Introduction An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Commercial Department within the Royal Hospital Chelsea the home of the Chelsea Pensioners. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Fundraising Manager with head up the charity’s Fundraising team taking strategic responsibility for legacies, donations, donor relations and seek other ways to maximise the Royal Hospital Chelsea’s charitable income. You will manage the administration for the Friends and Corporate Friends initiatives, write funding letters, host visits and provide coherent and relevant reports for the Management Board. Working closely with the Marketing Communications Manager, you will create profile raising events along with impactful and engaging marketing collateral. Working closely with the Events Manager, you will organise fundraising events such as receptions, concerts, lectures and other relevant fundraising activities.

You will be responsible for the operation of the charity’s database; ensuring its cleanliness, effectiveness and efficiency. You will be a target driven fundraising professional with a sound knowledge of legacies, bequests and specific revenue generating charitable appeals.

Job Description The Role •
To lead and mentor the Fundraising team and ensure all members have the requisite skills to undertake their roles within the RHC Commercial Department.
•
To generate revenue for the Royal Hospital Chelsea via legacies, bequests, donations and, where relevant, specific appeals.
•
Identify and research potential funding opportunities.
•
Develop proposals for projects that could attract new funding.
•
Establish links with other voluntary and statutory bodies
•
Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to create profile-raising events.
•
Oversee the operations of the ThankQ database and, where required, provide training for department personnel.
•
Oversee charitable and taxation financial administration for the Group Finance Controller and Commercial Director.
•
The Fundraising Manager is part of a high profile team which has a very public face both externally and internally.
•
The Fundraising Manager will be required to have the necessary interpersonal skill sets to work in this environment.
Specific Tasks •
With guidance from the Commercial Director, compose and execute the annual Fundraising Plan.

Working with the Commercial Director, the Fundraising Manager will develop and execute strategies to increase revenue from legacies, bequests, donation and, where relevant, specific appeals.

Assist with the day to day financial management information and financial administration activities of the department, including the development and updating of spreadsheets, for the Appeal Charity and Friends.
Person Specification •
Able to demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and oral with excellent attention to detail.
•
Presentable.
•
People management and mentoring skills.
•
Initiative, commitment and experience in a busy dynamic department is essential.
•
Proficient in the use of IT - particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and data base experience.
•
Able and willing to use the ThankQ and Exchequer databases (or similar) effectively and efficiently.
•
Professional persona appropriate to the role.
•
Capable of decision making (within a defined scope).
•
Ideally, the post holder will have earned the Certificate of Fundraising Management.
•
Team player.
•
High integrity.
