Since 1986, every 3rd weekend of September, the town of Le Puy-en-Velay city (Haute-Loire) finds his Renaissance colors for the festivals of the Renaissance King of the Birds. Through a festival of great cultural holding, the city takes the guise of an old and authentic archery contest to dive back into its glorious past. A travers une fête populaire d’une haute tenue culturelle, la cité prend prétexte d’un ancien et authentique concours d’archerie pour se replonger dans son passé glorieux. For four days, priority is given to street performances and replenishment of daily life in the sixteenth century in the Velay. Camps canvas, struggles in his canon, mercenaries out of balance, itinerant artisans, antique kitchen, pilgrims on their way to Saint Jacques de Compostela up a veritable living decor.

Camps de toile, luttes au son du canon, mercenaires en rupture de solde, artisans itinérants, cuisine d’époque, pèlerins en partance pour Saint-Jacques de Compostelle composent un véritable décor vivant. An atmosphere that “breathes” the sixteenth century Une ambiance qui « respire » le XVIe siècle Every year, a few days after the school year, the entire city and its people that come in Renaissance and offering to all who wish to join them. Whether costumes, everyday life, crafts, cooking, military camps, music and dance ... the sights and sounds of the Bird King must “breathe” the sixteenth century. Qu’il s’agisse de costumes, de la vie quotidienne, des métiers, de la cuisine, des camps militaires, de la musique et de la danse… l’ambiance visuelle et sonore du Roi de l’Oiseau doit « respirer » le XVIe siècle. Each year, Renaissance festivals of Puy-en-Velay are a real life-size history lesson for many schools. The pupils are thus likely to flow between the different sites. They take advantage of all the planned activities many of which are far more educational than it seems. Chaque année, les fêtes Renaissance du Puyen-Velay constituent une véritable leçon d’histoire grandeur nature pour de nombreuses écoles. Les écoliers sont ainsi nombreux à circuler entre les différents sites. Ils profitent de l’ensemble des animations prévues dont beaucoup sont bien plus pédagogiques qu’il n’y paraît. The calligraphy workshop, through learning about the flavors, plants, weapons, ironwork and ending with older games, diving in the Renaissance is total 3

This Month Projects

In our organization we think that happiness is the most important thing for you and those around you. To share the positive energy with the help of the French and Polish volunteers, we wrote about 300 messages of funny quotes and positive thoughts that we later gave to people ` that we met in town.

Good Thoughts

This really made some people’s day as we saw from their friendly smile and sudden change of their bad mood. I’d also like to note that these messages were written in multiple languages which would be interesting to people who study a foreign language or are just interested in how something sounds in a different language. 8


French Presentation French volunteers from the organization Pavel Satev on a 21 of April made a presentation about France and they presented in the high school Ljupco SantovKocani. The presentation was very createfull with the french alphabet.

Protection on the environment “Each Year, millions of (insert quantity--tons?) of rubbish are thrown outside, in the environment. This is having an impact on the environment and our health. A polluted environment, besides being unsightly, impacts humans, plants and animals; sometimes causing disease, illness and death. It takes a long time for trash to decompose. Because it is in our environment contact and even inhaling can be harmful. Litter is not static; people, wind and water move it around sometimes into rivers, lakes, seas and ocean. If consumed by animals it can have bad effects, if it gets on the skin it can lead to rashes and sores, if inhaled it can irritate the lungs. Especially harmful are heavy metals if discharged by factories. 10


If everyone does their part for the environment and puts trash into containers and then that trash is properly disposed of in a landfill we can preserve the beauty of the countryside for future generations and enjoy nature without being concerned about contaminents. Be kind to nature and others...put trash where it belongs.

The waste management in the sustainable development


France and Macedonia diffrences Lunch In France, eating is one of the most important things we do; we eat all the time and we like to eat good food. First, when we wake up we eat a great breakfast, after at noon there is the lunch and at 8pm the dinner. And sometimes, we eat a snack at 4pm. Of course each meal is shared with the family. Eating is a sharing time and very important. Eat eat eat all the time.

In Macedonia, we eat when we are hungry, a burger at 10am? No problem! Macedonian eat very slowly, they have time. 12


Rubbish Selective sorting, waste disposal is required. France is a clean country, people don’t throw their rubbish just anywhere. Environmental protection is a sensitive subject and most of people are aware and comply with proper waste disposal. Despite The beauty of the Macedonian countryside, Macedonians do not respect the environment. People throw their paper or plastic bottles, food wrappers, paper, broken items and other trash outside.

In France we would need two taxis for six people, but, in Macedonia, one car is enough. Six people plus the driver “This is Macedonia” he said! Later, 6 in a car without seat belts fastened, we are stopped by the police “Good morning, switch on your lights please, Good bye”, Whaaat this is Macedonia!! And it is not a hole in the road, it is a gap!!! 14


Alphabet a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h… Learning French is very difficult because the grammar is complex A, Ҕ, B, г, Д, Ѓ, Е, Ж, З We pronounce the Cyrillic alphabet as we read it; so learning to read is easy. To French people the pronunciation can be sound funny.

La Fontaine’s The Fables include some of the most famous poems, perhaps the most famous poems in the French language. Two such poems are the opening pieces in book 1, “La Cigale et la fourmi” (“The Cicada and the Ant,” often translated as “The Grasshopper and the Ant”) and “Le Corbeau et le renard” (“The Crow and the Fox”). The fame of these poems is due primarily to the fact that they have been learned by heart and recited in class by millions of schoolchildren in France and the French-speaking world. They have been fundamental to the teaching of French to children and to developing an appreciation of literature and teaching basics moral principles. The moral of this story is that we should not lose sight of its future and it is important to provide for a little bit However , it is difficult to have just that point of view, the ant is not a good worker and the cicada is not just a performer , nice and nasty! This fable also reveals points of characters that can lead us to these different points of view. The ant is working, yes, but not lending, almost selfish as to the cicada even if it is not concerned about her future.The cigada is honest and admit someone has Ant his fault, it is quite sixty’s vision, carpe diem living life day to day. 17

French Recipes to try Part 1 of 3 before you die Gratin Dauphinois

What to drink: A red wine, like a Beaujolais An authentic gratin dauphinois doesn’t have any cheese. It is just made of sliced potatoes baked in milk, or cream. The preparation is easy and the result always satisfying. Ingredients • 1 kg (2.2 pounds) potatoes, a mix of waxy and baking potatoes (if you prefer to use only one type, pick waxy potatoes, not too firm) • 500 ml (2 cups) milk (whole or part-skim, not skim; I don’t recommend using non-dairy milk as the dish turns out watery) • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt • freshly grated nutmeg • 1 clove garlic, sliced lengthwise • 3 tablespoons finely chopped chives (optional) • 60 ml (1/4 cup) heavy cream (use whipping cream in the UK and crème fraîche liquide in France) 23


Instructions 1. Peel the potatoes, rinse them briefly, and slice them thinly (about 3mm or 1/10th of an inch) and evenly. (A food processor or a mandoline come in handy at this point.) Do not rinse after slicing, or you will lose all that precious starch. 2. Combine the sliced potatoes, milk, salt and a good grating of nutmeg in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat, and keep simmering for 8 minutes, stirring the potatoes and scraping the bottom of the pan regularly to prevent sticking/scorching. The milk will gradually thicken to a creamy consistency. 3. While the potatoes are simmering, preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F) and rub the bottom and sides of a medium earthenware or glass baking dish (I use an oval dish that’s 26 cm/10 inches at its widest, and 2 liters/2 quarts in capacity) with the cut sides of the garlic clove. 24


4. Transfer half of the potatoes into the baking dish, sprinkle with the chives if using, and drizzle with half of the cream. Add the rest of the potatoes, pour the cooking milk over them, and drizzle with the remaining cream. 5. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until bubbly on the edges and nicely browned at the top. Let stand for about 10 minutes before serving.
