TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE In October we hosted many successful events to mark Construction Safety Month, but one that was particularly well received was our mental health seminar with none other than Rory’s Stories!
It was a day of learning, compassion, and understanding. In a world where it’s so important to talk openly about mental health, the seminar was a beacon of goodwill, hope and support.
Rory O’Connor is a comedian, author and mental health advocate who shares his stories online and on a live stage somewhere near you, even as far afield as the US and Australia! Passionate about helping people, Rory talks about his personal journey and struggles with mental health to thousands of people hoping to uplift, inspire and bring positive change.
There are so many resources available now including Organisations such as: Pieta (www.pieta.ie), Mental Health Ireland (www.mentalhealthireland.ie), Lighthouse Club Ireland - Construction Industry Charity (www. lighthouseclub.org) and of course our very own Toolbox Talks.
He also works with companies, organisations and schools throughout the country to help create a shift in the conversation around mental health in Ireland.
Let’s continue this important conversation, support one another, and break the stigma surrounding mental health. Together, we can surely make a difference.
At the Seminar during Construction Safety Month, Rory shared some of his insights, personal experiences, and strategies for coping with life’s challenges. Jones Engineering Output | Christmas 2023
WORLD SKILLS & HIGHER OPTIONS This year Worldskills Ireland & Higher Options convened side-byside in the RDS in September - we were super proud to support both events. Our team happily chatted with young people providing information on our apprenticeships and graduateship programmes. At Worldskills Ireland a special guest from Leinster House visited our stand! Patrick Gill, our Laser Scan Manager, showed Minister Simon Harris TD our newest investment, Navvis VLX3 Mobile Mapping System. It is a first-ofits-kind wearable device which enables operators to comfortably scan at the speed of walking.
L-R: Pat Gill (Geo-Surveying Division) showing Minister (Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science of Ireland) Simon Harris TD our newest investment.

Two of our apprentices were also on hand to demonstrate their skills over the course of the 3 days and the systems that they built were installed for a social housing bathroom upgrade for Peter McVerry Trust in Dublin. At Jones Engineering, we have a proud history of training, advancement and career progression. As part of our graduate and apprenticeship programmes, candidates go on to play a pivotal role in our project development and we encourage them to be the best in their chosen fields.
NAOMH ALEE GAA We are delighted to return as sponsors of Naomh Alee Riyadh Gaa, the longest established GAA Club in the Middle East, in a season which marks the club’s 30th Jubilee. The launch for sponsors took place in Croke Park which we attended along with some special GAA guests including Uachtaran CLG Dr Larry McCarthy.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS We hosted a delightful pastry morning across our offices on October 27 to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We stood together sporting various shades of pink to create support and awareness for breast cancer. Our incredible staff donned pink t-shirts showing allegiance with those fighting this battle.

In the heart of picturesque Killarney on Friday 13th October, the spotlight fell upon exceptional achievements in the realm of safety. The occasion was the Annual National Irish Safety Organisation Awards, a prestigious event that recognises and celebrates organisations dedicated to upholding unparalleled safety standards. Among the distinguished participants, we, as a team, emerged as a beacon of excellence, leaving an indelible mark on the event and the industry at large.
It is with immense pride that we announce our remarkable victory at the awards ceremony. The coveted first place was ours, and with it came the highly esteemed All Ireland Supreme Award.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is not just a campaign; it’s a reminder to stay vigilant about our health, to support one another, and to cherish life’s little moments. Let’s keep the awareness alive, not just in October, but throughout the year.
We are a family, nobody fights alone
But that’s not all. We were also honoured with the Excellence in Safety Award, a testament to our consistent efforts in maintaining the highest safety standards for over 15 years. As part of our comprehensive submission, we were thrilled to share The Occupational Health Award with the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin. We’d like to express our gratitude to our employees, stakeholders, and partners. Your support and dedication have played a pivotal role in our success story.

WATERWAYS CLEANUP INITIATIVE In a powerful display of environmental responsibility and community spirit, 60 dedicated employees from our company recently volunteered their time and effort to participate in a cleanup initiative that targeted three major water bodies in Ireland. Sandymount Beach in Dublin, the Royal Canal in Kildare, and Gobby Beach in Ringaskiddy Cork were the focus of this impactful endeavour. Together, the teams managed to pull an astonishing 187kg of rubbish from these areas, contributing significantly to the ongoing battle against plastic pollution in our waterways.
JERSEY DAY In October, we proudly showed our support for GOAL by donning jerseys representing unity and teamwork. We celebrated our favourite sports teams and the goals we set and conquer every day. Whether it’s a personal milestone, a career aspiration, or a fitness target, we wore our jerseys with pride.
October saw us partner with Macmillan Cancer Support, where we stirred up some magic at our main event on project LON1 in Slough, and sprinkled the joy across our offices in Ireland with mini mornings too! Together, we raised £1,799 and the company kindly agreed to match it! Jones Engineering Output | Christmas 2023
THE O’CONNORS ABROAD
Dog sledding in the Arctic Circle
Camping along the Norwedian fjords
On September 14, 2019, my wife Sinead, our two young sons Ben and Sam, and I left Dublin Airport and arrived in Lund, a bustling university town in southern Sweden. For three of those years we lived north of Stockholm, immersing ourselves in Nordic traditions and culture. We have also travelled the length and breadth of the country. Our sons attend local schools and joined the local football, ice hockey and innebandy (floorball) clubs, mastering the Swedish language in just a few months. During the summers, we have been camping and fishing in the picturesque woodlands of Sweden and along the banks of the Norwegian fjords, while winter barbecuing became a magical family tradition. We have been on treetop safaris, explored medieval islands, and recently visited Legoland in Denmark.

Visiting a Sami Heritage Park
Mountain biking in the Swedish Forests
Searching for the Northern Lights
Our travels took us to many parts of Sweden, where we experienced dog-sledding on frozen lakes, ate reindeer stew under the Northern Lights, and had many other memorable experiences. We are now back in southern Sweden, ready to start the next chapter. Our time in Sweden has been amazing and we continue to share and celebrate our Nordic experiences together. It’s a great opportunity for any family with an appetite for adventure!

EMPLOYEE
JENNY GREENWAY LOCAT ION: DUBAI How long are you working with Jones Engineering? Only since September 2023, so I am still quite new to the business. What is your current job title? I’m a Marketing Executive, working mainly in the Middle East from the Dubai office. What is the best advice you ever received? Learn from everyone because everyone you engage with at work will know something you don’t. Try and learn as much from people across the different business areas as you can. And to be kind, that’s more general advice and not just in your career.
14
Tell me something about you that most people don’t know. My third (and final) child, Xander, was delivered in Kings College, Dubai, by Irish film star, Jamie Dornan’s step mum. Dr Samina Dornan is head of the maternal medicine department at King’s College Hospital and she’s a real character so that’s going to be my son’s claim to fame. What is the most memorable Christmas gift you’ve ever received? An “A La Carte Kitchen” when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I always remember that the girl on the box was cooking beans so I would spend ages waiting for my beans to cook. I loved that toy.
In your opinion, what Christmas movie is the best? “The Snowman” always brings back memories of Christmas for me from when I was younger. I’m now watching it with my own children, which makes me feel very old but seeing it again through their eyes is magical. What is your favourite Christmas food and why? Pigs in blankets, and from living in the Middle East for almost 10 years, you have to hunt around for these.
SPOTLIGHT DAMIEN CAHALANE LOCAT ION: CORK
How long are you working with Jones Engineering? It has been just 6 months. What is your current job title? I am currently an Electrical & Instrumentation Apprentice. What is the best advice you ever received? Learning to work well with a team is something that will serve you well.
Tell me something about you that most people don’t know. I am also studying Automation and Robotics in MTU Cork in the evenings. If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be? I would love to tour around South Africa. In your opinion, what Christmas movie is the best? Elf. Will Ferrell!
What is the most memorable Christmas gift you’ve ever received? Santa brought me a Playstation 1 back in the day. I think it was confiscated not too long after for too much use! What is your favourite Christmas food and why? My grandmother makes a potato stuffing to go with the dinner, no words...
