fresh fruits such as berries and oranges, and fresh vegetables like kale, carrots and tomatoes. Also ask your doctor about heart-healthy supplements that might be a good addition to your diet, such as an omega-3 or vitamin D supplement. 4. What are some exercises and physical activities I should consider? Just like your biceps or your calves, your heart is a muscle, and therefore it needs to be exercised to stay strong. Talk with your doctor about your current level of physical activity and what exercises you should add to your routine. Even small changes can have a big impact on maintaining appropriate body

weight and heart health. Try taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking in the back of the lot rather than the front - you’ll instantly boost your physical activity. 5. Will I ever need a pacemaker? You may not think you’ll ever need a pacemaker, but statistics show that the number of people getting them is on the rise. If you are diagnosed with a slow heart beat - also known as bradycardia - you may need a pacemaker. Remember, an estimated 50 to 75 percent of people with a pacemaker may need to undergo an MRI scan at some point of their lives, so a pacemaker that is MRI compatible may be a wise choice. Boomers can make a difference when it comes to heart health by taking a proactive role in working closely with their doctor and asking the right questions.

How Well Do You Know the Flu?

(BPT) - About half of US adults incorrectly believe that antibiotics or flu vaccines will treat the flu, according to a new survey from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID). The good news is that two-thirds of those surveyed know that people should be vaccinated against the flu each year. “It is reassuring that individuals recognize the importance of receiving an annual vaccination but that’s not enough,” says Dr. Susan J. Rehm, NFID medical director. “To help keep influenza out of homes, schools, and workplaces, everyone six months and older should get vaccinated and contact their doctor when experiencing flu symptoms. Remember Flu F.A.C.T.S.: Fever, Aches, Chills, Tiredness, and Sudden onset, to help determine if your symptoms are flu related.” According to the CDC, the most important step in protecting against the flu is getting an annual flu vaccine. Also, when viruses are circulating, everyday preventative actions (like washing your hands and covering your cough) can stop the spread of viruses. Once you are 28 everythinglake.com

infected with the flu virus, vaccination and hand washing will not stop the virus from replicating. Antibiotics won’t help either, as they fight against bacterial infections. If you get the flu, a doctor can prescribe medicines to help treat the flu. Flu spreads quickly and easily from one person to the next. Anyone can become sick and experience serious complications. Watch “Freddie the Flu Detective” identify flu symptoms in a new public service announcement from NFID. Protect yourself this flu season, get vaccinated.
