NEW HORIZONS IN HUMAN RIGHT EDUCATION
Tirana, Albania,22.06.2014-29.06.2014
So, a week ago Filip, Aleksandar and I got back from a training course in Tirana, Albania. It’s topic was “New Horizons in Human Rights Education” and I have to admit that I went there knowing absolutely nothing about training courses or Human Rights for that matter. It lasted for seven days and on the first we had “Get to know” games.. From the next day on, till the last we got up every morning at 8 h, ate our breakfast, and at 10h the educative part started. We worked usually until 20h in the evening but there were also times when we had to finish working after diner at 22h. I don’t think anybody minded. Instead everyone was actually very pleased to work and learn. The course was based on non-formal education of course, design in a way to make it educational yet interesting. We had 3 trainers which was actually really good because it kept things amusing. 4
. Two of them were from Albania and one from Poland but working as a university professor in London. Each of them had a lot of experiences in different fields of work with young people, disabled people and children, and probably the best part of it was the fact that they shared their experiences with us. Also, most of the participants in the course were more than familiar with training courses and Youth in action programs so it seemed like everyone had something to share with the others and contribute for the benefit of the group. Actually a few of them had worked as trainers in the past so I consider myself lucky to have participated in such group. The subject of the training course was fully covered with various kinds of lectures and workshops. We also learned a lot about the new ERASMUS + Programme and all the possibilities it offers, like Youth exchange, EVS, Student exchange etc. We were told and showed how exactly to use the new Compass Manual for Human Rights in our future work and projects and we visited a local NGO that worked with Roma community. So not only we saw how our hosting organization “Hope and Love works, but also we were a witness of the wonderful work done by the local NGO. 5
I am very grateful to Filip and Aleksandar for being there to answer every question of mine as they are both more experienced in training courses than me. I think we made a very good Macedonian team. I personally, best liked the kind of workshops that put you in a role. As we used to say- they put you in “somebody else’s shoes”. I think those kind of exercises had the most impact on every single one of us and it really made us think about Human Rights. It changed my point of view and I believe everyone’s point of view too. The way I see things from my perspective are much different than reality and that makes me wonder why I have never taken Human Rights more seriously. From now on I’m all about fighting for Human Rights! And last but not least I enjoyed the energizers immensely. They were always there to wake us up when we were sleepy. All in all I am more than satisfied with this Training course and I have to say a big THANK YOU to “Pavel Shatev” organization for giving me this wonderful opportunity. I hope there’ll be more to come. 6
Free time activities Here is a short follow up of what they did during those 7 days in their spare time. The first day was the day most of the participants had arrived to the hostel we were accommodated. There was only a short, formal session in which we got acquainted between each other and we were informed about the working schedule. After the meeting we continued to get to know each other and the city of Tirana. We even went out to watch a football match in the city center. The second day was the first official working day of the training course. But it wasn’t as scary as it sounds. After we finished with all the workshops and with the NGO fair which was organized that night, we, all the participants, went out again to watch a football match in the coffee shops nearby and again, we took the opportunity to get to know each other better and better.
7
The third day (or night), we had the Intercultural Evening. Participants from all the countries that were present had an opportunity to present their country thorough national foods and drinks. We represented Macedonia with some smoki, grisini, some cookies and the inevitable rakia. After the short presentations, everybody jumped on the delicious food but more importantly on the also “delicious” drinks and in about 2 hours when the IE officially ended, we decided it was to soon to end the night and most of us went to see what Tirana’s night clubs had to offer. It turned out they have to offer some good latin-dancing places! On the fourth, sunny and hot day we had a free afternoon which the Macedonian team used to visit Durres, to cool off and have some fun on it’s beaches. Because of all the fun we had during that free afternoon, most of the participants were very tired that night, so we stayed in the hostel and got some rest. Nobody realized how tired we were until the night of the fifth day, when nobody wanted to go out. We all stayed in the hostel and talked about our impression from the course so far and how much our expectations were met until that point in time. 8
Naturally, because we didn’t go out the night before, the evening of the sixth day everybody was full with energy and ready to party. We went to a part of Tirana which is named Block, a place were all the best clubs are located and to keep the spirit from the nights before, we again went latin-dancing in a club with a sweet name, Caramel. Because we liked it very much, some of us even went there back again on the 7-th, last night, but we hadn’t as much fun as the night before. We were sad because we all knew in a few hours we’ll be saying goodbye and hopping we’ll have another chance to say “Hi” to each other, but we were also happy of the time we spent and all the memories we made together.

- For getting better picture of the atmosphere from the TC, we decided to ask some part of the participant’s for their opinion on our questions. We chose these questions because we consider that answering this question you can get better perception of what really means one TC. Our short interview we will start with Sonia from Romania. She is young girl that grab all the opportunities that give the program Youth in action. Participating in many TC and Youth exchanges we ask her, what was the main reason to participate in this TC. She answered that the main reasons for participating in this TC are tied to improving her knowledge on Human Rights and getting better acquaintance with non-formal education techniques in this field. So we were curious does her expectation were realized. So, the answer we get was so obvious and it is that her expectations were fully met on the educational/instructional part. Information was well structured and delivered in a very understanding way. For the end we ask her which skills you improve during the TC and which knowledge you will implement in your society and she said that she have acquired some public speaking skills, some facilitating skills and a lot of know-how in the HR field. 10
She will most certainly cherish these skills and try to pass them over to others interested in the area, but on a more down to business level, she will exploit the knowledge and skills acquired in her career-to-be, as a trainer. Our conversation continues with Marlyn from Estonia. We all had a great time with the Estonian national food and drink for the cultural evening so we were expecting for the information’s about her point of view for this TC. Like the previous conversation we start this also with the same question about the main reason for participating in this TC so the answer is not so different from the first one and is the desire to get more information about Human Right so her expectations were fulfilled. She also said that learned a lot of new exercises, games and got a lot of thoughts and ideas. About the skills and the implementing the knowledge she answer that during this course she had great English speaking experience, lot of new English words, she got lot of courage to make presentations and she also had good teamwork experience. She wish she can be somehow useful for my society, because she have now the basic knowledge’s about HR. Maybe she can implement some activities in her Estonian NGO. 11
Third person is Eliona, participant form the Albanian host organization. The schedule of the question will be the same, so: - What was your main reason to participate in this TC? The main reason for participating in this TC was for personal reason, because I was volunteering in the host organization working on this topic. - Does your expectation were realized? Of course. They were realized because I want to know more about culture, to see how people are discussing with each-other about same object about seeing different opinions and ideas. Also to be more sociable, to know different cultures and also to learn from them, also I want to improve my skills in communicating on English and everything of this was fully completed. - Which skills you improve during the TC and which knowledge you will implement in your society? I will implement, of course, my knowledge for the HR in the projects of my NGO. Also, I will try to implement those information’s in my daily life, starting from my family, friends and relatives. 12
Gabriel, from Turkey had the opportunity to speak too, so we ask him the same. - What was your main reason to participate in this TC? It was my first TC so I wanted to learn how this TC or projects were and how people were getting together etc. After that reason, I also wanted to know more about what are my rights like human, and does my rights are respected in the area that I live. - Which skills you improve during the TC and which knowledge you will implement in your society? I’ve improved my group work, listening and discussing and all the things I wrote will be used in the next time.

Not to afraid to be free It was 4:30 a.m., for less than four hours, she supposed to have first classes at the new university, it was raining and she was angry at her neighbors, with whom she had come home, and who followed home with the girls who they met at the club. She didn’t want to be dependent from anyone anymore so she decided to go home by herself. But the thing was that she was new here, alone in this strange city in foreign country. She caught first encountered boy and asked him about a bus to home. - The first goes around 6 in the morning, you have almost 2 hours - he told. -Great!- She thought, then he suggested coffee. When she already condemned this evening to lose, thinking that first evening in the giant city is going to be a disaster, everything changed. That night there was no time to sleep, the stranger took her on a night tour of this amazing city, which she fell in love with. 18
Probably like the most of people who have heard the story comes to your mind this thought -was she lost her mind, to go with a random guy, for tour by car, in the middle of the night?! - Probably she had more luck than intellect. I guess that’s how friendships are starting, sometimes you have to take a risk, to trust someone completely, with no basis to strust him, believing that it will be this good one. Also, thats how the beginnings of the adventures looks like, that make life so colorful. Travels, gives us the stories, which we are telling about during meetings with family and friends, they are the best form of learning about life, the world, thanks to them we get to know those precious people, who sometimes just stopped in our path for a moment, often bring so much, that only when they appear you realize how poor your l live would be without them. When after the 30 hour of journey I finally reached the Kocani I had absolutely no idea about this city, the people, the life here. I learned everything from the beginning. Here I am in a completely different reality than the one I know from everyday life. 19
I still do not know everything, I probably know even less than I think, but if someone wants to get away from the hustle and bustle, the high rate of life that takes place in bigger cities, I would recommend just this Macedonian town as a holiday destination. From the very beginning I was fascinated by landscapes, those beauty even pictures can not describe properly, then people - polite, quiet, open to the stranger from Polish. I will have a few weeks here and can not wait, for those things which I will meet, those which i will learn, and places which i want to see. Travelling is a kind of disease, I think that those who have fallen on it knows what I’m writing about, this feeling of eternal desire to get know new places. When I’m out on the home, of course, I miss it, but when I’m at home i am still thinking about the next target. It is incurable, but fortune is not dangerous, though it may sound a bit weird, but for those who wants new experiences I recommend to get infected. 20
The best thing is that it’s not hard, you just have to move, just go, anywhere, and you’ll see what an exciting feeling it is, to be in a strange place, that after a time which u will spent somewhere, you begin to recognize as your one of many, places on the Earth. There’s a quote, I do not know who wrote “You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than they place”. I can not agree more, Kocani will be the next place where i will leave part of my heart?

Game of Thrones Review Game of thrones is one of the most exciting series for me, when i’m starting watch this i just can’t stop. Do you know this feeling? If you watched this I’m sure you are. I just finished first season and after this i have no ide how can it ends, this is quite surprising in these days when most of series and movies are so predictable. It is a large investment made in different countries, so developers take us to a world full of different landscapes. Fast action, unusual dialogues and constant uncertainty, which are provided by development of action bring tension, which does not allow the viewer to get bored even for a moment. Series is filled with a variety of characters, that sometimes is a little bit confused, who is who, and what exactly is his role in the series? Better not to ask the question who is good who is bad, because rarely we just cannot say. 22
This is one of the many advantage of this production, the characters can be love or hate, although sooner or later, most of them die in the least expected time, so you better not get attached to any of them, because there is no certainty how long we will be able to watch it yet in the series. The main plot concerns the struggle between two royal families Starks and Lannisters, who wants rule the country. There is also many of side plots where characters are struggle with fight for family, freedom, love, friendship. Each episode lasts about an hour, the fact that it is not so easy to break away from it, sometimes it absorbs even one day, but it is never lost time for me. If you have not watched the series yet, do it, and then you will know what I’m writing about.

Metallica It’s the sort of story that scriptwriters would get laughed out of conference rooms for proposing. The sort of story that illustrates perfect synchronicity between hunger, passion and time. The sort of story that only happens every 30-odd years. And the sort of story that would need approximately 500 pages to do it true justice. Metallica. A household name. The 7th biggest selling act in American history. Who’d have thought it when, on October 28th, 1981, drummer Lars Ulrich made guitar player/singer James Hetfield an offer he couldn’t refuse: “I’ve got a track saved for my band on Brian Slagel’s new Metal Blade label.” The truth is, Lars didn’t have a band at that time, but he did that day when James joined him. The two recorded their first track on a cheap recorder with James performing singing duties, rhythm guitar duties and bass guitar duties. Lars dutifully pounded the drums, helped with musical arrangements and acted as manager 26
Hetfield’s friend and housemate Ron McGovney was eventually talked into taking up bass and Dave Mustaine took lead guitar duties. The band adopted the moniker Metallica after a suggestion from Bay Area friend Ron Quintana, and they quickly began gigging in the Los Angeles area opening for bands like Saxon. Eventually recording a fully-fledged demo called No Life ‘Til Leather, Metallica quickly saw the tape whistle around the metal tape-trading underground and become a hot commodity, with San Francisco and New York particularly receptive. Metallica performed two shows in San Francisco and found the crowds friendlier and more honest than LA’s “there to be seen” mob. They also caught up-and-coming band Trauma, and most importantly their bass player, Cliff Burton. Cliff refused to move to Southern California: it was enough to convince Metallica to relocate to the Bay Area, and Cliff subsequently joined Metallica. In New York, a copy of No Life ‘Til Leather made its way to Jon Zazula’s record shop, the aptly named Metal Heaven. 27
Zazula quickly recruited Metallica to come out east to play some shows and record an album. The band made it to New York in a stolen U-Haul. Dave Mustaine, at that point the band’s guitarist, was proving to be more problematic than even these loose young chaps could handle. Thus a few weeks after arrival, Mustaine was sent packing, roadie Mark Whitakker suggesting Kirk Hammett from Bay Area thrashers Exodus. Two phone calls and one flight later, on April 1, 1983 Kirk Hammett joined Metallica. Metallica’s first album, Kill ‘Em All, was released in late 1983 and there was some ferocious touring which saw the band’s reputation soar both in the US and Europe. The album itself was wonderfully unlike anything; a fusion of the crunchiest metal with the grating riffery of punk attitude, tracks such as “Phantom Lord”, “Metal Militia” and “The Four Horsemen” were instant classics. In 1984 they went to work with producer Flemming Rassmussen in Copenhagen at Sweet Silence Studios on their second album
28
Ride the Lightning proved that Metallica were not some thrash-in-the-pan one trick pony, the writing and sound illustrating a growth, maturity and intensity, typified by classic compositions such “Fade To Black” and “For Whom The Bell Tolls” but without sacrificing an iota of energy and aggression, as shown on “Fight Fire With Fire”. This surefire ball of fire and brimstone was immediately targeted by major management in Q Prime, and a major label in Elektra. Metallica happily got both deals done by the fall of ‘84 and their reputation continued to grow worldwide. Returning to the same studios in 1985, the group recorded Master Of Puppets, mixing in LA with Michael Wagner and releasing in early 1986. They quickly secured a tour with Ozzy Osbourne, and that stint (plus a top 30 album chart position) saw their fan base and name take a quantum leap. What had once seemed so unlikely was now closer than ever to coming true: world domination.
