Fun ways to ride a bicycle Gertrud Kõima
Petrik Jurs was born in 1988 in a small town in Estonia. We can say that he is very adventurous, because he started cycling almost at the same time as walking. Petrik didn’t want to cycle with a small bicycle so he borrowed his older sister’s bicycle. It was really big and he fell a lot but it didn’t matter even when his knees and elbows were little bit broken. Finally when he learned cycling, the joy he got was indescribable. And that's how it all started. Cycling with just a usual bicycle wasn’t that cool anymore, so when a 14 years old boy saw a tv-show for youngsters where they presented Trial, he wanted to try this. After trying this by himself, he realized that it isn’t that simple. Pretty soon friends were also interested about it and they started to practice together. With couple of weeks they learned some basic tricks. When you want to do Trial then you will need a bicycle that isn´t heavy, it has to be lightweight. But explaining that to parents was hard, because they thought it is only wrecking the bicycle. So Petrik and his friends found another way, they bought an ordinary bicycle frame. They built their own bicycles. This bicycle wasn’t actually light it was like a tank, but better than nothing and at least the geometry was right. Trial isn’t very popular and known sport so achievements with Trial aren’t many. But for him the best one is 1st place for Tartu Extreme battle. Trial is quite enthralling sport to look, because audience is involved, like the rider can jump over them when somebody lie on their back and that’s why shows are really popular. Petrik was also doing these shows in Estonia and also abroad. He really liked when people were cheering, because it made him do more risky tricks and see where is his or the audience's fear limit.
Knowing that Petrik is a kind of person who loves to do extreme things he started with Downhill 5 years ago. First time he tried this he knew that this is for him because of the speed, jumps and tree branches touching elbows, this adrenaline what came with it was so overwhelming. Quoting Petrik “Love from first sight". In Downhill there are more competitions than for Trial. Even in Estonia they have their own Estonian Championships. Petrik is very proud that he has been 3 times winner of the Estonian Championships. Also he has attended competitions in Finland and has been ranked 1st, but usually he is at least in TOP10. In 2012 he was representing Estonia in World Championships and for him it was new and interesting experience. He did not rank high but for the first time it was good enough and now he knows where he wants to reach. Maybe in 2014 he will go to Norway for World Championships. Downhill isn´t very easy, if you want to be at least in TOP10. You really need to work for it. You can say that downhill is like a 100-meter-run, a marathon and chess all together. Because you are fighting with the clock, what doesn't stop until you cross the finish line and time should be as small as possible. In another words you have to ride fast and take risks. Usually you have less than one second to think about it and with one wrong call you can hit a tree and you are out of the competition. For example you can find yourself between trees, leg around your neck and in big pain. So you need to be in a good physical shape and your mind needs to be clear. These things you can have only with training. It is better to ride on big hills (mountains) and with two people because of the possibility of accidents. Sadly in Estonia there are no hills, so riders need to go abroad at least couple of times a year. For Petrik the best places are Leogang in Austria and Are in Sweden.
Downhill's equipment is not cheap , so he needs sponsors. It isn´t easy to find who would like to pay for the bicycle and all the costs that go with it. Considering the world's economy then everybody is looking only riders who have a lot of talent (potential) and the opportunity to do Downhill as their work and give 100% or more. Petrik was lucky because he got his bicycle for a very low price and also the equipment is from Fox. In another word the biggest costs are covered. As he works in a bicycle store, he can make the maintenance himself. Sponsors want that their company is well seen and the riders are advertising them. It is like hand washes hand. They will support you financially and you have to give them promotion. Having sponsors is like an extra job for riders. In Estonia Downhill isn't that popular because there aren't any mountains. Even though in Estonia there are about 100 active riders. In Finland the situation is better and it is more popular. Trial and Downhill are very different and only thing that is the same is that you can do it with a bicycle. The biggest difference is speed. In Downhill you need to be fast, but in Trial you have to do the course as clean as possible (not touch the ground). Also the bicycles which are used, are different. In Trial your bicycle has to be light and only with one gear. Downhill's bicycle has lot of stuff, many gears, suspensions and the frame has to be strong to deal with hits. Petrik says that Downhill bicycle is like motocross-bike but the engine is a person. In conclusion when Petrik in some point will not be able to ride anymore he would find something else extreme. Hopefully nothing will happen and he can ride until he is old and wrinkled. He will be an adrenaline addict forever.
TEXT MESSAGES This is mostly for the girls out there who are emotional and like to act on the heat of the moment. Next time you are angry with your boyfriend and you reach for your phone to text him an angry message, don’t do it. It will do more damage than you can imagine. You boyfriend does something irritating. For example he will cancel dinner plans 20 minutes before the date. Of course you are mad at him. You would like to send him a text message and explain that you are really angry but this is not a good idea to do. If you want to keep your relationship strong don’t do it. Resist the temtation. Face to face If you have something to say, do it face to face. If you send a text message you will give away three times less information than face to face talking. You cannot see the facial expression of the person who sends the message nor the person who gets the message. You cannot hear the persons voice tone, you cannot see the body language. By all that the text message could be misunderstood and may cause a lot of problems. Tell your feeling to the other person face to face. That way you can see the reaction and sense the voice tone of the other person. Communicating face to face prevents big misunderstood fights. Lost in the translation While writing text message the brain is working logically but when you talk to the person face to face it is more emotional. When you write romantic text message to your other half, to them it seems just a text with no romantic emotion. Personally for me it doesn’t reply with angry messages. They always seem little harsh and thats why you shouldn’t send them. With this kind of way the negative conclusion is easy to grow. Even when you are reading the message carefully the brain still catches only few words and fills the links by itself. Avoid those conclusions and don’t send those messages. Send him a polite text message So how should you react without making things worse? In the case of cancelled dinner plans instead of sending him an angry message, send him an easy message like : „Hey, when can I see you?“ Don’t let him get the hint that you are angry. The best you can do is that you can send a signalt that you want to see him. Even when you have send the angry message, delete it right away. Yes, it wont’t erease the argument from the memory but it helps not to make things worse.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL Halid Ceylan
GAMEPLAY The main leagues that play American football (usually just referred to as "football" in America) are the professional National Football League, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, which plays college football. In the National Football League, players are paid millions of dollars. In the National Collegiate Athletic Association, players simply play for the pride of their school, or for the chance to join a team to play for millions of dollars. Over a million boys (and a small number of girls) play high school football, also for school pride. There is also a closely related sport called Canadian football. A football game is played with a ball called a football. The sport is played on a grass (or artificial turf) field, exactly 360 feet (120 yards) long and 160 feet (53⅓ yards) wide. The end zones, one at each end of the field, are 10 yards long. The players wear protective equipment, including a helmet with facemask, shoulder pads, thigh pads, and often a mouth guard. A team has four chances, or "downs", to advance the ball 10 yards while the opposing team tries to stop it. Certain players advance the ball by carrying or throwing it. Teams can score by advancing the ball to the other team's end zone or by kicking the ball through a goalpost placed at the back of the end zone. American football is carefully regulated by time and rules, which are enforced by officials, who also determine when a team scores. A college or professional football game is 60 minutes long, and is divided into 15-minute quarters. In high schools, the quarters are 12 minutes long, and games for younger children are often shorter still. After the first two quarters, the teams rest for a few minutes during halftime. In NFL football, if the game is tied after the four quarters, the two teams compete in at least one more 15-minute period called overtime. During overtime, the first team to score points is usually the winner. However, under the current rules, first used for the 2011 postseason, if the team that has the ball first ends its possession by scoring a field goal, the other team gets a chance to score. If that team does not score, or if it scores a touchdown, the game ends. If it scores a field goal, the game continues, and the next team to score wins. During the regular season, only one overtime period is played—if neither team scores, or if both teams score field goals when they first have the ball, the game ends in a tie. During the playoffs, the game will continue with as many overtime periods as needed to decide a winner. If the game is tied after each team has had the ball once in overtime, the first team to score wins.
FIELD American football is played on a field 120 yards long by 53⅓ yards wide. Most of the game is played on 100 yards in the middle. It is divided by 20 lines drawing every 5 yards. The field has two other sets of markings, running between the two end zones along the length of the field, known as "hashmarks". All plays must start between the hashmarks—if the last play ended outside the hashmarks, the ball is moved to the nearest hashmark. At the ends of the field there are scoring areas, called the end zones. There are also two yellow poles on the end of each field called uprights. Sometimes, if the team can not score a touchdown they might want to kick it though the uprights for three points. The uprights are also used for scoring one point after a team scored a touchdown. PLAYERS There are many types of players on a football team. For the offensive part of the team, aquarterback throws the football to wide receivers while offensive linemen block to protect him from defensive players. The offensive linemen also block when a running back runs to advance the football. Players on the Defensive line, a linebacker, and defensive backs (cornerbacks andAmerican football safeties) attempt to tackle the offensive player who carries the football. Some team members only play during certain times. These players belong to the Special Teams. The kicker can kick the ball to the other team or between the uprights, while the placeholder holds the ball steady. The kick returner runs the ball down the field in an attempt to score points after catching the ball.
On A Unique Way Paulo Ganilho da Luz 1. Each way will end somewhere and at each location different ways are included. 2. Paths doesn't always cross beteen but . sometimes they do intersect in the same place. 3. The walk of life, everyone has their needs, goals unfulfilled, own limitations and conditioning factors. That's the reason why there are also pathways that intersect but will not end in the same location. Regarding this fact, I must confess I am a lucky person and this is a kind of luck that should be shared with those who are dear to me and welcomed me so well, at Kocani. As a newcomer volunteer under the EVS program, I was welcomed by the association Pavel Satev and I’m currently working - among other tasks - with the Mobilnost public. Both myself and my partnership Maria came from Portugal seeking new opportunities from which we could give our best contribution to the neediest local community, and we are working now on their self-esteem, their motor skills and development of competencies. After first diagnosis, we realize there is a great difficulty for the population, in relation to mobility and access in public spaces. In this way we decided to approach this subject with the purpose to make people aware of the difficulties faced by patients every day, by an ecological way. Using reusable materials including old cables and other electronics components, pieces of wood and cardboard boxes, we are building a scale model that represents two distinct realities: the first devoted to spaces with access for persons with reduced mobility and the other one, the opposite. The greatest thing about it is that, with this project, was possible to involve not only the population of Mobilnost, but also other local and EVS's volunteers. Our responsible Blagoj - helped us to contact with local institutions making the participation of three students from Gosho Vikentiev High School possible. They are being responsible to contribute to the implementation of an electric circuit in maquette. We hope that with the presentation of this initiative we will contribute together to open minds as well as to a new path and recognition for the people with reduced mobility at Kocani.
