The Jones Engineering Sustainability Newseltter

Introduction Welcome to the inaugural edition of our monthly ESG newsletter. Each month, we’ll dive into different aspects of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives, sharing how we are making a difference and ways you can join in, both at work and in your personal lives.

February’s T heme This Months Theme – An introduction to Responsible Business at Jones Engineering. As a company that is deeply committed to making positive impact, we are embracing ESG principles to guide our operations and decision making. Our ambition is to ensure we conduct business in a responsible manner and to create value for all our stakeholders including our clients and business partners, our employees, our planet, those working within our supply chain and the communities in which we live and work. While we recognise that sustainability is a journey, we have established a responsible business framework to manage both our environmental and social impact. Our framework is divided into four pillars with key themes under each. We have aligned our responsible business framework to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), and while we understand that we have an influence across all 17 goals, we have selected 7 main goals that we believe we can have the greatest impact and influence. In early 2023 we set up teams under each Pillar and thanks to their commitment and hard work we have a number of projects already off the ground and reached a few significant milestones.

2023 Milestones & Highlights Submitted our Near Term 2032 decarbonization target to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – we hope to receive verification for this target in late 2024. The SBTi is a non-profit agency who ensures your decarbonization pathway is in line with keeping global warming to or below 1.5 degrees. We received the Diversity & Inclusion Bronze award

Began implementing Responsible Sourcing practices. We are incorporating the consideration of social and environmental impacts into our procurement processes and engaging with our suppliers through workshops and questionnaires.

Disclosed our environmental data through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). CDP is the gold standard for corporate environmental reporting. We expect to receive our score later this month.

In August 2023 we launched our first Responsible Business Report which publicly discloses our ESG data and programs.

Submitted our ESG data to EcoVadis, a sustainability scoring and benchmarking platform receiving a score of 47. Our aim for 2024 is to increase our score by at least 27% bringing us to a score of 60. EcoVadis looks at both environmental and social business practices.

We held our first Cleanup volunteering day. 60 employees across 3 sites dedicated a total of 120 hours to collect over 187kg of rubbish along Irish Waterways.

2024 Focus Area We are excited to embark on this new year and new journey together and have already begun taking significant steps: •

Resourcing for success: We are soon to have a full time Head of Sustainability join the team.

Developing and launching a comprehensive sustainability strategy focused on decarbonization of our Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions, reducing waste, responsible sourcing, and resource efficiency.

Establishing a community outreach strategy that aligns with our values and the UN SDG’s.

Strengthening our corporate governance practices to ensure accountability and transparency across our operations.

What is the monthly newsletter? Through the monthly newsletter we will cover topics such as biodiversity, carbon emissions, waste management, water, wellbeing, and much more. The purpose is to raise awareness of what Jones Engineering is doing within this topic and how you can get involved. We will share facts, figures and knowledge, and from time-to-time host team or individual challenges. Of course, there will be prizes for the winning person or team.
